Fellow collector

Buying Coins from fello NGC Members. I purchased a couple of coins from my friend and fellow collector, CC Coin Dude. It was a very easy transaction, no hassle, no headache and the coins will stay with me untill I pass them to my heirs. I just want you to know that your coins that are now mine are in good hands. Thanks again. David K UPS Man To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

WHEN IS A SET A SET?

2013W SILVER EAGLE SET #s WAY OFF. Well that is a good question. When is a set a set? To me when a set is put forth such as the 2012 and 2013 and even the 2011 ASE sets by the mint, and they are sold by one of the large sellers, and they are purchased by a long time customer, you would think that they would send a pair that is reasonably close in numbers. So help me out here folks, am I wish full thinking or what? All my other sets are real good in matching up the numbers. I guess I feel

More new Silver Eagles

When is it gonna stop 2013 has come and most Silver Eagles have been issued. There again another new one. I remember when I just bought 2 or 3 each year to stay current.. Now I must buy 8 or 10 and hope I got all the new ones out in 69 and 70 to fill my sets. My 2006 Reverse Proof was the only one of its kind and now we are getting bombed by them every year. When will it all end? gotagofish >")))))>< To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be

What else could be in this house ????? My mind is wondering !!!!

Abandoned for years over 40 years Hello everyone. I recently bought a new house, well, its new to me. I had been looking for a house that was bigger than 3 bedroom 1 bath.. Im sure you can see the problem. I was wanting something with a 2 car garage. Real estate is high here in south Louisiana. I have been looking for over a year now. I just happened to look through my computer and found a huge house that was a fixer upper. I was amazed when I pulled up in the drive way. The house sat on 5 lots

The 1855 Kellogg And Co. $50 Gold Gem Commemorative Restrike

To be or not to be a grade? That is the question I have recently acquired the above coin, and it is a stunning example. First of all, it is nearly 2.5 oz. of Au, (boy do I love klinking gold coins. I do not clink this one). It is rated by PCGS as GEM quality, so I suppose it is a graded coin. But has no registration number, ergo I can not put it in my registry. As far as I am concerned, if I can not add it to the registry, it is ONLY a collectible or an investment. Where would you put t

Resolutiom for the stolen coin I bought on ebay

What a fiasco!!! Let me start by saying that the ebay seller ne14adeal2 was very professional and a great person to deal with, the Fresno P.D. not so much! once he and I were notified by the police that the coin was reported stolen, he was very quick to refund my money. The coin is now on its way back to the rightful owner and I am glad this is over. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Personal Family Dilemma

To Sell or not to Sell.... I know we all collect for different reasons and we, at times, change the direction what we collect and certain times. I started the SAE set a few years back. Silver was low so I expected to buy the West Point Eagles directly from the US Mint. I could afford to buy around 10 of them and hopefully find a few that could be MS70 to keep one and sell the rest to support "the habit".....collecting that is. I know I would never be able to afford to purchase those earli

1900 $20 NGC MS62 Prooflike

One of six 1900 double eagles designed prooflike by NGC. With each new acquisition for the Grandview Collection of Liberty Double Eagles in 2013, I plan to describe the coin and relevant background information with a journal post. NGC has designated only six 1900 double eagles as prooflike in all grades with three in MS62 PL and two finer both in MS63 PL (Aug 2013). The 1900 is the second most common liberty head twenty with about 47,000 graded. This number is well behind the ubiquito

Things I learned about selling a collection

The do's and don'ts! I finished selling the vast portion of my collection today. Every collector (or their heirs) will probably face this some day, so I thought I'd share my experience and ask others to chime in with their thoughts. The Marketplace Board: This went quite well and many collectors here on the registry bought various pieces amounting to about 40% of what I had to sell. This was probably the most positive experience, as I've met MANY nice people there during this process. T

New additions to my Modern Commemoratives

...and slowly getting to that 50% completed mark Hello fellow collectors, Just a quick little note on my latest addition to my collection...the 4 1983 Olympic Commemorative Silver Dollars. These we the first of the $1 comms to be issued since 1900. And that being said, the Mint could of done a little better job. Even though the Olympics is a worthy theme, the design that was chosen for the obverse leaves a bit to be desired. I do like the bald eagle on the reverse though! On the obverse,

