THINGS COULDN'T BE BETTER OR COULD THEY

REMERBERING GOOD TIMES, LIVING BETTER TIMES, LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BEST OF TIMES. Greetings Fellow Coin Aficionados: What a wonderful beginning to the year 2011!!! I finally met my goal of removing all the modern coins from my sets at least most of them, there are however a few I will be keeping for now, a few $5 MS70 gold commems, my $5 2008 baby Buffalo also MS70 and of course the Proof 70 $1 silver World War II Commem. I have lowered the number of my coins and at the same time increased th

My new TURKEYS have arived

This is the 2nd 100%%%% this week Friends I was overjoyed as I loaded the new coins in my Silver Eagle set. Pulling them up one by one out of their NGC boxes to download into the set. All the slabs in pristine condition as if nobody has ever touched them. Todd sure took great care of them. At the end of the 2 NGC boxes of MS Eagles was 1 extra = 1986 PF69UC a gift from Todd that will be very appreciated and added to the other proof I have = 2006w (my new mini set PF-UC. My new set still has

1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel

Even nicer than I thought! I've been looking for a nice example of the Type 1 1913 Nickel for a couple months. I passed up several on Teletrade because they were either out of my price range or I just didn't like the way they looked (I wanted a full-struck date, especially the leading "1"). I found one last week well within my price range, and still graded at PCGS MS65. Upon requesting some clearer and close-up pictures, I decided to pull the trigger. It came today, and it's beautiful by a

Got another upgrade from Teletrade Good evening All, Just won another coin at Teletrade. Placed a bid on a 1989S ASE PF70UC. Did not really think I would get it as my bid was fairly low. I placed a bid on a Roosevelt dime in the last auction and figured I had a good chance at getting it. Waited and finally it turned out that I did not get it. During the next month my goal is to attain #5 in both of my Roosevelt sets. I have been spending allot of time looking and hunting for upgrades in my

America the Beautiful Quarters and set proliferation...

Why not collect something that's so affordable? Good Evening all and hope your day was filled with coin collecting pleasure. The mail lady brought lots of coins today including my next two additions to my ATB quarters the silver and clad versions of the Hot Springs. At first I didn't think that I would be interested in these and especially not proofs, but the more I thought about it and the more I saw the decent price point you could pick up proof 70's the more I couldn't resist. WHO COLLECTS JUST ONE THING??

I know of no one. I just need to get a handle on the things I do collect... Greetings Collectors, I've been busy of late as I lost my dad a couple weeks ago and there has been much to do. Even when one knows that old people (or young people) especially one who has been so sick for a couple of years, will not live forever, you're never ready when that day comes. I'm unsure of what the subconscious is thinking when the thoughts of what else can be done to prolong life even when you know the en

How Bout that for Customer Service!

A short one this time. A few hours ago I sent an e-mail to NGC's customer service asking them to add the 2011 slot for silver uncirculated British Britannias. So when I opened my CS page a few minutes ago, I found that the slot had been added! Now how's that for customer service! Thanks NGC! Gary To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. One voice counts!

Sometimes, when we are faced with a corporation, we tend to wonder, "I'm just one man, does my opinion matter to them?". For NGC that's certainly the case! Recent acquisition of mine, as seen in the picture below, had some issues with database and that's how it began... 4 (working)days ago I requested the data to be repaired, and added to it's appropriate set "Republic of Poland, 2 Zlote, 1994-Date, Complete Set". Somewhere along the line it hit me... those coins come in 2 types, Comme

Postman always rings twice (or three times?)

Tag, you're it! After playing a game of cat-and-mouse with the postman for the past 3 days, I finally received my Buffalo Nickel. As many of you know, Teletrade purchases are delivered with signature confirmation. While I really appreciate this peace of mind, sometimes it is difficult to get your items. Where I live, most people work from 730 to 530, or some similar work schedule. The post office is opened from 830 to 530. So the game goes: (1) the postman drops off a slip saying my pack

Westward Journey Circulated Registry Set Hi Everyone, First off, I must start by giving thanks to a very helpful lady at NGC. I would put in her name, but I"m afraid I would really mis-spell her name, but she knows who she is. Anyway, I had called a few weeks ago to inquire if a Westward Journey Nickel circulation and proof sets could be added to the registry. Well, today, while I was out doing my errands, my cell phone rang. It was this very helpful lady calling to let me know the circulati

MY PR69 DCAM Sacajawia Dollars are completely up to date

PAID FOR 3 BUT RECEIVED 5 Friends, I recently asked a friend in the society if he had any PR69 DCAM Sacajawea Dollars extra for sale, I needed 5. I got a return e-mail offering me 3 coins at a fair price, so I sent the check.   I had honestly forgotten the purchase with all the other things going on right now. I went up to my office and opened the box and COOL he finished my set for me. This is the first set I have ever had listed at 100%%%%%%. THANKS-NAMVETTE68 for the extra coins.

