The start of my collecting bug...

I am always reading how those shows on the Home Shopping channels are a rip-off and that they are no good for the hobby. I hate to say it, but if it wasn?t for that channel, I probably wouldn?t be hooked on the hobby today. re: Winters Collecting

That's a great story...... I like to buy morgans, graded, ungraded, circulated until the rim is gone, cleaned, rim dings and I even have one thats bent. The fact is that I just love having them, looking at them and showing them to people. It's a lot of fun to give a cleaned 1889-o to someone who really isn't in to coins. You get to see that spark that got you started into this. I buy silver eagles in holders for the kids around this time of year. Not an expensive gift but one that in so

Too Much Controversy

Should NGC change the Registry Awards Criteria? I am one of those who has some 100% PCGS sets in the NGC Registry. Even though I agree that I should have some NGC coins in the set, according to NGC, it is not necessary for me to have any. I am looking for some NGC coin upgrades but those available will be few and far between. I started with PCGS and I have been quite pleased. From all the articles I have read over the last several months, I have come to the conclusion that, if NGC is more cons

NGC vs PCGS

My thoughts on the current topic of solely PCGS sets being listed. When I first started collecting coins someone said to me to buy only NGC or PCGS graded coins. That piece of advice has served me well over the years. I know some people like only one or the other company exclusively. I think they both do a fine job but can't understand why PCGS coins sell at higher premiums than does NGC's. Are PCGS graded coins better coins? Are PCGS grading standards higher? If they are than why is it that N

NGC vs PCGS Since I like to collect pedigree coins, I have to collect both NGC and PCGS. I perfer NGC and do not understand why PCGS won't allow NGC in their registry!

1856 Gold Dollar Indian Princess Slanted 5

Absolute exquisite coin pendant. This has a wreath on the back and the number 5 is I think what might be called slanted. It has a slope like shape on 5. I love to wear this every now and then. One of patients gave it to me as a gift. I have kept this a long time it in a dry area and it has kept its gold tint. I never see anyone wearing this nice coin.12-23-2005

PCGS vs. NGC

From a relatively inexperienced collector's perspective I think NGC has it right. Considering NGC wants people to join the collector's society, they open themselves to a broader, more competitive, group of coin collectors. Yeah, I don't like the fact the PCGS holders are different size, the fact some PCGS coins are more marketable than NGC, or that PGCS owners don't scan and describe their coins. There are also a lot of people with PCGS coins that probably feel the same way about other NG

The photo process

How I photograph my coins I am not a professional photographer, however, I have always loved photography and also consider it a terrific hobby. I realize that many people do not have the time or money to invest in good equipment, but for me it is just another extension of my coin hobby. Documenting my collection has been a very enjoyable process. I can now keep my collection in the safe at the bank, yet pull out my photos and enjoy my collection any time. I feel a little responsible for the hostilities....

So... I will jump right on in... Last week I made a posting titled "Say Cheese Please" simply asking my fellow (and fellowette (trying to be politically correct)) collectors to image their treasures and share thier stories of their collections. While several others have either email me personally (imzadissir@aol.com) or made additional journal posting stating they have added more images/stories, it would also seem as though I sparked other conversations regarding the inclusion of PCGS coins a
