Lincoln Cents

A bit of a detour Good morning. I've kept ya'll up to date on my quest to finish my Lincoln Cent collection. Since my wife likes to sleep in on Sundays, I sat down at the laptop and browsed around Ebay. I am down to the last 4 coins (Minus the 55 DDO) and have not seen any of them come up for auction. Because of that and my desire to finish the set and move on, I searched PCGS graded coins. I added the 1952 and 1952 D. The bad news is that these are a different grading company from the

My first Classic Commemorative

The 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary silver half dollar Hello Friends, This commemorative has been high on my want list for the representation of my ancestor William Bradford on the obverse but the Mayflower on the reverse of this coin compelled me to buy if for my custom set called "My Heritage Set". It's a very nice example with wonderful purple toning on the reverse that I especially like. There are some contact marks to the obverse on the hat and cheek but I'm still very pleased with it and at

Coin Collectors Anonymous

I have a problem..... Hello, my name is Marcus and I love everyone's sets. I come here to the message boards and I read about people's love for the set they are working on. In reading their excitement, it makes me want to start up a similar set, even though I have sets that I am working hard to complete.....   I write all this in fun. However, I do enjoy reading about everyone's love of what they are collecting. The passion keeps me moving forward in my sets and the knowledge I gain fro

The Mystery of the 58 Franklin Proof

Results are in "as the coin turns" Received the 1958 Franklin Proof I bought the other day that was listed using a strange photo, anyway strange looking to me. Well, I now can report that it was the way the photo was taken. It is not a new variety, (boo) but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right ?! I have included the photo (again) that was used in the ad beside a photo of the coin I took tonight so you can see. FYI the ad photo is on the left. Mike To see old comments for this Jo

Presidential SMS Values

No values? I have searched before asking, but was unable to find the reason why Presidential SMS $1 2007-2010 set coins have no assigned dollar value. They have point value, but no dollar value. Can someone educate me on this. Thanks, Chuck To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Garys March Coin of the Month

This months featured coin (Volume 2 Number 7) is a silver proof-like 1970 Netherlands 10 Gulden coin commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Netherlands liberation from Nazi Germany in 1945. In more than 100 years, the Netherlands has not had a male monarch on the throne. As a result, this Netherlands 1970 silver 10 gulden coin commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of liberation features the two reigning queens of the middle twentieth century. 2013 W ASE results

Results passed all expectations. I just received notice from NGC that my two 2013W ASE have been graded PF70; with an -- Early Release -- lable. These are my first self-processed and submitted coins, from the mint, to reach this status. Needless to say, I am extremely pleased with my results, and may I add, and with the quality and expedient customer service that I received from NGC. Semper Fi ! ON MY WAY

Well on my way to making my goal for 2013.... Good Morning my fellow collectors, I set a goal for 2013 of breaking into the top 500's in registry points. And just 2 month into the year I have broken through the 700's into the 695 slot.( for now at least if someone close to me updates I could find myself right back in the 700's) this may sound like I'm bragging and I quess I am a little. however I love it when I know a goal is within my reach. And that I may surpass it. I know I should l

Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo

Has anyone heard anything more about a possible Reverse Proof Gold Buffalo? I got a survey last year about it but have not heard anything since. I am really interested to know when it may come out and if they decided on a circulation amount. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Interesting article

From Coin World Mar. edition In my earlier journal about the Franklin gmarguli responded with why make a counterfeit Franklin and rightly so. I mean I would think if you were going to go to the great lengths to reproduce a coin you would choose something that you would have a chance on realizing a greater profit from, right ?! Well, in the latest issue of Coin World is an article about this young man in Texas that was apprehended making counterfeit Prospector silver rounds. Pawn shops actua

Collector Helps Collector Secure Legacy

Presenting: The Bo Jingles Carson City GSA Holder Collection In my last post I introduced you to the "Big Sister" of my Morgan Carson City GSA Holder set. A beautiful 1879 that I honestly thought would be a stretch ever owning. I was stunned to be able to obtain it and I certainly felt that was the last addition I could make to the set for quite a while. So many things had to line up just right including a deal that fell through on an 1891 three days earlier to make the acquisition a reali

Buffaloed again.

New beast in the corral Purchased a 2008 PF70 Buffalo. Now I have to find the other PF's of the buffalo series. I think this one is the rare one, so I decided to corral it before someone else got it in their sights. Will take and add picture when coin arrives. Generally new to coin collecting

So I have become madly addicted to collecting Carson City Morgans and to modern ASE proofs. So I think I have done well in my first full year of collecting but now I have a new problem..... Those darn registry points, with my competitive nature I want to be ranked higher and higher. I have let it get to the point where it influences my purchases. Like I was wondering which coin to bid on in a recent auction and my final decision was based on which would give me more points!! I have been re

Dr. "D" and the Automobile Accident

Ever notice how hard it is to drive by a recent car wreck and not look? It is so hard not to look. Not to view the good "doctor's" journals. Not to respond on the Chat Boards? It's like a car wreck, we just tend to look (even if it endangers us and others and slows down traffic flow). Human nature, I guess. In order to bring the Journals back to the subject of COINS, perhpas we should all just try not to look. Don't open his Journal entries with the word "Rant" in the title. Don't res

Editing pics

Good for a change in viewing. Friends, As I have put a few sets on the chopping block I was asked for more pics on a favorite of mine. This 1944 MS66 Walker is a stunning piece that CBC won from Bowers and Marina a few years back. I obtained it through a trade from him when I went to visit him a year or so ago. So I spent a while yesterday getting the detail and the tones a little fine tuned to show. I was so pleased with the better shots that the old pics were replaced. I will eventually g
