for my 20th Century Type Set
Howdy Friends,
I just received an upgrade coin for my 20th Century Type Set, a 1955 S MS67RD NGC Top Pop Lincoln Wheat cent which is the first mint state wheat cent in my collection. I started photographing it right away and put a presentation together then tried to register it. Unfortunately the coin is still registered to a prior owner so I'll have to wait a bit longer for it to show up in my set.
Some notable facts about this coin are its Top Pop condition,
Isn't it time the Mercanti Eagle was Dumped by the U.S. Mint in Favor of the A. Weinman Masterpiece or just about any other Eagle on the ASE?
While reading American Silver Eagles, 2nd Edition I came across both a wonderful section on Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar as well as a nice section on American Eagles through the years. With so many outstanding Eagles to pick from it is hard to believe the U.S. Mint can't find anything better than the Mercanti Eagle to slap on the back of the ASE
The reason for the Cameo designation may be the reverse.
Here she is!!

Ultra Cameo???
Friends,
I was offered a penny that stuck in my head for a while. A 1971 PF69* Cameo. The price was great compared to the high of a UC price but there was no pic to see what was the reason for the star on a Cameo coin. After a week or so I decided to find out just how close this PF69*C coin was to PF69UC and purchased it.
Love It!!!
Here's a pic

ADVICE PLEASE, AGAIN.
When I renewed my NGC membership, I did so by upgrading to get the 5 free submissions. I did this knowing that I would indeed have five new coins to send. They are the 2013 reverse buffalo, 2013 W silver eagle set, and a yet unopened 2012 S silver eagle set.
What to do, the buffalo looks like a 69, the 2013 enhanced obverse has a scratch like image on it, more like a piece of fuzz got in there just as the press came together, and a bag like nick on the reverse. As I
Three new babies. Boy are they cute!
In 1999, as the story goes, there were some folks at the mint who got some orders one morning to make some gold eagles. The orders were coming in faster than the mint had provided for so the boss harried the workers and they scurried around trying to fill the orders in the alloted time. In the rush, one of them reached up on the shelf containing the $5 dies and grabbed the wrong one from the 1999 pile. Seems it had a W on it. It was supposed to be used

NGC population of 9 with none graded higher
Hi everyone. Here is a awesome looking photo from Robecs Images an picture of my NGC MS68 1991 Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of 9 with none graded higher. I have got to thank Robec for pointing out the doubling from the top of Lincoln's nose to the bottom and from the bottom lip to the chin. Also some doubling of both the ones in the date and Liberty. I think this coin might also qualify for a proof like designation if re-submitt

NOT THE BEST PIC.
Well it came yesterday, and I apologize for the crappy pic. It is the best I can do. When I opened the shipping box, you could smell the leather aroma and my anticipation and excitement went off the charts. It came in a absolutely gorgeous brown wood box, with leather, dollhouse type fabric inside.
Upon opening the box, I was floored by the beauty of the coin. Stunning is a better word, again I wish I had a better camera. My photo just doesn't show the awesomeness of i
An article in this weeks Coin World, a coin I collected 35 years ago in New Caledonia, and my new custom set, The Use of Seated Imagery in Numismatics gave me an idea for a little experiment.
I normally do not advocate the cleaning of coins, but in the case of PVC residue there is little you can do for a coin to return it to its natural finish without first removing the residue. This week in Coin World, I read of a man who had cherry-picked an 1841-O, Small O, Closed Bud, Seated Liberty Dime o
A coin show and a .15 Lincoln cent
Well, here I am getting ready to use my early bird coupon 5 months later, and I am in a toss up to go for high grade cents, or variety. I literally have a handful of coins that I am inspecting with my 60x and comparing the Lincoln cents against some already graded NGC MS64 and MS65. I remember someone telling me it's all in Lincoln's ear. Well, I see that some of these 1957-1963 are nice and shiny, but the ear is worn. Bummer. So out of the handful I was a
A Change of Focus
In my coin collecting I am close to a point of calling an end to the hunt. I have put together a collection of proof coins I am very happy with. There are maybe a half dozen coins I would not mind picking up yet, however, if they do not come along, I am very happy where I am at. I am not quitting the game, however, just changing my "focus." When I first moved to Montana 41 years ago, I became hooked on photographing wildflowers and butterflies. Seems kind of foolish for
after reading Coin928 journal
I was so impressed with the presentation that coin928 shared with us in their journal I too decided to submit 5 Franklins from my winning set of Best Presented to NGC for the Deluxe Photo Proofs. I am anxiously awaiting the return of the coins with the photo proofs.

1762 Eight Reales from the Old World and New World
I have a batch of 8 reales in for grading so while I wait on the results, I thought I would journal about the one that I find the most interesting, a 1762 Spanish 8 reales from Madrid.
In the mid 1700's, the Spanish mints did not turn out many of the larger silver coins. Production of the 8 reales ended in 1736 and did not appear regularly until 1772, with the exception of the 1762 mintage. Charles III ascended to the throne near the end o
ANXIOUS
I just found out the reverse proof buffalo my wife and I ordered from the mint was shipped. We are looking forward to getting it. It looks like there will be close to 50,000 of them cuz yesterdays close was over 42K. Anyway this is a first for us so we will see. I bet it is nicer looking than all our nickels. Will pop a pic when I get it.

Looking to trade for 1971 Proof 69 Ultra Cameo Lincoln cent!
Greetings all y'all!
No longer in SC, but now in beautiful Wyoming. Been here a little over 2 years now and love it.
This month, my age will hit the half century mark, and I am still that one coin shy of completing my 1971 proof set that I still have! So, I'm back in the game of completion, and if you have that cent and would like to make my big 5-0 an extra special happy one, drop me a line and let's see if we can make a tr
Garys September Coin of the Month (Volume 3, Number 1) is a continuation of Augusts column and features an NGC AU-53 Spanish Provisional Government 1870(74) DEM, 2 Peseta (KM# 654). Last month I examined this coins link to the ancient Roman Empire. In this month's column, I intend to investigate the coins technical aspects and historical context.
The Spanish Provisional Government 2 Peseta is 27mm in diameter and weighs 10 grams. This coin has a silver fineness of .8349 and an ASW of .2684 oun

A 1910 Wheat Lincoln Penney, Class 5; Flip over...Double Strike.
One morning, over 35 years ago; I walked in to a coin store. To look around and to see if; I could find anything interesting.
After looking around, I asked the salesperson, about a lose-leaf ring book sitting on the counter; it was title FLAWS on the cover. He told me it contained coins, that had pieces missing; and to take a look at the coins within...
I look at coins, that had clips of missing from the coins, ripped metal; f
