  1. I like having mine in the registry to use it as a guide to collect by. Im not worried about competing or winning. I already know I cant afford to win. I just enjoy using the registry to display my coins also. I enjoy looking at all the others on display. So it dosent bother me much about what the paper tag in the holder says as much. Of course Id love to have very high graded coins, but Ive got some very nice lusterous coins in lower grades also Im happy with. Ive got a couple I know are undergraded but Im not gonna worry about resubmitting them to get a higher registry score or to make money off them.
  2. Some of those good looking ones are struck on themselves and uptite. Not all but several. Better off to get you an average looker with a great attitude. Youll enjoy your time with her more. To stay on topic find one who enjoys collecting coins also. Fun to grow a collection together.
  3. K. I sure will when I get in this evening.
  4. Im not sure if it is or not. Ive never checked it. Ill may try and see if I can adjust it. I never was very good at stuff like that so I never did mess with it.
  5. Its a bald eagle for sure. My camera isnt very good. Cant see in the photo but its actually sitting on another limb behind the one thats blocking its talons. We all got a really good look at it. This picture turned out pretty blurry but you can tell his beak is yellow in it. You could see it plain as day out there looking at it. My camera not very good. When he flew off he had the white tail feathers also.
  6. This is kinda on coin topic and kinda not but Im gonna share anyways. Its very symbolic to our coinage and our great country. Like I said before some of my favorite coins have eagles on them. We hardly ever see eagles around here. Its a wonderful sight when we do. We all got a suprise while working today when one flew up in a tree beside all of us. It sit there for a good 20 minutes giving all of us coworkers an amazing oppurtunity to get several pictures.
  7. That what I was looking at when I decided on these. I got this nice uncirculated 1881H for less than $20. Shopping around Ive seen several uncirculated farthings for very cheap prices. I bought another 1899 at that coin show that was uncirculated. Its got a little black gunk on it so I just put it in an acetone bath this evening. I figured when I get back to working good I can get a few nice ones as I find them. This coin looks very nice in hand. Hard to get a good picture of it with my junky camera. The obverse is very nice. I didnt pop it out of the Whitman to take a pic though. I figured the less touching the better.
  8. Very sad news. I didnt know him but Ive learned alot from him through his book, post on this forum, and other things hes written. Hes even been generous enough to answer questions on here for me in the past. Condolences to his family.
  9. Wanted to revive this thread and mention that I decide while back to collect farthings. Victorian era as for now. I been thinking for a long time on what type of foreign coinage I was gonna work on. I was trying to find something I liked that would be reasonable to build a set. Im not gonna go after graded coins on this set. Im just planning on doing a Whitman. Im planning on taking my time and picking the best possible coins I can find for it. Eventually when Im finished Ill go for half pennies or pennies. Maybe even more modern farthings. Not sure yet.
  10. Very nice pocket piece(s) . The reason I carry the Morgan I do is because I have a zip up pocket in my wallet I keep it in. If I didnt have that I probably wouldnt carry it. Im bad about losing things in my regular pockets. Mines full of holes also.
  11. They done that here also. I keep my CCDW permit still yet cause its very handy for background checks. I can buy one and give them that card and be out the door in less than 10 minutes.
  12. I also have a pocket piece something like that. Its also .357 in diameter. Mine was minted at a little bit cheaper mint but its still a very nice piece to carry around. Its got 6 holes all the way around the rim of it. The toning is kinda blueish and its worn in a few places. Got a little rub on it in a couple spots where pack it every single day. But I still like it very much. Not to awful heavy neither.
  13. Pretty much the same here. Putting my quarter set together I had a chance to get the 1932 d in AU details at a reasonable price and passed on it about a year ago. Had the money for it at the time to. It had been cleaned and I knew I wouldnt be happy with it so I passed on it. People may call me crazy but Id rather have an XF problem free coin than an AU details problem coin. Now maybe if it was something with only a couple know examples or something like that Id be happy to take it. But some key dates are common enough where Id rather not have a problem coin.
  14. Due to the location it looks to me like it was intentionally damaged to give the appearance of a tear drop. If it was unintentional then it just so happened in the right place. Looks like someone was just playing around. Either way its damage. Nothing worth saving.
  15. How many people carry a pocket piece? I bought this 1880 when I first started collecting. It was uncirculated but had been cleaned. I was an unexperienced collector and didnt know no better until I learned the signs of cleaned coins. And it had 100% for sure been cleaned. I pack it in my wallet everywhere I go. Been packing it for a couple years now. Its amazing how much a silver coin will wear down packing it everyday for a couple years time. I think its fun packing a pocket piece. Its a good conversation coin. Its a good flipper if you get in a situation where you need heads or tails. The guys at work think its lucky and they like to scratch their lottery scratchers with it. . It didnt bring me no luck on the couple Ive scratched with it. I may buy 1 or 2 tickets a year. I dont like to waste my money on it. Im to unlucky. Id rather use my extra money to buy a coin or something that is a for sure thing. There has been a couple $100 winners scratched off with it from the guys at work. And several $5, $10, and $20 winners. Its a wonder they havent wore the edge off it. Ive seen them lose way more than they won. I got it out earlier to just flip it around and play with it and noticed how worn down its getting. I figured it wouldnt wear that quickly. Must get a lot of friction inside that wallet. Even the reeded edge has worn down quite a bit. It was completely uncirculated with a great strike. Would have been a very nice coin if not for the cleaning. Ill quit rattling on about things people could care less about. Im mainly trying to make conversation. Anyways, who else carries a pocket piece? And what do you carry? Any neat stories behind your pocket piece or the reason you carry it? Would enjoy the conversation. Heres mine now. Its also got quite a few dings where its been dropped several times.
  16. Had a little fun playing around with this one. If I converted it right, and I seriously doubt I did. Just in case I did, I think it was struck in 1995.
  17. This coin was also in the bag from the other post I made. I didnt want to add 2 different coins to the same thread due to confusion. This one is more than likely not worth anything at all. Im only curious as to what country it is from. Does anyone know what country this coin belongs to?
  18. Ive been off a few days from work. Its been very slow so I done a little mechanic work on the side for a friend of mine. Done quite a bit of work on his vechicle so when he paid me what he was going to he also threw in a small bag of coins as a thank you. He dosent collect and he knows I do and he had them laying around. Theres nothing of any value in the lot. Just some junk drawer coins. It did have a 1964 dime but its only worth the tiny bit of silver in it due to its condition. It had some coins from a foreign country in it that I cant figure out where theyre from. Im not good at telling languages by the writing on them. Can anyone tell me where this coin is from? There was 5 of these in the bag. Im just curious of where they came from. I know theres no value in them. Maybe the silver if they even are silver. They look like silver but not sure.
