ERRORS?
I recently sent two of my coins in for error certification and was very disappointed with the way NGC graded them. The first received details grading ( was graded in an ICG holder originally wanted in a NGC holder) NGC certification #2692048-011. ICG had it as an MS68 (no detail grading although NGC gave it a detail grading). The second has a struck thru wire on liberty neck came directly out of a mint capsule ( NGC didn't even acknowledge that it was struck thru even though had paid m

Here is a near pristine example of a 1771 proof farthing. The irreregular strike around the rim is typical of these pieces.

Turn around time at NGC
Do you really think NGC and PCGS actually takes us small fry in turn when Mr. Tomaska or any other TV customer sends in hundreds or thousands to be graded? I watch My submissions languish in finalized and shipped for 14 days. Each time I call to track I am told they have been mailed but the tracking number is invalid?.......... Daniel IN mf OREGON

for my niece and nephew.
A few weeks ago I met my brother and his kids during their annual visit from Washington. I decided that it was finally time to give my brother the P&D Jefferson Dollars that I'd been keeping to give to my niece at some point. The coins were released from the mint within a week of her birth years ago because they're First Day of Issues.
She isn't old enough yet to have them. She's only about 9. Still. I thought I'd give them to my brother and let him decide when t
1717 proof farthing
Here is an example of a 1717 proof farthing, formerly of the Cooke Collection, the most complete collection of farthings ever assembled. A tiny quantity of these were produced, well under a hundred and probably closer to 10. The master of the Mint at the time was Sir Isaac Newton, who was, when he wasnt on his day job at the Mint, formulated Newtonian physics. Given that position, it is highly likely that he personally handled this piece.

Ceremony day rolls
Has anyone been to the ceremonies for the National Parks quarters. If so, are the rolls of quarters they sell for face at the ceremonies the collector rolls from the mint or are they just regular rolls anyone can get at the banks the same day?

1849 Florin
Here is an example of a one year British type, an 1849 florin.
I think it is one of the more beautiful designs in the British series. this piece comes from the Terner Collection and has been cross graded to NGC as an Ms 65.

Other things taking up my coin budget
Good evening, everyone. It's been awhile since I posted on here. I am surprising my wife with a Mediterranean cruise next year. I am telling her about it at Christmas, so wish me luck in not letting the secret slip.
Because of that, I have not purchased any coins in the last couple of months. But, I am breaking my hiatus to go to the Whitman show in Baltimore on Friday, since my vacation happened to fall the week of the show. Pure dumb luck.

Turn around?
So, I am (somewhat) back from a 2 year lay-off from collecting. Before I took the break I had been sending in submissions for grading to NGC for about 6 years. But after endless problems with the whole process I couldn't take it any more. Whether it was a mis-label or over charging for the service or a coin bouncing around in its holder or orders held up because the "professionals" couldn't tell the difference between a regular British pound coin and a pieford British pound or on

Venezuela bound 1835 Large Cents
By now most large cent collectors have herd something like half the 18 varieties of 1835 cent Newcomb die numbers are difficult to find. The chief suspect was Venezula. In R.W. Julian's story titled "Venezuela first to circulate U.S. coins", posted to numismaticnews.net on August 23, 2011; "In early 1835, through its New York consul, the Government of Venezuela asked Mint Director Samuel Moore if 100,000 U.S. copper cents could be obtained for shipment to th
Mint State Cob
I am pleased to announce my latest early Latin American coin. It is a Bolivia 1686 P VR 1 Real 2.9 grams NGC MS63. There are no other Bolivian coins of the type approaching the condition of this magnificent Potosi mint Charles II Cob. This coin is also approaching a round shape with the date, mintmark, and assayer initials all struck up and sharply defined. To find a mint state silver cob of any series is quite amazing.

George VI Proof and Specimen florins
I have added a recently purchased 1943 VIP Proof florin to this set. The 1937 Proof florin, part of a Coronation Proof Set, is relatively common. this piece is not, with well under 100 ever made, perhaps more like 20.

Have you been watching the hikes lately
Friends;
Last week there was a good offer in chat boards on SILVER!! I put a bid in on Saturday morning at $205 for 13+ oz. that Jackson had for sale bid. I won it at $198.
Yes my weekend went very well. Now keeping an eye on Silver I watch the value climb daily. Paying a little over $15 oz. last Saturday and now worth $20+ an oz. this week is a great sign. I am going to hold out for $40 and sell all I have stashed up ----
