  1. I need to have one done. Ive never had one and I just hit 40. If my brother in law had had one he may not be sitting and waiting to die at any day now at 45 years old. He was in his 30s when he first found out. Been nice if they coulda found it early enough to do something bout it.
  2. Old Hoopster sure led a interesting life. Thanks for sharing his obituary @AdamWL. I really enjoyed talking to him on here. Wish he wouldve stayed around. He shared some productive post on here.
  3. My dad died at 60 years old in 2019. Thats awful young. He had sugar real bad and wouldnt give his legs up. He done lost half his feet on both sides. It resulted in a massive heart attack. Seems like alot of people are passing away at young ages here lately. Im also about to lose a brother in law any day now. Hes on hospice right now. Nothing else they can do for him. 45 years old. Its colon cancer also.
  4. Very true. Ive been roll hunting for 4 years now quite often and Ive only found 5 coins that would be considered errors OR varities. Ive found 3 die clashed quarters. And Ive found 2 true doubled die coins. 1 quarter and 1 cent. And thousands of damaged coins like the ones that get posted on this forum on a daily basis. Not counting the hundreds of die chips and cracks. I have no intrest at all in those unless its something spectacular. Like a major cud or shattered die. All these crippled eagles and spitting buffalos and things like that intrest me none in the very least. I guess all these cute names have turned me aginst them. Thats all you see anymore. Everytime someone finds a die crack they give it some kind of dumb name. I guess if people like them thats great and Im happy for them. Not gonna tell people what to collect but its not my thing. But those good errors are not that common. The newer collectors need to learn theres way more damage than there are errors.
  5. Looks like corrosion. Ive used acetone before to remove gunk on coins just to find corrosion beneath it. Copper is very bad for it. Usually leaves green and blue looking specks.
  6. So did I. I thought @Sandon was starting to lose it there for a minute until I saw his second post. I thought that was an awful funny looking 1991 D cent.
  7. I really hate to hear that. He would send me a PM every once in a while. He told me he was sick but I didnt realize he was that bad. I liked talking to the ole feller. Hate to hear he passed on. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
  8. I agree with Bobby. You can see the metal where it was hit and pushed over to the side. Post mint damage.
  9. It would cost more than those would be worth to have graded. You could buy a nicer example already slabbed cheaper than what those would cost. By time you pay shipping and insurance and everything. They wouldnt grade high enough to justify the cost.
  10. Sorry to do this. Done shared this on a couple other threads already but here she is again. I couldnt resist. First time in this thread though. @Coinbuf set me up for it.
  11. These 1943 coppers have been counterfeited for years and years. The counterfeiters are very good at getting the weight accurate. If you look at certain things on the coin you can tell its a counterfeit. If you look at the picture of the steel cent Greenstang posted and compare it with yours you can tell it wasnt struck with the same die. The back of the neck is a dead giveaway. Even though they are two different metals if they were struck with the same die they would have the same features. There are just a very very small amount of legit copper 43 cents and millions upon millions of counterfeits. Youd have a better chance at hitting the powerball than finding a legit 43 copper. Thats why they are so valuable.
  12. With a little bit of luck I was able to add one of @erwindoc lovely quarters to my set. Very cool to now have one from the #1 Cherry Tree Collection set in my set now. Or soon will. Not got it in hand yet. I really like this one. There was a few I really liked a whole lot more but they went way out of my budget. Im still very happy to add this one to my set. NGC MS67
  13. I probably wouldnt have a set if it werent for reloading ammo. Had to have one measuring powder. Very handy for coins also
  14. Ive weighed a few coins just for a little expireminting purposes. I already had a scale before I started collecting. Had to have one for reloading ammo. One time when it came in handy was when I got that quarter off my friend that was missing its clad layer on one side. They are handy when you need them but its rarely. Thats really the only time Ive ever had to have one. May never need it again though.
  15. The trimes are one of my favorite coins. I think I read where they minted them for people to help pay for postage on letters. Dont hold me to that but Im pretty sure. Heres one I have in my collection. I really want to add one in mint shape to my set one these days but they are pretty expensive. This one is AU Details. Enviormental damage. In hand its still a nice looking coin.
  16. I agree with NGC. Definately a spender. Only worth 25 cents. Was a waste of money having it graded. It would have to be in a very high mint state to be worth grading.
  17. I got to get one of them also. Most of them went way out of budget. This one went out of budget also but I bidded on it anyways and got the winning bid. Luckily I got a couple good weeks of work in. Also had all my bills caught up. Happy to add this one to my set.
  18. Better keep a watch on him. Make sure he dont start hocking your coins off at the local pawn shop for more lamb jerky.
  19. Same here. I quit buying graded bullion. Very happy for the ones who do though. Ive bout quit buying it altogether. I may go for the proofs from the mint if I do get any. I dont see anothing wrong at all for the ones who do. I just found other areas in the hobby Im more interested in. I can use that money to focus on them instead. Very nice pickup Mr. Bill !!!
  20. Thats what I done. Ive had the app installed since 2019.
  21. I probably wont be able to swing for anything like that. It would sure be nice. I bet those take some sweet pictures. We may just get into semi pro photography. Or amatures trying to look like pros more like it. I figured a person could still probably take some good pictures with those ones we looked at. She was looking at those mirrorless cameras while back. But they well over $1000. She hasnt mentioned anything about it for a year or so now. I may save up and suprise her with one on her birthday.
