  1. Very cool find. Looks to be in very good shape. About what year or time period does that date back to?
  2. Probably a hard times or sales tax token. Just guessing. Ive done a little studying but Im not very knowledgable on them. We have a member on here thats pretty good at identifying them. Ill tag him for ya. Just have some patience and next time he gets on here he may be able to help ya. His name is @Just Bob He found a couple for me before.
  3. Looks AU to me. I really like the story behind the chop marks.
  4. I really like some of the classics. Daniel Boone and Orgeon Trail probably my favorites from that era. Its really hard to choose. I like the Gold panning one also. However I dont own any classics. The oldest I have is the 1982 George Washington half dollar. Out of all the ones I own my favorite is the 2008 Bald Eagle graded NGC pf70. I really like eagles. We hardley ever see them in our area. Maybe 1 a year if that. They are getting more populated but still not very common. At one time they was unheard of in our area. My dad passed away in 2019 at 60 years old. I was heartbroken and very depressed. I took it really hard. We was very close. We was leaving to go to the funeral home the day we was going to bury him and soon as we got to the end of our little one lane road one swooped in maybe 20 feet from us. It flew up in a tree maybe 25 to 30 feet over our head and sit on a branch and just stared at us for quite a long time. We got out and took pictures of it and everything and it never flew off. Kinda helped brighten up a very sad day a little bit. Now everytime I see an eagle around it reminds me of that day and makes me think of my dad and gets me to thinking about the good memories we shared together over the years. Thats actually the reason I bought this coin. I put it in my collection and dedicated it to him. That may sound kinda corney to some but others may get it. Heres the eagle and heres the coin I bought because of it. Its probably my all time favorite commerative followed by a few of the classics. But the 2008 eagle ranks #1 for me. I really love the design of the obverse and reverse both. I really like the detail the designer put into it. The reverse reminds me of a classic type look. Sorry for the glare on the pictures. Those deep mirror proofs are hard to photo.
  5. Very lovely. This is one of my favorite classics. You made a wonderful addition my friend.
  6. I agree with JKK. That one is very badly damaged. Only worth face value.
  7. Wasnt getting ready to put a little a little shine on those roosters was ya?
  8. He was talking about the holder. Hes talking about polishing it up where he can tell more about the coin inside. Its scratched up really bad.
  9. Thats what I would do personally if it were mine. I really like the older holders myself. I really like how they were more conservative about grading in those days. Seems like most the time when I buy a coin in one of them its really nice for the grade. Im not worried about trying to make money or anything. Im more of a collector and I am very unlikely to sell any of my coins. So when I get a nice coin in an older holder I just keep it in there. Thats just my opinion and my preferances. If I were trying to flip it and make money it may be a little different. Personally I find it as a bonus to find one in an older holder. Others may have different opinions. And its yours to do whatever you like with. But if it were mine Id polish it up and keep it in there. Its been preserved in there for 30 some years. My luck Id end up scratching it or some airbore particle would contaminate it soon as I did crack it out. Whatever you choose either way you got a fine looking proof Walker. Very nice addition my friend. That would make any Walker collector happy to have in their collection.
  10. The spot on the other coin is raised. Its a die crack. The one on yours is a gash where it took a hit. It just so happened to be in the same area.
  11. I would love that. We enjoy it very much. Were very happy to get a little better detector than what we had. We had been digging way to many nails and things like that.
  12. Very nice!!! Cant never go wrong with some of Mr Langes knowledge. Awsome gift!!!
  13. Heres some before and after pics. The first picture is not out of focus. Its just scuffed up so bad couldnt hardly see the coin inside. Im not done with it yet neither. Saved me from having to have it reholdered.
  14. Brickyard where my papaw worked. Now I have some tokens from his old store and the brickyard he worked at. This really touched my heart. This one was very elusive since Id been looking for it. Very cool that he found one.
  15. Did anyone get that gift they was wanting for Christmas? I had an awsome Christmas myself. Had a really good friend got me some very special gifts. He got me an old holder PCGS 1937 S quarter in MS64for my set. He also got me a token Ive been trying to locate for a very long time. Its from a brickyard my papaw that owned the store also worked at. Now I got tokens that come from both my papaws work places and a store my one papaw used to own. It touched my heart this Christmas. Its cool to get sentimental items for Christmas. I also got a gift for my whole family. Something we all like to do. I got us a Garret ACE 400 metal detector at a great price. Its quite an upgrade from what we had. The other is junky. Its should be in here in a few days. Hopefully we can have a great time together as family looking for old coins and other buried history. Anyone who wants to share their Christmas gifts in this thread are more than welcome.
  16. Wonder if you could fix the pcgs slabs like the NGC. I started a thread a few days ago about scratched holders. I had one with serious road rash. Im waiting on some finer grit sandpaper to come in the mail and a plastic restore solution. I worked on it just a little with 1000 and 2000 grit paper and a buffing wheel and it already looks amazing. I cant wait to see the results after the finer grit paper comes in. I ordered a pack that has 3000 to 10,000 grit and some plastx that @Coinbufrecommended. I had amazing results with very little effort. Ill post my final results when everything comes in and im done. Not sure how it would work on a PCGS slab but an NGC slab shines up great. Im sure a PCGS would also.
  17. We wanted to see it but it was to cloudy here last night.
  18. Id say that was a typo. Should be AU50. Sometimes you will see typos on the slab labels as well. Not very often but it happens.
  19. I know how they look through a scratched slab. Im going to say pf65. Very nice addition. Love those Walkers.
  20. Merry Christmas @Zebo !!! Merry Christmas to everyone else also!!! Hope everyone has a blessed and joyful day!!
  21. I really enjoyed that. Learned some new things. Thank you for sharing. I never dreamed cameos were that scarce in those years. Congratulations on finding the coin you were after!! This proves putting in hard work and patience pays off. Very nice and have a Merry Christmas!!
  22. My problem is when I first started putting my set together I bought some very ugly toned coins I find as eye sores now. That was before I learned to have patience and pick ones I really like. I plan on selling them for whatever I can get out of them even if I do take a loss. Then using that money to replace them with ones I personally find more appealing wether they be the same grade or not. I may have to put more money with what I get to buy the new ones. Not really upgrading. More like replacing some problem coins I should have never bought. I got in to big of a hurry when I first started.
  23. If you got a collection so large you have to use the back pockets to then you outta be knowledgable enough to know thats corrosion from some type of contamination. Id like to see that label that says strike through on it. I can see NGC giving it a pf67 for that spot but I cant see them calling that a struck thru error. If you can show the entire picture of the front of the slab and it says struck through error Ill bow down and appologize. By the way my poor little pocket collection is starting to grow. They are starting to get tight in there. Ill have to start slipping them in my socks soon. It dont hurt my feelings though. Im not one those people who have to sit and brag about how much bigger my collection is than others. Im grateful I got enough to fill both front pockets.
