So what about a lable. I totally agree. It doesn't impress me with all the hype about a coins release. I collect coins, not label on a slab. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Today in history

Happy Birthday to the US Mint Now I know this is not the Birthday of the first mint opening. But it is the 221st Birthday of Congress signing the US Coinage act. Take a moment today and thank the congress of 1792 for our great hobby Happy collecting and may God Bless...Mike To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. THE TOES ARE IN A LITTLE DEEPER

I Added The 1909-S This Week. My venture into the Indian Cent series continued this week as I found a nice MS-61 Bn example in a dealer's inventory. It arrrived today, and I am more than pleased. The coin is a nice even reddish tan color with smooth surfaces and a nice strike. I really like the look of my mini-collection, and have enjoyed the search. However, I have not yet been bitten by the BUG. So I will stick with the plan to stay ankle deep before making a collecting commitment to

consecutive order? Hey everyone, I was going through some of my slabs to possibly put them up for sale and simply stumbled onto something that I feel the odds are uncalculatable. I pick out an Eagle coin, MS70 NGC. set it aside and was hehawing through some others that were of different grade, but NGC non the less. Well get this fellow members now remember, I bought these two coins about 6 months apart, and from 2 different companies and from two different parts of the country. One is a

wow what a jump

I gained many registry points I was looking at my coin Registry yesterday and noticed I went from being ranked 650th to 584. now I'm not complaining as I love the jump, But I haven't added any coins, so I'm guessing NGC must have corrected some of the grossly under scored coins in my collection. whoever asked for the correction thank you very much. I have a few sets in for grading. maybe I'll hit my goal of the low 500's early and have to revamp my goal to the mid 400's this year. happ

our registry awards

Are they late? First of all, thanks for all of the good feedback on my last journal. I guess when the coins come back to me, I will have to " get cracking", on those pcgs holders to resend them in. Now, to my current journal. I thought that it was a little strange that I hadn't received my award certificates for this year. I know that they are just certificates, but I do enjoy receiving them every year. The other day I suddenly realized that they hadn't arrived yet this year. On Tuesday I se

This is killing meeee!

This is killing me/ driving me nuts!!! So, I tried a PCGS crossover again. I thought "GREAT!" they are moving on my submission so fast. Recieved, first day. Scedualled for grading on the second day. YAAA! Third day, quality control. WOW! this is great! Fourth day......#@!!??. What went wrong? "did not cross". I almost lost my mind. How? Why? I mean, I did everything right, didn't I? I left the min. grade open so that they could grade it to what they wanted. I couldn't hold back, I wrote a lett

coins are fun

I like the new NGC only registry. There is so much fun in collecting coins and I am find that NGC has been excellent and pointing out problem coins but still accepting that a light clean from 100 years ago does not mean the coin is not worth collecting. It is for this reason that while one day I will finish the Liberty Seated Series, NGC will be the main grader of choice for my quarter collection. I am not going to leave my children coins that they do not understand. NGC holder protect the

1870 $2.5 Liberty has found a new home

Adoption Central is open Well, my home has adopted a new child the 1870 MS61 Liberty $2.5 Gold. Now I have a couple of 1870s and this issue has few better, so I am happy being in the crowd, so to speak, as this one is not the highest grade but more than acceptable and quite rare. I may continue looking for deals on coins like this, I am getting more focused on sets and rarities such as this. Happy collecting. Soon Summer Vacation is upon me, and I will be scouring the country from Florida

Coin or Label?

"I don't get it" Just like Tom Hanks in the movie "BIG", I don't get it. I like to watch coin shows on TV, or at least I used to. I do not want to offend any one, but could someone please explain why the coin shows are emphasizing "First Releases", "First Strikes", "Early Releases", or whatever else the grading services come up with. Are we being sold coins or labels? What differance does it make whether the coin was minted in January or December? I don't get it! I think I'll switch the channe

MODERN COIN INSANITY

TO MY FELLOW COLLECTOR OF 1980D QUARTER Idon't want to offend any collectors of modern coins, BUT my fellow collector who posted about the points and rarity of a 1980d wash quarter.Facts: Mintage 518,327,487. that is over 1/2 billion Redbook in ms-65-$6.I would have took the 230 something points and ran like hell and not to complaining about more points. That coin received as many points initially as my 1899 France 1 cent in ms-67 with a mintage of 1 million and no closer grade within 2 grades.

Looking for mint sets

Working on my mint sets lately. Friends, I have a small chest the I keep my U S Mint sets & proof sets in and would like to fill it. If you have a group that you would like to sell or trade let me know. I presently have around 50% from 1965 to date but would like to fill the holes that are missing in the box and maybe add some earlier sets. I know, "e-bay or auctions" but I have stopped all of that and been buying and trading in the club only. It has worked well for 4 years now and I wo

MS70 eagles not worth the points issued

Really now, 6,000 registry points for that ? Just looking at all these hyperinflated registry sets and say what ? ...... over 6,000 points for a MS70 1999 ASE ? Now just what did this coin cost ? $40 , $50 ? , meanwhile I see serious collectors with a $100,000 coin that only puts 4,500 points up on the platter. The fellows that have these high point ASE 's simply don't have the money to chase serious coins worth eons more than this modern stuff. Cutting to the chase, don't you hate seei

Modern Coins and spots

Silver Eagles with milk spots "Quick Fix" Friends, We have heard quite a few complaints on coins purchased beautiful but spotted after placed in their safe a few years. Sometimes we don't have the time to pull the coins out and check them and when we do they are spotted. Most blame it on the safe and humidity or whatever. Well the fix for that is NCS for preservation of the coins. Some of the best collections in museums get spotted and are preserved on a regular basis. I found a good rea

Oops, I did it again......

Husband's bent thinking improves two sets! I never meant my posts to be a weekly feature of the NCS Journal Page, but apparently it looks as if I have been doing just that. So, Mrs. Jingles' birthday is coming up in April. I never know what to get her and often lament over it and end up with flowers and dinner or some such thing. This year she has probably been wondering what she is going to get since I have been spending our money on coins. Then a brilliant idea entered my head.... BUY