My Mate. A 1998 1C FS-901 mated pair

A saddle struck 1998 FS-901 in a Triple Struck holder and a Broadstruck with reverse indent, both with the proof-type, separated AM, FS-901 reverse. They have been apart since at least 2007, now together in my collection again. I found my mate! It's a beaut! A 1998 1C FS-901 Wide AM/Proof Die Reverse, broadstruck (BS) slightly off center with a reverse brockage and residing in an NGC 65RD holder. This makes a mated pair with my 1998 1C FS-901 Triple Struck wide AM in an NGC 55RD holder. Yo

Good news,bad news,good news

My latest coin purchase ( a stolen coin ) The good news, I found a 1833 Capped Bust quarter on ebay last week so I bid on it and won. I checked the cert number on PCGS and saw that it was registered to someone there. I sent them an email requesting them to remove it from their set. The bad news, this morning I received an email from the Fresno police department stating that the coin was reported stolen. The good news, the original owner is getting their coin back, and that makes me happy I k

Latest Type Set Purchase

Toned 1888 Seated Liberty .25 certified as Proof 62 by NGC and verified by CAC I thought I would share a purchase I made from Northeast Numismatics today. I try to mix up my coin purchases with buying for my Walker sets primarily, but also giving attention to my growing type set. Only a few additions have been made to this set so far, and the additions I do make are usually high-grade, inexpensive, and high-mintage examples. This is a common strategy with type sets, and one I am employing.

"CRACK-OUTS" CAN BE VERY REWARDING, BUT...

But they also can be a Double Edged sword. Your odds are much better if you know the series in question very well. But that may not save you... Greetings Collectors,   I have been playing the crack out game for some 8-10 years now and have been overwhelmed with joy AND I have been so pissed, I swore that I would never ever do it again. To those of you beginning collectors, it is not a game I would advise gambling on. But if you are very alert to what grade a particular coin should have, a

Pandamonium strikes!

Update on my recent diversion while I wait for my latest 8 reales submission to be graded. I read Gary's (ghermann44) latest post about his time at the ANA show with Dave (Yankeejose) and noted that he finally bought his wife a silver panda coin. I've been meaning to journal about pandas for awhile so here goes. I got sidetracked from my 8 reales passion earlier this year when I bought an MS 70 2011 1 oz Silver Panda coin for my fiancee to commemorate the year that we met. Since pandas are h

My Day at the ANA Show with Yankeejose

A day at my third ANA show yields four treasures (five, if you include the complimentary PCGS luncheon Lincoln Cent) and the opportunity to meet and spend the day with fellow coin enthusiast Yankeejose (Dave). Greetings all, Ive been to the ANAs Worlds Fair of Money three times and have found each show unique and enjoyable in different ways. This years show marks the first time I have attended a show with a fellow coin enthusiast. It also represents the first time I have personally met someone

Gotta Luv Trades

Especially unexpected ones... This latest addition came to my set completely unexpectedly and via trade. I saw it pop up on eBay about a week ago and placed it on my watch list for no reason other than to see what happened with it. After a few days I started thinking about it and whether the seller would contemplate a trade. So I put one together and sent a message. Almost accepted immediately with only some small fine tuning. I was stunned but thrilled. Every Lincoln collector wants on

ANA show in Chicago

Can a show be too large? I went to the show on Friday. There were plenty of people but not so crowded that you could not get a look at the display cases. Not as many people sitting and yacking, blocking the display cases as I have noticed at previous shows. Most people were actively looking and/or buying. It almost appeared to me the layout of the show was by the price. The multi-million dollars homes of gold and high end coins on one end and the blue collar brick and mortar type dealers on th

NEED HELP AGAIN

VIEW THESE COINS Hi, just bought these coins today. They are awfully soiled, it even comes off on your hands. The Peace dollar with the "X" on it is scotch tape, it is a very nice coin if I can get the tape residue off, plus on the other side is mold like spots. The Morgans are just grimmy, and like I said it comes off in your hands. How can I spruce them up abit? The one Morgan and one Peace are very nice, in fact the one Morgan still has the sheen/luster of a uncirculated coin, and al
