THE *COLLECTOR-DEALER* INTERACTION Continued.....

Before we, analyze the above problematic, fear driven, subject-matter I propose the following:   Every Picture tells a story and as a picture so does the coin picture. Who loves pictures the most? The Artist's Collection do! And you can't have fun without a bit of wry humor and less boring facts. You are allowed to be witty by universal law: free will. The subject of the coin dealer strikes fear deep into the center of the collector. At least it does in this collector. There are as many re

THE *COLLECTOR-DEALER* INTERACTION

Coins are purchased from a variety of sources: *Dedicated Auction (Brick & Mortar) Houses *Online non-dealer Auction Websites *Dealer Websites *Dealer Auctions and website Auctions *Direct Dealer Interaction or Dealer afar transactions *Commercial Merchandise Auction Website *Live Yearly Coin Exhibitions: City/State Shows *Coin Club Shows *And Many More What they have in common is the usage of coin imagery. Back to the issue: the coin image is the vehicle we rely on to tell the

eBay bans the sale of ALL Cuban coins ...

... according to the COIN World front page article in the June 17, 2013 edition. eBay had provided quite a vibrant marketplace for certified First Republic Cuban coinage and the vast majority of my Collectors Society registered coins were obtained there. Cuban coins minted between 1915 and 1961 inclusive are identified as being from the "First Republic," and the Collectors Society designates each Cuban registry set as such. These coins were all minted by the US Mint in the USA and are not em

A Good Day

especially for a Monday. Hi all, Yes, today has been a good day so far. First, when I picked up my mail, it included a package from Teletrade. You guessed it, my 1875 CC Trade dollar is now in my hot little hands, I have even photographed it already!!!!! And yes, the dual image will be the photo for today's journal. After the photo tasks were completed, I finished my coupon submission and it is all ready to send to NGC. I had to make a choice and I went with the easy decision, 5 buffalo ni

APO Lenses for Coin Imaging

Regular camera lenses produce chromatic aberration: Red, Yellow Blue do not focus equally on the CCD sensor plane.Apochromatic lenses, like BRG might use, focus the many varied color rays oflight together on the CCD sensor plane. Regular lenses do not and therefore produce color image distortion. It would then seem beneficial for accurate coin color rendition to use an APOlens. This would include types of copy camera lenses as well as film enlarginglenses and specialized apochromats made for came

Cracked the Top Ten

A "distraction set" has turned into a registry top ten One thing I particularly enjoy about the Collectors Society Registry is the variety of ways that people assemble sets and that are included in the registry. There are type sets by denomination and by century...series short sets, one-per-dates and whole sets. Some sets are broken up according to design changes in the series or even a year or two special design. Of course if you care to assemble a set by topical or themed, a world set from

Opinions Please - Redone

Recommendations incorporated... without sacrificing what I like. I certainly appreciate every comment I received, especially those that subscribe to the K.I.S.S. method, because those really made me think about what I was doing. All things considered I didn't just want another example of the same old thing. I wanted something that was unique to me and my set, so I decided to go with the spiced up version trying to incorporate most every comment from everyone. That said, I present the fin

Opinions Please

On a new photo layout for my Lincolns. I keep seeing all of these great photos members are doing up to present their coins, especially the ones with the black backgrounds. What A Week

Submission after Submission!!! Friends, O-K ---- I know it's about time I sent those submissions off I been ranting about for 2 months now. I stayed with the 1970 to 1979 MS coins which really started to add up as I chose different groups of grading. Of course I threw the 5 free certificate out there and then had 11 more left for NGC. The rest will go to NCS first which came out to 36 coins (OUCH!!!) that's gonna cost me. The PDF submission they give you does not like my computer but I copi

There are some very talented Photographers on The Collector's Society.

Thank you so much for your high resolution images. I will have to try your approaches. I tried an old 35MM film, manual focus 55mm Micro-Nikkor on my digital Nikon and below are the results. It appears to have an edge over the AF 105 MM Nikkor. You can be the judge. It's a dime. I had to move the tripod to about 5" from the coin. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 2013 WEST POINT SILVER EAGLE SET

WOW!!!! I see one of the large internet sellers is having a "PRE-SALE" for the 2013 West Point coins. But at $289.00 a set, I think I will order a few sets and send them in myself and take my chances. Anybody else going to do the same? Thanks and as always appreciate your interest. Oh Rosie, Oh Rosie, How did you get ahold of me like this???

Can't get away from that tiny 10c piece. Dear Mr. Roosevelt Dime, You first caught my attention in a cash register when I was 21. You sound different from the rest of the dimes in the till. I inspected you and all I knew was, "Hey! You're from 1962!" At that point in time, I didn't know you where silver, I thought you may be fake, or even an error. I took you home, and put you away, there you stayed until a much later day. Fast forward, maybe 7 or 8 years and I found some of your brot

Sometimes the flaws add character

2 Major Die Cracks Hi everyone. There have been some post by fellow members lately in reference too images that show the coin for what it is and not trying to hide flaws and enhance it's qualities through various photo hardware. I recently stated in a previous post that I was having my Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry set photograph by a fellow collector. He normally sends me at least 5 or more images for both the obverse and reverse of each coin. I know a lot of auction houses

THE IMAGING SETUP:5; The Light Source.

Surfaces and dimensionality elucidate the coin for honest coin photos. The empirical elucidation of a coin depends on the extent of 3-dimensional and and 2-dimensional depiction combined through the use of two light sources. Two sources of illumination combine to bring 3-D sculptural depth with 2-D surface depiction. Thus one has the means to accurately depict a coins reality without resorting slight of illusory, visual computer trickery. Positioning the upper and lower light sources front
