TeleTrade too auction 2nd finest graded NGC 1955 Double Die Lincoln Wheat Cent

Makes my eyes cross. Hi everyone. In this Sunday's TeleTrade auction they are listing the 2nd finest graded NGC 1955 Double Die. It is only one of 2 examples graded at MS66 with this one graded MS66RB. Now this would be a dream coin for a lot of us Lincoln collectors too say the least. From the pictures I cannot tell if this coin meets the RB standard anymore but still a very impressive example of this error date Lincoln. With a starting price of $21,000 it is out of my ballpark for now.

Interesting find during my latest trip to Northern New York

I am certain I have a -- one of a kind -- out of a Gazillion Cent pieces. Whenever I travel I look for some out of the way shop that sell coins. The dustier the place, the more fun I end up having, looking for coins. This time while visiting Northern New York I came across a consignment booth that had nearly 500 cardboard flipped sealed coins, in a bin container. The owner of the booth was gone for the day but, I asked the owner of the shop about the coins and was told that all of the coin

God Works in mighty ways

4 day stay in the hospital will changes a man I had the misfortune to spend Sunday Afternoon until 1 pm today in the hospital, with what they first thought was congestive heart problems now this will scare the holy heck out of even a God loving 52 year old man like myself. Thank the Great All Mighty it was only excess fluid in my lungs and around my heart. I lost 8.5 pounds in one day. Now the reason I'm writing this post is not to preach my belief's I have but to warn all of you who are long

ANACS on eBay

I know NGC and PCGS are the top tier coin graders. I'm not sure how familiar everyone is with eBay's policies for selling graded coins. NUTSHELL: In the past, coins couldn't be listed as "certified" nor could they be listed with a numeric grade unless they were graded by NGC or PCGS (or NCS, and appropriate details grade). For coins that were graded by ANACS, ICG (or companies that are notably worse than ANACS and ICG), the rules prohibited sellers from calling the coins "certified" or

Follow-up from previous post

Wanted to do this for a long time As promised and following others lead here, I can now expose my "other" new found hobby funded in part by the partial sale of my Kennedy Collection. I am in the home stretch of my new car. Well actually not new, it's a 1923 Ford Model T Bucket. I have been modifying it for the last 2 months getting ready for upcoming car shows. It has a 383 Chevy Stroker engine with competition cam. Put in a brand new Eaton Posi rear-end with 3.55 gears and just mounted t

Wow are these movers and shakers

Never seen this before Greetings once again my fellow collectors. It has been awhile since I last posted as I have been really busy pursuing another adventure I have had for a long time (more on that later this week) I was on the phone talking to another long time member here on the CS the other night about Franklin Proofs and when I went to look up the FMV for a particular year I couldn't believe what I was looking at. There was NO Red (decrease in FMV) in the whole series. ONLY Gree

CC GSA Hoards

I sent in a 1881 CC and 1883 CC, both GSA Hoard types... I won these recently as part of my quest to get the CC GSAs for my custom set. Since I decided I wanted the GSA CC Morgans to be part of my collection, I have won several ('78 MS63, '80M MS62 ,'82 MS63, '84 MS63, '85 MS63) and now have the '81 and '83 in for grading. Their not the best looking coins, but they'll add to my collection and score! At first, I wasn't too impressed with the '83, but after another look, I decided it was w

1882-S Double Eagle Graded MS62 CAC

Few Finer 1882-S Double Eagles Available With each new acquisition for the Grandview Collection of Liberty Double Eagles in 2013, I plan to describe the coin and relevant background information with a journal post. Additional images of the coin and holder will also be provided in the journal. I may even post about interesting coins that have been in the collection for many years. Type 3 double eagles were produced over a long span of years from 1877 until 1907, and were minted in Philade

What is a Coin Worth?

