NGC HAS THE SETS AND I HAVE SOME COINS
With the newest 2015 Marshall's 225th Commemorative issues out. I see no slots for them. It is a 6 coin set, and no slots. There are 2 halves, 2 one dollar, and 2 gold. No spot for all six together either?

Number 1 of my top 10 rare coins... in no particular order.
I have previously posted about how freely the word RARE is used about particular coins when they come to auction. To me if there are 20 examples of a particular (rare) coin in a single auction it really begs the question: How do they define rare? One of the most glaring examples of this is also a coin many of us dreamed of owning as a kid and a few of us were lucky enough to find in pocket change: The 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent.

WHAT WOULD YOU CALL THIS?
I have shown this cent before. Still, I like looking at it every now and then. Still trying to figure out just what happened to it and if it deserves a better look by NGC. Give me your thoughts everyone.

Post your Lincoln cents!
Today is Lincoln's birthday and I just picked up a great 1955 Doubled Die for my collection. This particular example is graded MS 63 RB by NGC.
It's estimated about 24,000 of these error coins made it out of the mint (40,000 were produced, but 16,000 were destroyed once the error was discovered). The error coins were found in circulating change by the end of the year, initially in upstate New York and Boston.
A number of those '55 doubled die cents were found in ci
Overdate Discovered
I recently bought a PCGS graded 1923 Belgian Congo 50 Centimes (Flemish version) that was graded MS64. The grade looked right. But within seconds of looking at this coin with a loupe I noticed that it was an overdate of 1923/2, which was not listed in KM. The overdate was easy to spot so I looked the coin up in a Belgian reference book that I have and noticed that the overdate is known to them.
I resubmitted this coin to PCGS and they corrected the date. I was sure to
So many coins when offered at auction (especially daily coins) are touted as being Rare... Scarce... Low Mintage and the verbiage goes on. Most of these are not even close to being rare.
I have given thought to writing in article about my top 10 rare United States coins. I'm not talking about this 1792 half disme, or the 1796 no stars $2-1/2 gold piece, these coins are ones that I will never be able to afford.

Any value
Just looked at my 2015 quarters proof set, one is missing a coin a mint error or not?

For several months I had been toying with the idea of buying a Morgan Dollar coin clock offered by a seller named CoinClocks. Just recently, I finally broke down and pulled the trigger on it.
As a collector of Morgan Dollars and an admirer of the design, I was naturally drawn to this clock that features the obverse of the coin as its face. Furthermore, this clock has an "Old West" look and feel to it much as the coin did 122+ years ago. (The date on the clock is 1893). Encircling the image of
Always looking for mint package trades!!
Friends,
As I help many collectors locally add to their government issue mint and proof set collections I run out quickly. There are many locals here that do not collect 3rd party slabs but like to build collections in mint packaging.
I am always looking to trade my graded slabs for any mint packaged material available. If I have a few coins you like and you have some raw stuff in a box ---- Give me a shout!!
Here is one of my February additions
The discovery of the prototype reverse was made in February of 2005, to celebrate I recently purchased this second high-grade example.
Who would have thought that free dollar coins given away inside boxes of Cheerios would later sell for over $20,000 each at auction?
In 2000, the US Mint was scheduled to release a new dollar coin. After failed attempts in the past, the Mint was set on promoting and distributing the new "golden" Sacagawea dollars as widely as possible. One such promotional de
MINT AND IT'S DELIVERIES??
Hi, Today my 2014 D Sacagawea enhanced dollars are due to arrive. It has been over 2 months since I placed my order for them. This is contrast to the US Marshalls silver dollar that I ordered on Thursday at the opening. My receipt was printed at :02 after the hour. On Friday they said they were shipped and I received them on this past Monday. Had all the paperwork and box for shipping ready, mailed them and NGC got them on Wednesday. Two totally different scena
Another dream dashed...
The other day I posted about one of my new half dimes, an 1841-O, the die variety of which is not listed in the available reference books. Last night I spent some time on the Heritage website looking at their photos of other examples of the issue.
The result is that the die variety of my coin is probably not rare. Of the dozens of coins available to view, it looked to me like four varieties are reasonably common, including mine. Multiple die states are apparent as we
One tough one left.
I recently bought one of the last of the 1965 10 Francs Essai coins that was struck in silver and just had it graded and it is now graded NGC MS64. I found it in a London auction. I have the aluminum version NGC MS66, copper-nickel version NGC MS64, and a copper uniface Die Trial NGC MS65BN. So the last piece left is one struck in gold, which is listed in Krause, but I have never seen or heard of one existing in the many years that I have been collecting this series. Th
I'm not sure why I didn't notice this before.
The world of Early American Copper has many collectors pursuing not just types or dates, but specific die marriages and even die states for their collections. They have excellent reference books to help identify those varieties. Examples of very rare varieties can fetch many times the price of more common varieties.
My date set of middle and late dates (1816-1857) was completed a few years ago. While I was working on it, I paid attention to vari
1958 Proof Set
Today I achieved a goal that has taken me 3 years to realize! I added the attached coin to my 1958 Proof set and snuck into the top 10 for that set! My main priority is coins with eye appeal and coins that are a good bargain (sometimes hard to get both!). This coin was bought from Mr. Tomaska and it is a beauty in hand and in the photo. Thanks to all my coin friends out there that have helped me reach this goal and thanks for putting up with all the questions I've

The Long Beach Convention Auction Sale of August 8, 1975 (Paramount International Coin Corporation), sold the collection of the estate of a mintmaster that consisted of 492 specimens from around the world. This mintmaster is considered to have been the one of the Heaton Birmingham Mint in England. The proof specimens sold at this sale, looked like they had been put away the day they had been struck and this is exactly what happened. The cata
A true modern rarity! I have been searching for this coin in a high grade for nearly 5 years!
For the past five years or so, I have been searching for this coin in a high grade. One was available at the Torex auction in MS62, but ended up selling for over $5000. The 1955 No Shoulder Fold Canada 1 Cent coin is truly a rare coin, and is the key for the 1953 - 2012 1 cent set. Only very rarely does this coin come up for auction, and they are usually in VF condition.
I was very lucky to acqu
FELL INTO THIS ONE...
Seemed kinda funny to me. I was digging around in the Registry set listings yesterday when I notice some cent listings and a couple of dollar and type set listings that for some reason (?) I haven't been collecting. I created a Native American reverse set and after adding all the available coins, I checked my ranking-#1! Cracked me up! Guess I fell into that one...

A nice heads up from a fellow member
I have always enjoyed the hunt for a coin. Whether it is a high grade coin, a low mintage issue or just some variety for a themed set, the hunt ( and find, of course)has always been a large part of the enjoyment in the hobby for me.
I have had a recent find for a long sought issue for my mercury dime set--I'm in the process of offer/counteroffer right now but if all goes well I'll have located an affordable example of one of my top 5 wantlist coins.

...2250 in total...Opened up the safe. I began investigating online as to some values and grading systems. Wow, there's a lot of information out there! Not a single coin in my collection has seen the light of day in over forty years. Only I have touched them to sort them out. Not one has been cleaned; probably ever... Over the last month or so, I have looked through and found some unique pieces. I guess
I purchased this coin in 2012, paying a bit of a premium over other 1909 VDBs at the time, but I believe it to be a premium coin.
A year later I began selling some of my collection as an unexpected move across the country and a new home purchase needed financing. When my friend Brandon (brg5658) heard I was listing some of my coins, he immediately made me an offer for this VDB, as he had seen it in hand to photograph it and had complimented the coin on a few occasions.
I sold it to him at th