OK, who took my coins ?????

Missing since Jan. 12 Greetings once again from IL. I guess I should explain my title. I have a standing subscription with the mint as many here for various coins, set's etc. Well my 2011 proof set was shipped but never arrived ....... After filing "paper work" and after a just placed call to the mint I am still in limbo. So I will "wait" until such time as they arrive. bummer !!!!! On another note. Bicentennial coinage

Loving my new 1976-D MS67 Clad Quarter There has always been something about the bicentennial quarters that caught my eye. As a kid, I would always pull them from circulation because they looked different. I probably had $40 worth of 1776-1976 quarters separated out in a Tupperware container by the time I graduated from high school. I just thought they were "cool" and they must be inherently more rare than all of the eagle-reverse quarters out there. As I've gotten older, these quarters a

A Strategic Blunder

Or how I lost out on a good deal by failing to launch. I had a hundred dollars burning a hole in my pocket so I navigated over to Ebay and decided to pick up a Washington Carver half for my registry set. I spotted a 53-S, NGC MS65, W/C with about 10 minutes to go and a very low bid in comparison to its value. I decided to wait it out and see if I could grab it for 45.00 or so. The clocked ticked down to 10 seconds, I hit SEND on my 45.00 bid and VOILA, I had forgotten to actually log into

One more purchase for February

I just can't say NO!!! Friends, It's been another great coin month in my world. I have managed to fully purchase my new MS Silver Eagle set that has a few MS70 Early Releases including the 2008w rev 2007. I purchased the 2011 ER MS70 the 1st of the month to pop the set up when I receive it. I will be grinning ear to ear when the set shows up this week. I also acquired a president set mostly First Day issues MS66 & 67 that only needs the last 6 coins purchased to be up to date. This set s

Too Good to Let Pass Up

Rarely does the opportunity to own a coin with a population of one and none higher realistically come my way. When it does, even though the coin goes beyond my established goals, I must seize upon that opportunity because it may never present itself again. Last week I received an E-mail notice for a 1932 MS-66 Netherlands 10 Gulden gold coin up for auction on E-Bay. I immediately placed the coin on my watch list with the original intention of monitoring it for the closing price. I do this quit

NGC grading in Poland..

Recent new arrivals gave me a pause to think about the grading... Originally I wanted to cover both arrivals and grading issues in this journal, but let's take it one step at a time. Here, in Poland we have only one authorized dealer, and with about ten thousand miles of red tape involved with sending coins 50 or more years old abroad by private person (company/institution is not so much bound in red tape...) it makes it impractical to make direct submission... Most of You will probably cl

Two beautiful satins came today! This will be a short but sweet journal. I wasn't sure if the mail was ever going to come today, but the postman finally showed up at 5:45pm. I got two new MS69 satin finish beauties for my 21st Century Type Set. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. The obverse pics are below. SUSAN B. ANTHONY'S

Started a Registry Set I know that not to many people collect these, so I thought I would try to build a set with no grade lower than MS67. Who knows in 25 yrs. what they might be worth, gonna give them to my son(who is 28) and tell him no matter what he has to keep them at least 25 yrs. Started on the 21st of this month, so far I have the 79P Wide Rim,79D, 80P, 80D, 81P,99D and also got one of the 99P MS66PL(there's only 2). Hoping to have 10 of them by the end of March. Good luck to everyone

The Thrill of 70 or the Agony of Declean.

Cleaned coins I recently sent in 4 coins all Washington Quarters (1932D, 1932S, 1932S, and 1936D). I suspected one coin of being cleaned but not all of them. All came back details graded. 3 XF details and 1 AU Details with 3 Improperly Cleaned and 1 OBV Scratch. Guess I need to learn how to spot a cleaned coin before I buy them and send them off to be graded. Any tips on spotting cleaned coins? I have a 30X21 loupe as well as a Dinolite Microscope and am waiting to get these back so I can

Registry Collecting - Expensive or Enjoyable?

Which E will it be... I'll be honest and say that when slabs first gained momentum I was a naysayer. I believed that the 10 MS grades were largely indistinguishable and that third party grading was just a way to get more money for especially key date coins and ultra grades. What I didn't realize was that buying raw coins without an "education" was and still is an official warrant to rip off. It's like wearing a big sign on your back - "I don't have a clue what I'm doing, so it's OK to sock it
