  1. Very true. Everytime I look a coin up on google the first thing pops up is listings for common coins worth face value priced for thousands of dollars. Recently my sisters stepson found a quarter from the seventies while metal detecting. He was telling me how he found a coin worth $10,000 dollars. He showed it to me and I told him it was only worth 25 cents. Then he argued with me and showed me one like it on Etsy someone had priced for $10,000. I had to explain the reality to him and showed him the red book values and told him just because some insufficiently_thoughtful_person post one on line for sale at some crazy price dosent mean thats what its worth. He was a little torn up where he had high hopes. Websites like Etsy and others need to start doing something and start taking those listings down. I know they wont. Best thing we can do is try and educate people. Most people are smart enough not to pay that kind of money before they do a little researching first but Im sure theres one or two out there somewhere who fell for them. Especially the ones with machine doubling bragged up as rare doubled dies.
  2. It was hard to capture it in a pic. I had to turn it sideways. Still hard to tell by the pictures. Its very crooked. Each end almost touches the plastic. Someone may have put it in that way. Or it could have been thrown around. Its still inside the fingers luckily. In hand you can see its very crooked.
  3. Im gonna say MS65. Just from what I can tell by the pictures. Im not the greatest but these post like this are very educational for me. Helps me learn how different coins are graded from each other.
  4. The ones that are for sale for hundreds are in high mint state grades. Worn ones are only worth close to face value. The one you have has been heavily circulated. They are very common in this condition. Only worth around face value. Still be a nice coin for an album. Im not the greatest at guessing grades but Id say this one is probably fine condition.
  5. Everyone gave their opinion. You got the wrong kind of scale. The coin is zinc and not copper. The coin is a very slight misaligned die that is very common and adds no value. The coin is worth 1 cent. What else do you want to know about it? What are we missing?
  6. Thats was longest run on sentance Ive ever seen in my life. Took me a while to decipher it. Most of it anyways.
  7. It will also help us to help you out if you put a period or two in there every once in a while. Im not trying to be mean or nothing but I had to read that 4 times to try and figure out what your trying to ask help on. Its very hard for us to read. We can help you better if we can read it.
  8. I agree with @Lem E on the mis aligned die. If you start doing very much roll hunting you will start finding several of those. They are very common like he said. Also once you get a little more experienced you will be able to tell if a coin is zinc or copper just by the look of it without having to look at the date to tell the difference. Before I read your post as soon as I seen the coin In the picture I knew it was a zinc cent worth only 1 cent. You will be able to also as you grow more into the hobby and learn what to look for. Dont let it discourage you. Its fun to roll hunt and look for more common varieties but I wouldnt get my hopes up on finding a major transitional error. Those are like 1 in a billion odds. This hobby is definately not a hobby to get into if you want to get rich. You can still have alot of fun searching for W quarters, die clashes, and things like that. Also putting sets together is fun. Like full sets of the state quarters, etc. Its actually a hobby that will have you spending alot of money if your not careful. Very addictive collecting.
  9. Ive seen a few while browsing on Ebay that had been rotated quite a bit. Must be a pretty loose fit on some of them. Ive also got a half cent that has fell forward and is almost touching the slab.
  10. Peoples probably tired of hearing it from me but Im gonna say it again. I put alot of the blame on these You Tube videos telling people to check their pocket change. A few other sources also. Telling people they can be found. When in reality Id take my chances on hitting the powerball. Ive actually seen some of those videos before urging people to check their pocket change and listing the unicorns to look for to become a millionare. Im not saying that you shouldnt check your change. I always search mine for different things. Ive found a couple cool minor die clashes over the past few years in my change. Nothing special but I dont expect to find anything special. The point Im trying to make is these videos are getting peoples hopes up. Actually making them think its possible to run down to the 7-11 and get one back tomorrow. I know people like to dream, but you also need to learn to accept reality at the same time.
  11. I noticed that. The reverse is light golden colored and the obverse is blast white. The half dollar is starting to tone around the rim as well.
  12. Im still thinking these were done intentionally. Some kind of incuse punch or another coin. You can clearly see the flat area around the extra star. In the new picture it kind of looks like it was tooled on. Some kind of tool scratched back and forth in that area. Looks like it to me anyways. They are out of line of the other stars as well. My vote goes for damage. I could be wrong but Id have to see some hard evidence to change my mind.