I guess the Answer is it Depends on the Buyer In a recent post wdrob brings up the interesting question as to the value of a coin. His argument is that selling a coin below the Grey Sheet value reduces the overall value of a coin. This is probably true over the long term. Of course the reverse is also true. I have seen many sales of high grade Roosevelt Dimes go above the Grey Sheet value. Such sales would over time likely raise the Grey Sheet value. In the end isn't the Grey Sheet value simpl

Would like to share this

Fellow members and 5 star General silver dollars I just completed a deal with a fellow member. The experience was great. He was very patient with me as I was having a little difficulty getting funds lined up. After everything was said and done, the coins are on their way, he sent me serial #s and pics so I can put them in my registry now. That is great As far as the 5 star Generals are concerned both my PF70 and MS70 ar not what I call perfect. On the unc there is a reeded edge scratch

Thanks CCCoindude!

1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel MS 67 STAR (*) I also wanted to thank CCCoindude for letting me acquire several of his nicer coins. The 1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel in MS 67 STAR (*) condition is just fantastic. I always like purchasing coins directly from members and cheating the auction houses out of their high commissions. It only makes sense for our members to work with each other to improve the hobby and save each other money. If CCCcoindude has any coins remaining you can count on him for fast

5 Star General Proof Halfs

What the heck !!! I was just searching E Bay and what makes a proof 70 5 star Gen half graded by PCGS go for over $600 and a proof NGC go for under a $100. Is there that much difference ? What the heck I've also found this with 70 grade silver eagles. Is it just cause of the POP ? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Surprise at my local bank today.

Turned 50 Cents into eight dollars. For giggles, I visited one of my local banks and asked for rolls of quarters. On a whim, I also asked if they had any 1/2 dollar rolls. The teller, who I did not know, told me that she had none. The teller next to her, however, stated that she had only four 1/2 dollar coins. I handed her two dollar bills and took my four 1/2 dollars along with four rolls of quarters, said thanks and headed to my car. As I got to the car I casually looked at the 1/2 d

Our Community Members Are The Best

I've never had an issues when dealing with a CS member. Most of us who have been collecting for a while have been burned a time or two. Sometimes it is caused by our own desires to find a hidden treasure, an undiscovered prize or a coin of value at a nice price. Unfortunately some of the misfortune and bad dealings come from shady dealers or people who deal in the hobby for profit only or others who intentionally misrepresent or over-represent coins. As collectors we are bombarded by scamm

Change .... and not what is in your pocket either. Change can be a good thing.

There is quite a bit of discussion that takes place complaining about eBays fees, shill bidding, proxy bidding, and disagreements with certain eBay policies. It is my personal belief that these problems can not be corrected without an alternative auction house option. Complaining to eBay will do nothing and the rates are going to rise regardless. eBay has to do everything it can to satisfy it's stock holders so you end up with the current environment that you have now. Great day to be a collector of modern coins

2013 starting out to be a great year I sent in my new 2013 Proof set to NGC for grading. And today I received the results and was blown away 9 out of 14 were perfect PF 70 UC with the other 5 PF 69 UC that's the best grading results for a single proof set I've ever had. Just a warning for all of you who summit this set there seems to be a small glitch in NGC's registry program as 2 of my pf 70 uc coins were only given 1 registry point. but a quick call to NGC has this small problem being s

The 1783MO FF Mexico 8 Reales Shipwreck Coinage

In the early Colonial period of American History the United States (not yet the US) had no mints established and it was common to use currency from other nations to buy goods that were not bought directly from Great Britain. The other national coinage included France and Spain and the Spanish King Charles III had ordered the minting and shipment of this Spanish silver to be delivered and used by Americans in order to further establish and concentrate his power. This was at a time, after the Re

A visit to the Wizard

Wizard coin supply that is Friends, I have been busy lately slowly catching up on the slowness that winter causes in debt and less work. As I add jobs to my worksheets it looks like it will be time soon to send in another submission to satisfy my modern coin collecting insanity. A visit to Wizard and a order of 350 poly flips fit the bill but not without a few more additions. I needed the volume 2 cherry pickers guide and decided to add the Authoritative reference on Roosevelt dimes. I h
