Some banks are strict with customer policy too . I remember years ago my daughter was like 7 years old she dumped a bunch pennies , dimes , quarters , everything in a bank’s counting machine got her voucher totaled out like $30 she wanted to go pet store buy her first hamster . The lady behind counter wouldn’t give her an exchange of money “because she didn’t have an account” well no duh ! It’s a little 7 year old !!! I asked lady why they don’t put sign up at coin counting machine for customers ONLY ! luckily I had an account with them to get it all sorted out … Can’t believe they would as a little 7 year old that .. the glory days of going in the bank to just do a simple money exchange for whatever you wanted is long over

I know some places that do have coins mostly quarters and gold presidential $1 coins car washes and laundromats . They seems to keep their coins flow within business but some customers put $20 bill in machine probably only use $5 worth of coins and take the rest of $15 with them at home and throw them in a jar …But you didn’t hear that from me ! if you see some angry laundromat owner wondering why you’re using their coin machine for exchanges and not doing business in their establishment… Boy I’m bad at playing dirty sometimes

And we were one of the last to get rid of silver.
What about Mexico? I believe they were truly the last to stop using silver in coins 1977 I believe they minted silver in coins up until 2015 but a very very small trace of silver in coins . Been awhile since I brushed up on South American and Mexican coinage

How us American metalworking machinist convert metric to standard US measurements when using calipers
27.0mm x .0397 = 1.062
or can convert 27.0 divided by 25.4=1.062
your coin’s date looks a little funky but again who knows if it is indeed a fake whoever made it did a real job !

@Quintus Arrius you got @RWB all fired up about them Germania coins 🤣 , we all know RWB only loves them boring overrated Morgan dollars of Anna Willess Williams on observe of the coin and the awkward St. Gaudens which was a bad modeling “figure” display on obverse of the coin that can’t compare to A.W design of walking liberty half dollar is the probably the “king” of all beautiful US coinage if you really compare beauty in the eyes of the beholder that’s probably the only US coin that is ranked #1 US coin on my list for beauty and craftsmanship (#2 on my list is a Mercury dime) all other US coinage is overrated awkward and ugly as they come I’m just ruffling RWB’s feathers 😉

Cool find ! Looks in good condition for something you dug up out of the ground definitely a keeper for your personal collection you did a good job doing a delicate cleaning . I’d grade this probably around “upper” VF to XF probably worth $50-$60 at most if any collector was to buy it some may even pay a little more $70-$80 to say…It’s hard to prices these older coins because of the collector’s market and demands… I see some online sometimes for sale prices are all over the place doesn’t mean that what everyone is willing to pay for a specific coin , If I were you I’d keep it for your own personal collection and good luck with your other finds , I have a guy, I work with that does a lot metal detecting finds all kinds of strange things brings them to work to show me I have no idea what 99% of stuff is , last week he found odd rings that he believes were used on horses to pull plows in fields back in the old days he once found a US civil war belt buckle and dagger that look like it went on gun as well

I would say that looks like carbon spot it doesn’t look like PVC damage which is more like a blob or crusty blueish/green to lighter green color on a coin … I wouldn’t crack that out looks normal to me @J P Mashoke

any tips to storing them so they stay in nice shape ?
Ideal temperature range is what your comfortable with in your house even if AC is running store them in like a bedroom closet will do ok , buy yourself plastic bin put all coins inside and throw silica gel packets or even a rechargeable 40gram metal silica gel can for safety measures (you can never use too much silica gel so a lot doesn’t hurt) . I keep a lot silica gel canisters in my collection even my slab boxes I put one inside each slab box it takes up a little room you’ll lose a few spaces in the slab box ,but it for safety measures (they should make a slab size silica gel canister that slips in the back of slab box for slab collectors)

Coins in that caliber are better off being slabbed and graded with authentication makes much easier to sell makes the buyer comfortable buying as well know it been authenticated , it will also sell for premium more than if it was raw if you want to make the most money off of what you have and if your patience send the coins in have them graded in end you’ll make way more money that way having them graded and sold properly
You can get good pictures with a basic IPhone about 3-4 feet near a window using natural light . Stack some books up with camera just over the edge about 4”-5” above coin use zoom on your phone to get the coin to fill up on your phone screen shoot a picture then crop picture makes the coin look a little bigger save it post pictures on here … it’s better than magnifying glass that’s you are using

I’m not real good at grading gold nor do I look at a lot of gold . I guess I have to remember gold is softer type of metal shows softer sheen makes it look like weak strike sometimes

The imitation 5 Mark pieces, as shown in the photos, are merely mediocre sculpting workmanship. Modeling of the figures is awkward, especially hands and fingers. The pieces also, if intended to be German should read "silber" not "silver" and have weights in grams.
@RWB they are silver rounds from a new private mint that opened up a few years back the Germania mint struck for modern collectors , I been collecting them since they first came out on the European market . The proof are hard to find on US market I have get proofs from a dealer in Germany the other regular strikes can be found all over Ebay at wacky prices they are low mintage issues but nothing to write back home about I don’t intend sending any in for grading or anything just something different to look at in my collection I seen some graded examples going for crazy prices through bidding wars , it’s just dumb ! So easier buy your own and ship it in for grading and save on the cost of someone really wants a graded Germania “silber runden” 😉

That appears to be being caused by the fact that it is still in the capsule. those are reflections seen in the field off the inside of the capsule.

@Alex in PA. this happened to my daughter about 15 years ago at PNC bank . I couldn’t believe it either , the lady behind counter was dead serious too . She was like “well the machine is inside the building sweetie that means it reserved for customers only” she was belittling my daughter in front of me … My daughter wanted to be a big girl that day and do all work herself I stood on sidelines in bank lobby then when I heard “dad ! come here!” Lol! I knew it was time to step in … I asked the lady where was sign that says only customers were allowed use the machine ? She said they just gotten the machine about a month or so nobody really used it much blah blah blah … I had a PNC bank account with my wife at that time she did the exchange right away … years later I heard the banks were charging people 3% for using the coin machine that included customers too … perhaps that lady didn’t know what heck she was talking about who know but it was odd … I’m no longer a PNC bank customer anymore anymore , however my wife is a long time PNC bank customer
