THE JEFFERSON SPEARED BISON!

In 2005 a 'Speared Bison' Denver Nickel Found in Texas! This created quite a craze back then. This is not considered a variety at all, but it is a great die gouge of modern find. Pcgs calls it a Speared Bison, where Ngc only recognized this as a die gouge, nonetheless- It is still important enough and worthy of attention in the Jefferson Series. How many may still be out there in rolls? Future Price Values? Will this Die-flawed Bison still grab the attention of new collectors starting

2011 (w) struck at West Point Silver Eagles

Check out Ebay If you were like me and collect Silver Eagles and avoided buying the 2011 (w) Silver Eagle because it was not originally part of the Silver Eagle registry slots until real recent, check out Ebay. Though they are PCGS bullion, I doubt if you will find any that are still affordable with NGC. BTW... I don't sell Silver Eagles...just buy the ones I need to fill my slots is all Good luck! He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother-My latest addition NGC MS67RD 1963 Lincoln Memorial

The Hollies Hi everyone. It has been awhile since I have posted anything to the journal boards. Today I added my latest 2 additions to my Lincoln Memorial Registry sets. I added a NGC MS67RD 1963 and a NGC MS67RD 1961 Lincoln Memorial. About 2 years ago a few fellow collectors and I got together and started helping each other on finding affordable coins for our sets. We notice that we were competing bidders on several occasions. We got together and would notify the others of which coins

Silver and Gold take a tumble

Will the Mint lower prices? With Silver and Gold prices plummeting to over a 2 year low. How long will the US Mint adjust some of their Commemorative coin prices and Eagles? My guess is sometime next week? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

My First GSA Morgan

Started off with a good one For the past dozen years or so, my collecting focus has been first completing and then upgrading my Walking Liberty half set, with Franklin half sets and a few Mint sets to keep things interesting. I pretty much ran out of Walker upgrades within my budget so I recently started working on Morgan dollars. 105 (!!!) slots to fill! Some of them easy, some difficult, some I'm sure will prove to be impossible (again, within budget). However, i'm trying to be very parti

A sad date in history for one of Amercias best Presidents

The day America mourned Today is the day we lost a great President when President Lincoln died from a single gun shot to the back of his head. His killer didn't even have the backbone to face his foe. For some unknown reason the name john wilkes Booth is still known to our school children. So take a moment today and remember the man who held this great country together, And died for doing so... Scarce 1792 Conder Token

Doesn't get much better than this one... When I started my horses collection 2 years ago, one of the first resources I browsed was the Dalton & Hamer (D&H) reference for Conder Tokens. There are many designs featuring horses, and I have a list that I regularly look for. Well, about 10 days ago, one on that list came up for sale on eBay, and I was determined to get her home to my collection! The token in my sights was a Lancashire (Rochdale) 1792 issued piece. The obverse features

Top Pop 6!

Just received today... my gorgeous 1961 P MS67RD Lincoln from Telecoin. That's right - only 6 in the top pop grade - and best I can tell only 3 of those are in our registry. Right now it only fetches 241 points but hopefully that will change with two recent score change requests. Maybe it will at least be on par with the 1961 D with 908 points and 8 times as many graded in MS67RD. I leave you with a picture of this amazing coin. Congo Free State 5 Francs Final Coin

1891 5 Francs...Finally! I finally found this 1891 5 Francs coin, which is a very very rare Uncirculated coin. This coin is graded NGC MS62 and could easily have graded MS63. It has taken me over 10 years to find an uncirculated example of this date. This is the only one graded in any grade by either service and the first that I have seen so far. I now have all of the KM 8.1 5 Francs pieces in mint state grades from MS62-MS66. (NGC and PCGS). The big one left to get is the KM 8.2 To s

It's Finally Finished

Just a formality now I won the 1941 D Lincoln cent yesterday to bring to a close, my 1934 - 1958 business strike Lincoln Cent collection. The only exception will be the 1955 DDO. That one will stay blank for awhile. I have been working on this set off and on for about 5 years, but have really been grinding it down over the past year and a half or so. In about a week when the mailman drops it off, it will be finished.   Happy collecting, Marcus To see old comments for this Journal

Pics and more

put pics of my newest trade dollar in my gallery Howdy all, I received the 1876-S Trade Dollar I won in the Teletrade auction a week ago Sunday on Saturday. So over the weekend I finally got pics of it, not quite pleased with them, but I am going to keep them. Please look at my set for the pictures, I am going to put one side in this journal. Things are going well with my baement and porch projects. Still on for a next Monday start for my basement and the porch will be started soon. I di

Have decided to sell my collection

Many high end and top pop coins availabe. After many years of collecting, I've decided to sell the vast majority of my collection. No fiscal crisis, health issues or any of the other events that sometimes accompanies these decisions. Just decided to move in a different direction over the next few years. I'll keep my MS69/PF69 silver eagle sets and a few of my high end morgans (at least for now). Others I'll be adding prices to as time permits. If you spot something that catches your eye,

ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGE

EBAY April 16th, mark it on your calendar. Ebay fees skyrocket for the non store folks. That's you and me, the little guy who wants to sell something now and then. They are slowly but surley putting us totally out of the picture. We/us little guys are what made Ebay in the first place. Now the young mom can't sell her old baby clothes on ebay, cuz the fees will go up BBBBIIIIIGGGG TIME. She like me have to mark things up so high now just to cover fees, and it will never sell cuz the su

New #1 Mint Set

I have finally achieved another personal goal - to take the lead in my birth year mint set - 1966 business strike. I currently have an MS67RD Lincoln (top pop), an MS66 Jefferson (3 finer), an MS67FT Roosevelt (3 finer), and an MS67 Washington (1 finer). Only missing the MS66 Kennedy. These coins put me in the lead by about 600 points. But it gets better. Just last week I agreed to purchase Todd Henson's MS68FT Roosevelt (top pop of 3) and this will add another 799 points to my total.

ADVICE PLEASE

SAFE HOLDER STORAGE PRODUCTS Does anyone have knowledge or experience with Intercept Shield or Coinarmour products? I have a few of the Intercept Shield baseball card boxes, mainly because the slab boxes are no more, and they work great for the slabs. I am looking at Coinarmour, anyone know about them experience wise? Or are there other products out there that I am missing looking at? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Exciting Times Ahead

Basement will be fixed, Porch will be redone, and coins and currency will be graded. Hi all, Yes, it is an exciting time here at "Collecting Central". In about 11 days, the company will be here to start on my basement, and none too soon as it needs to be done soon. Since I am doing all this (along with a home loan to do it) I decided to get insulated window for the little sun porch on the east side of my house. I do not know why it was not done when it was first put on, but I am hoping to ha
