  1. Thanks for the info. The one I bid on had turned yellow like the one in the OP. Label and ring both. It had a quarter in it I really wanted. Someone else wanted it more than I did though and won it.
  2. I bid on a coin a couple years ago in a holder like that one. I lost the bid on it. I like those also.
  3. I think Ive only shared a couple of my copper coins in this thread before. I dont have many at all. Wish I had more. I really like copper coins. After I finish a couple sets Im working on I plan on getting more coppers. Here is one of my more favorite coppers out of my collection. Its not a great picture. Cant wait to get better pictures. Its one of my favorite DD coins. Its the 1995 DDO cent. NGC MS67 Red.
  4. Ive always wondered how that nail went through the machine only getting struck 1 time. As fast as those dies are stricking youd think it would be struck more than once. Or how the head didnt get hung up in the feeder and jam it up. Ive always been a little skeptical about it ever since I saw it. It may be legit but it will always be in the back of my mind.
  5. Everyone was all pretty close and several hit it on the head. MS66
  6. Weve had a few Guess the Grade threads here lately. I really enjoy those, even though Ive missed a couple of them pretty badly. I done horrible on the capped bust coins. Lets try something a bit more modern. This one should be pretty easy for most members. 1948 S graded by PCGS
  7. A very good friend of mine gifted me 4 quarters all certified by NGC. I needed 2 of them to fill slots in my set and one of them was an upgrade from a MS62 to a MS64. I was completely speechless when he gave them to me. I was truly grateful to get them. It moved me up a few places on the registry. Heres the upgrade. NGC MS64
  8. Then its probably damaged. People used to carve their initials and things in them years ago.
  9. Heres a few of my better ones since you didnt like the one I found yesterday. They all have the VDB on them also. Its hard to see in bottom pic but I changed the light a little to help. My photography skills are not very good.
  10. Your not getting the point Im trying to make. The coin I posted is nothing special. Im not bragging about it or anything. I just found it in change yesterday. Just trying to show you that the coin you posted is not an error coin. They all have the L close to the rim. And when they get circulated the rim gets worn over closer like the one your grandpa gave you. The only value yours has is the sentimental value. It makes it special coming from a loved one. I have coins like that in my collection that came from my dad that have a sentimental value but are just common coins worth around face value or a little more. The coin you posted is just as common as the ones in this pile.
  11. Your grandfather probably got it back in change years ago. They are very common. There were millions of them minted. I got one back in change yesterday from a store that sells curtains. Like JP said its just worn and the rim cas been pushed closer to the L. The 1956 I found yesterday is the same way. I wish they were worth $1200. Ive got a quart jar full of them in circulated condition. Ive got a few put up in plastic rolls that are uncirculated and several of them are red. Heres the one I found yesterday. Its only worth around face value same as the coin in the OP. Hard to tell from the lighting but the rim is actually touching the L on this one. Its due to heavy circulation.
  12. I do to. We need harsher punishments for theives.
  13. Time slips by pretty fast. Seems like its speeding up.
  14. I really like the Guardhouse boxes also. I bought one a couple years ago and I became a big fan. Been using them ever since. Also good to see you again @Modwriter Hadnt seen you in a coons age. I thought you left us.
  15. Your coin has been heavily circulated. It was circulated befor your grandfather got it. Even though it sit for several years dosent mean it hasnt been circulated. All the high spots are worn down. Heres an example of an uncirculated cent. See the difference.
  16. I could bout tell right away on that one. Had some pretty good pictures to work with. It had the classic shelf dooubling.
  17. Small die chips are pretty common on coins. They usually happen alot when the die starts getting worn out. And it seems with the modern coins they run them until they are worn pretty bad. If you start roll hunting you will start finding severalof them. Seems like I find more on modern dimes than I do anything for some reason. Coins with machine doubling are very common also due mostly to worn dies. Seems the quality control at the mint isnt the greatest these days.
  18. I just got my first 2023 P quarter back in change today at a gas station.
