NGC MS67RD 1941 Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent CAC Certified

17 out of 18 CAC certified. Hi Everyone. It has been awhile since my last post. I just recently added this NGC MS67RD 1941 Lincoln Wheat Ear cent to my 34-58 Lincoln registry set which puts me at 25% complete for the set. About 5 years ago when I sold off my 34-58 set it was at the time the #3 set. I decided to sell it off for a couple of reasons. First off, a lot of the coins that I had at the time had either slightly toned or just did not look all that good to me. Secondly I sold the s

pr cameo cent

very funny story I bought what I thought was going to be a mint set and paid $15.. when it got to my house I opened it and my first thought was were are the Denver set and then I noticed the stripe that is normally on the cello wasn't there.. well I looked a little closer and noticed the cameo.. I contacted the seller .. and let them know they had just sold a proof set instead of the mint set I wanted.. well still haven't gotten that mint set .. but the cameo was a nice surpise.. good hunting

1971-S Silver Proof IKE

Trying to get a few pics for Cody Friends, I had a group of Ikes that sold a year or more ago. I held onto a couple as I thought they might be a little different. Although I don't remember the extent of knowledge at the time I had on those as varieties. May have been type 1 reverse and I didn't even know. Well this is a type 2 rev with no islands cropped and you can't tell which it is. I was trying to get the double die pic but this seems more like a quad die than a double. Enjoy Ric

Registry points and values

Will the real value please stand up. I recently wrote about my registry points and collection value falling through the floor. I also, recently. responded to a comment in a recent journal conversation, it follows: Well, I still have some more work to do [on my registry]. Guess I sent off some of the wrong coins and kept some here. So I deleted the three I left here, sent them off today and have not added back in the three I sent by mistake. Not sure what they are. Also, have not totally

Life of a BrokeCoinCollector Volume 2

Life of a BrokeCoinCollector Volume 2 Well I would say it has been a good coining month since my last journal. Can't say good in the terms of what the coins are worth. Had some car troubles and bought some parts for my truck. Those cut into my coining but oh well it happens. First off....Happy 30th B-Day to me!!!!! (Feb 17TH). Yep the big 30. Woke up that day and was a little scared to stand up....Will my whole body ache.....will my old bones give under the weight??? Nope.....Guess getting o

Flaws With Registry Points

I recently decided to try and add the 283 silver world coins I have in my custom set (THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION) to competitive sets so I could get registry points for them and see how I rank amongst other collectors. After going through each coin, I wasnt able to find a spot in any competitive set for 1/4 of my coins (73 silver coins). I did however end up ranking at #1595 but would be much higher if I could receive points for all of my coins. I really wish there was a way to receive

Just Gotta Smile

It seems like a bargain now. I am currently in the middle of what was planned to be a few month long slow period, as I prepare for Part 3 of the Gardner Collection sale in May. But of course I am still looking, because there may be good opportunities at any time, and the stuff I might consider from the Gardner coins may end up too expensive. But in an effort to save money just in case, I have been looking more at less expensive half dimes in the AU to low MS range as temporary hole fillers an

NGC Plaque and Dealing With Local Dealers

I was pleasantly surprised to receive a very nice NGC plaque this week in recognition of my NGC Award for 2014 (Most informative Custom Set). The registry, the registry awards and plaques of recognition just make the hobby all the more fun and I applaud NGC for providing us collectors these things for our hobby! I've put a lot of time into my custom set and have added about 50 new world silver coins to the set since the award (283 total world silver coins from 65 different countries). Today I

New Scores for my Symphony Set

Pun intended. Back in 2012 my custom Symphony Set won NGC's Most Creative award. Thanks NGC! The Symphony Set is a collection of world and US coins and tokens that include musical elements or themes, from composers to instruments to sheet music. I haven't added to it in three years as I was away from coins while moving across the country and selling my business. But now that I'm back I have added a number of new coins to the Symphony Set, and I re-imaged the entire set last week. So I thou

Time to tidey up the registry. I got quite a suprise in the mail yesterday. My first Journal Award. I have no idea how they made this mistake and sent it to me, but I am not going to say anything lest they ask for it back. I am slowly becoming a real collector as my stash has grown by adding almost anything put in front of me like a man starving man at a banquet. I had my collection all over the place since then not having any real focus. Coins came and went like some sort of train statio

I Feel Your Pain

Jackson I'm sorry about the loss of that very attractive 1947-D Walker, I know how you feel. I just recently fell prey to the "snooze ya loose" syndrome. I was eying an AU-53 1830 large cent for my type collection on a dealer's web site. The coin had great surfaces, a very strong strike, and for the life of me, I couldn't identify the rub that warranted an AU-53 grade. There was one draw back though and I hesitated. Asking for clarification to a small mark on the coins obverse I sent an e-mail

Coin Shopping

Good evening, everyone. It was a long day today, so I'm going to go to bed earlier than normal. I read from The Numismatist for a little bit and I decided to see if I could find any bargains on Ebay using the Ending Soonest search. I find it enjoyable to see coins that will go into my collection and to take a one shot stab at them. My budget is a little tight right now, so I win some, I lose some. I see a lot of other coins that I would love to have, but I have fun.   Happy collecting.

Heartbreaking Disappointment

I'll remember losing this one for a while..... Over the years there have been about a half dozen times that I let a coin slip away that I really regret. One that always comes to mind is a 1934-D Walker that had a really full strike for the date. It had a complete separation of face/hair/hat as compared to the usual weakness and flatness in that area. On top of it, it also had a nice satiny luster and soft minty tone--still wish I had gone ahead and bid over book on that one. You see, the cost

Coin vs. labels

How about last day of issue ? I notice that the ATB clad quarters 1st day of issue coins are receiving a higher point value than other PF 70's. Isn't a PF 70 regardless of when minted the same as any other PF 70 ? If not, then why not last day issued ? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
