I Was Mistaken Big Time...

Wow it really sucks to start to feel old... Greetings Collectors, In my last two posts I spoke of the New Orleans mint $10 Liberty set I have been working on for some time. For the life of me I do not remember posting the photos of the last 3-4 O-mint coins I have acquired. But I had some spare time today which for me is a pleasant change from where my life has traveled since late 2010 to early 2011. Anyway I found that I had already posted all of those coins but one that are currently sla

Peruvian Curiosity

Mint State Cantina Token I just acquired a new Latin Beauty. It is an 1873 Peruvian Cantina Token with a 20 Centavo value from Aguas Del Rimac. I really don't have much information on this token, but love it. It is appropriately graded as NGC MS63, and might be a tad bit finer. Most likely not common, at least in this condition. If any of you fine numismatists know more about this token, feel free to share your knowledge. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New

1906-O Eagle

My Latest Addiction Has Been New Orleans $10 Gold Greetings Collectors,   Over the last 18-24 months the $10 Liberty has been the focus of my collecting, along with a nice Franklin Half when a worthy one comes along. In gold I have picked up a total of seven from the New Orleans mint. I think the last time I entered a coin was a $10 Liberty, but it wasn't from N.O. but was just a couple posts ago and it was an 1905-S. I'm unsure if other collectors go on a tear with one series for a wh

made $250.00 overnight I had to run a Financial report for my insurance agent this morning and I got a huge surprise my 1986 S Jefferson nickel that had a FMV of $2500.00 is now listed at $2750.00 Now I started collecting to save for my Grand children's collage fund if I'm ever luckly enough to have any. If not they will be a good start for my son to buy a house either way my son wins so I'm hoping to complete a great collection. Happy Collecting and may God Bless...Mike To see old commen

Amercain Eagle WP set

Received my 2 coin AE set 7/3/2013 I received my American Eagle set last Wednesday and boy were they pretty the enhanced sp coin was just stunning. I sent them off the same day to NGC they both looked like 70's to me at least that's what I'm hoping for. My luck I'll get a 69 and a 70 and I'll end up buying 2 coins from the after market and sell the 69 to recoup some of my money. But with fingers crossed and a little luck I won't have to buy the 2 coins. Has anyone received theirs back fro

Should I have or shouldn't have send in my ASE WP set to NGC.

Coins arrived at NGC I was debating to send in my 2 West Point Set or not.. I sent them in then I heard of the submission from the coin cook that got 2% of his coins back as 70's. to date. I also heard that he told his audience that he brought 10 percent of the total WP ASE on sale. He is selling 1600 coins at 69. Here is hoping for 70's. and not paying an arm and a half for it. My Free Submission Coupon Almost Expired

I got them in the mail on Saturday morning and the coupon stated "postmarked by July 1st." For years I have had both a PCGS and NGC membership. I do tend to side toward NGC/Collectors Society as my preferred Chat Boards, slabber of raw coins and registry however I join both sites for 1 primary reason. With a certain level of membership a collector can actually get a submission coupon ( 5 for NGC and 8 coins for PCGS) which makes the cost of membership essentially free when the coupon value is

ID Help

Can anyone help me to identify this coin? Can anyone help me to identify this coin? It looks to be a silver commem of some kind but I can't seem to find any info about it online. The date is from 1967 and the obverse has profiles of Virgil Grissom, Edward White II, and Roger Chaffee. Has any one seem this before or have any info? Thanks! The 5c Specimen Challenge

Lost one but got the other!!! Friends, I had made a few sales in the past few weeks. Usually I get checks which is good but last week all payments were in Pay-Pal. I don't take the money out of pay pal except for purchases on the bay. As I had a small nest I started to hunt for something to add to my sets. My Proof nickel set is starting to look good with the 1989-S to date complete PF70UC except 3 coins. I'm still needing the 1991-S and the 2 specimen coins. I set out to grab the specimens

My 1st GSA Morgan CC Purchase

I haven't made a purchase for over a month but couldn't resist this coin's..... I haven't made a purchase for over a month but couldn't resist this Carson City Morgan's great crescent rainbow obverse toning. This picture doesn't due this coin justice as the luster just jumps off this NGC 1884CC GSA MS63* graded Morgan. I looked at a bunch of GSA's the last few months, and when a bid on a Buffalo nickel I went strongly after fell through, this coin became the "consolation prize" and I couldn't

Minor change in direction

Led to a nice trade with 6 Mile Rick When I first started collecting certified coins I started with modern proofs and MS66 wheat cents. Of course modern coins can have different meanings to different collectors. For me it means 1965 to current- basically the end of the silver coin era. Others may define moderns as post 1934 or after 1946/7 with the end of the Mercury/Walker series. Anyway as time has gone on it dawned on me that to keep current with my proof sets I would be looking at buying 1

Panning For Gold

Searching for that coin that could be worth gold So here I am. June 29, 2013. What a year so far. We have had some wicked flooding here in Calgary, Alberta. Rain, Wow!!! have we had rain! Anyway, thats another story. What I'm here for today, is to tell a really great storey about coin collecting. The story that all of us collectors live for. O.K. here we go. I will start this story about five years ago. I was on ebay and was just passing time searching for coins. I typed in "Canada, 1953, PL

2013 P Jefferson Nickel Reverse Struck Thru Error

A MS67 too! I went to my local coin dealer in Green Bay. They sell more trading cards than coins. Not surprising yeh? Anyways, I bought 4 of the 2013 Mint Sets. There last four they had in stock with 3 still sealed brown boxes and one open for display. The best of all four sets was....the opened one... Going thru the coins in the sets something caught my eye and I relooked and sure enough there is a few impressions on the Reverse right below the steps. The photo didn't show it all b

Thanks to all who bought coins

A Heart felt thank you to all who bought coins to help with hospital bills Hello Fellow collectors. Thanks to all who bought coins from me, Medicare and Blue cross and blue shield. And your help paid all my hospital bills my out of pocket part came to a whopping $ 225.00 they are now all paid up and I'm sleeping much better. the only thing left to do is quit a nasty habit I've had for the last 37 years and that is to quit smoking. I've tried every thing patches electric smokes. Does a

Why had I not seen this before?

For the most part, I am not an error coin collector except that I think coins displaying clashed dies are rather cool. In numismatic circles, I understand that there is discussion as to whether a clashed die is an error coin or not. My opinion lies somewhere in between and I think that the error occurred to the dies when they clashed together without a planchet. Subsequently, every coin thereafter correctly struck with that die pair carries the image of that one error. A clashed die occurs w

Well, anyone have some Lincoln PF 1909 VDB (possible and impaired) experience?

Possibly found one in an old wheatie roll...but ill be up front, Im not one for pics when it comes to cents like this, but ill post a crude pic that plan on sending to NCS. This one just has me stumped, since I really think no one would really try to fake a lower graded PF. For you Lincoln experts, anything is good for me. The one on the right is the suspected PF, the other is a regular business circulated strike for sure. Looking for some feedback before the FUN vacation. To see ol

A mammoth deal ...

is coming to my set! For about a year I tried to contact a fellow member about buying a couple of his coins. Well, all this time with no response, I was thinking "Man, this must be one busy person or perhaps they travel quite a bit". About a month ago I finally made contact with him. Turns out he had moved, changed jobs, and changed emails and had just gotten around to changing his email on CS. I didn't even consider -- ya know -- LIFE! I sent him a message that I wanted to buy some of
