Digital Microscope Followup

Answers to a few of your questions... Several have inquired about the digital microscope journal that I posted last night. The link below is for one that is similar to the one that my wife purchased for me but not the exact same one. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I'm on vacation and do not have the saved bookmark on our laptop. I'll post my saved link early next week. This link is for a 2.0 mega pixel versus mine which is a 1.3. Both are 20-200x and look and priced similar. Believe it

question for you toner fans

I will post a pic when I get home from work.... Question: does splotchiness automatically mean AT? One more: is it possible that a Coin be AT if it is in a respected TPG slab? I picked up a NGC ms65, 1899-O Morgan dollar. It has some very nice toning, IMO but it has some splotching which drew some red flags for me. I paid FMV for a normal ms65 1899-O Morgan which is another reason I think its AT. I will have picture up in about 2 hours from now To see old comments for this Journal ent

Digital Microscope

Easy Way to Photo Your Errors... Several weeks ago someone posted an article about a digital microscope that they planned on purchasing. After seeing the post, I added it to my Christmas Wish List and bookmarked a site where my wife could purchase one. On Christmas morning it arrived... This device has to be one of the easiest ways that I've ever seen at photographing double dies and other errors. It has around a 200x zoom and is very easy to set up and use. I've added a photo below of o

A Great 2011

And a Better 2012 Hi All, Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the wonderful holiday season. I have to say, without a doubt, interacting with you all, hearing your opinions, your triumphs, and your disappointments has made 2011 one of the most enjoyable times in all the years I have been collecting coins. I am so happy to have found the Collector's Society and all the wonderful people that inhabit the Corner. This coming year, I will continue enjoying your company while adding a

Rapidly Closing in on the End of another Year

And as always this time of year is filled with excitement, wonder and joy. I still remember how excited I got when I found and joined the Collectors Society. I was just starting my adventure into the world of graded coins. In the month leading up to my joining, I had just purchased a few graded coins, Proof State Quarters if memory serves, and I couldn't get over how awesome the thought of moving forward with this phase of my collecting would be. Two years later, I am still enthralled with col

still waiting for my X-mas present

I hope the mailman brings me something good Today is the final day the mail is running before Christmas and i really hope that he will bring my package from NGC! I hate that they mail my coins back registered mail! Im wondering if i could request other ways for them to ship back? Afterall, i am the one paying for it anyway. I could have had them ship me my coins back overnight for just a couple dollars more than what i paid for registered. I have NEVER had a package not make it using USPS

Morgan's

My look forward, as my skills progress! 2011 has been a nice collecting period for my collection. Looking back I pleased with my additions of eagles and Morgan's. I have collected 17 very nice raw Morgan's this year and just mailed them off to NGC for grading. This year I spent hours looking threw raw gems, detailing every one collectively, my collective thoughts are of what my finds bring me and test my judgement of graded returns. As I look forward to 2012 it brings excitement and progre

Merry Xmas To Me

Hit my goal!

My goal for this year was to break to 10k points in my "Nicks San Fran Cuties" Morgan dollar date set. I just added my 1880-S MS64+PL Morgan dollar to make 10,200 and change. I kind of had to cheat a little. More like, I revised the set to consist of not just San Fran Morgans. I added my 1901-P and 1899-P just to hold me over until I can afford to buy coins again. Its going to be a while. Unless I sell some. I may do that, I have a bunch that I could let go. I also have the 1893-P but that is

2012 Collecting Goals

It's almost the new year. Good afternoon, everyone! I've been thinking about what I want to accomplish in the coming year and Ive come to one constant. As my three and a half year Kennedy Half Proof saga comes to a close at the end of the month, I realize that I don't want to commit myself fully to one set in 2012, like I did this year to finish my Kennedy set. In light of that, I decided I am going to spend 2012 dabbling around in different areas of interest and not focus on "percentge co

ALOHA, HAWAII !!!

Merry Christmas To Me! I've long admired the design of the Hawaian coinage. Years ago, I purchased a book on the coinage; researched its history and pricing, but never purchased any of the denominations. They were all too expensive to indulge my cursory level of interest. Then I saw a 25 Cent piece, this week, that "called to me". I could resist no longer, and placed a bid. Tonight, IT'S MINE!! The coin is a very pretty, white coin with great luster and a strong strike. Both sides ha

2011 Review, 2012 Goals

Hope everyone had a good year. 2011 has been a good year for me, and I hope everyone else inthe Society. A few (collecting) highlights from 2011: - Found a few upgrades I had been searching for: (1) a 1947-D Jefferson in MS67 5FS. Very tough to find; only 4 exist in MS67 5FS and 2 in MS67 6FS, none better. (2) 1918-P and 1933-S Walking Libertys in MS-64, both at affordable prices in the same Heritage auction. (3) 1932 $10 Eagle in MS-63+ (4) Five 25th Anniversary Eagle s

Sometimes you just have to show up in person at the PO to find your box!

But they did find the Box! My wife and I drove 100 miles to the Sort Facility in Sandston, VA. This is where all mail from thru out the state comes to be sorted. One group of workers were zero help. O we went in the employees entrance door, a very nice gentleman with a VCU 9remember final four '78) found a supervisor. Jason spent time with us getting the details of the package and contents, remember 5 long blue boxes. We were on our way out of town and were at a motel near Richmond Airport.