  13. Sounds like if its happening at the mint then one of the workers is fooling around doing it intentionally. I dont see how the machinery could do that to the coin. Espically where its raised and supposed to be incuse. You can clearly tell thats raised. Show us pics of all these other coins and it may help us determine whats going on. Being so many found in one roll just further helps the case that it was done intentionally. Because when they are struck and fall into those bins they are being bounced around and getting all mixed up. I think someone at the mint or the people who wrapped them done it intentionally. If they did then its damage and not an error. Be nice to see some pictures of the other coins. Im one the see it to believe it type of people.
  14. That is absolutely stunning!!! Ive been wanting one of these so bad I cant stand it. Ever since Ive read the history behind them. That one is one of the best Ive seen. Im eventually gonna get one. Theres no way ill ever be able to get one that nice but Im definately gonna get one some how some way. Ive seen worn out ones at fairly affordable prices but Im gonna try save up and get one where you can see all the detail in it.
  15. Id say xf 45 to AU50. I enjoy these guess the grades. Lovely piece. With that die crack Id name it "Wounded Liberty." Just kidding. Everyone knows how I feel about those kind of names. That is a very nice die crack. Maybe "Wounded 7" would fit better. For those who dont get it Im being sarcastic. Couldnt resist. All jokes aside that is a very lovely dime. Ive got one on my wish list. Ive always wanted to add one to my collection. Very nice @ldhair
  16. The old lady said if I would buy her some curtains for Valentines day that she would buy me a coin. She got me this one. PCGS MS64 FL
  17. I think you can send the coin to Wexler. If its not attributed they will attribute it for you with a new FS number. Then most the time ANACS will slab it as a discovery coin if you send your paper work in with it you get back from having it attributed. Ive read about this on another forum before. I think there is a couple different places you can send it but I think most use Wexler from my understanding. Nice find tj96.
  18. I agree its a magicians coin. Sending it in to have authenicated would be a good way to make your money disappear. Not only do you have the grading fee but theres other fees on top that for insurance, shipping, etc. The last time I had a coin graded it costed close to $80. They will ship it back to you without a slab holder and a tag that says not genuine. They will still keep your money. Wether it grades or not you still have to pay for their service because the graders working there have to take time to examine them.
  19. Ive not got a thing aginst people collecting errors. Im happy for them if thats what they want to do. Its just a big turn off to me seeing all these little cutsie names given to common die cracks and things. Its all over You Tube videos and other places that spew hype to new collectors. Then when a new collector finds a flaw themselves they instantly want to name it. Now just because a die crack touches one of the devices its suddenly a spitter or a wounded victim and is suddenly selling for $1000 on Ebay. And other new collectors pay those high premiums and get taken advantage of because they think that coin is special where its been hyped up because its been named. Then another You Tube site like Couch Collectables who follow those Ebay sales brag that one those sold for x amount of dollars and gets more newbies looking for stuff like that and the process just keep repeating itself. Everytime one these little minor defects gets discovered there it goes again with another cutsie name that makes people who dont know any better think its something special. All I see when I see those is a worn out die thats starting to give out and starts cracking. I cant stand those minor die chip booger noses and other sorts like that neither. Im not telling people not to collect them. Im just speaking entirely my opinion. Collect whatever makes you happy. Its just a big turn off for me when I see some crazy little name given to every little defect. Personally myself I like to collect the nicest condition coins I can afford. I try to find coins that dont have those flaws if I can find them. Seems either quality control keeps getting worse or the You Tube video hype is getting newer collectors believing this junk is something special. Im blaming the internet sites such as Etsy, You Tube, and others.
  20. Special finish. Still in ogp with the half dollar and 2 dollar bill.
  21. I finally got that 43 in hand. It looks even better in hand than the pics. Its a nice quarter.
  22. Thats probably alot to do with it. Or twisting my ear and leading me around.
  23. Very nice. I love it. This thread is proof that patience is highly rewarded. Congratulations on a very beautiful half cent.
  24. Maybe just a little gray toning. Im starting to get a little gray toning myself. Espically in the beard. Must be enviormental conditions.
