  1. There actually is an S/D and a D/S. They are both required to complete a set on the registery. I lucked out and got both of them at the same time at auction. They are both very pricey. I had to settle for fine examples.
  2. Its just a normal 1963 D cent. Worth 1 cent. I wouldnt waste money submitting it.
  3. Ive only found 2 DD coins in my time collecting and they are definately not worth while. They are more minor. The 1963 quarter I found is neat but not much value and its in mint state. Definately nothing Id ever submit for grading. I put them in coin flips just for the heck of it. All the misinformation on You Tube and other websites have new collectors thinking that all DD coins are valuable. I thought the same thing when I first started collecting. I heard that and didnt know any better. After doing some researching and talking to experienced collectors I learned better.
  4. I agree with everyone else. Spend it. Every coin app Ive ever seen was wrong about values. I tried one out with a normal wheat cent that was of no value just to see if it identified it correctly. The app told me it was worth thousands. I see coin apps as a big problem to the hobby if they are giving misinformation like that. Gets new collectors thinking they really have something they dont. I rate all the ones Ive tried right up there with you tube and esty. Actually I think I started a thread about it a couple years ago warning new collectors not to trust them over the experience I had with them.
  5. Wrong. Is definately not a DD. Your not gonna find one that easy. Its pretty rare to find a true dd. Ive only found a couple in my time collecting and Ive looked through thousands of coins. If u ever do find one that you think is one then compare it to known examples on Variety Vista or another trusted source. If it dosent match any variety thats recorded then its not one. Id suggest doing that and then if you have a winner post it on here to confirm it. Id also suggest researching how dd coins are made in the first place. Learn how the minting process works. You posted several coins you thought were dd coins. Your not gonna find them that easily.
  6. Yea. Looks like the depression is in there backwards.
  7. Thats a vise job. People take coins and press them together with a vise transferring the design from one coin onto the other. Just damage and not an error.
  8. We see them on here all the time. People get bored and put them in a vise or press and press another coin into them. Ive only been on here for about 3 years and Ive seen just about everything in that short amount of time. You wouldnt believe the damage people does to coins. From harsh chemicals to grinder jobs. People like to expirement with them.
  9. Looks normal to me. You can check cents by going to Variety Vista or NCC variety plus and comparing them to known examples. If they dont match then more than likely they are either not doubled or have the worthless type of doubling such as machine doubling, strike doubling, etc. Most true dd coins are very hard to find. Most are like looking for unicorns.
  10. When I first started collecting I just went for whatever. I saw an older date and didnt think about all the types of damage that was done to it, such as cleaning, whizzing, etc. Now that Im learning more about the hobby I watch for those type things. It all depends on what type of coin Im planning to buy on what I watch for now. I try to find the most attractive, problem free coins I can find that fits my budget. I look for attractive rim toning. I stay away from the monster rainbow toned coins. I know they are a hot item for most collectors but they are just not my thing. I do like some of them but, very few. Im still not experienced enough to spot the ones that are artifically toned and the ones thats natural. Some are very obvious to me and some are harder for me to know the difference. I just try to stay away from them. I like the more natural look from blast white to light golden toning. I also like the light kobalt blue toning some of the nickels turn in the earlier proof sets. I collect Washington quarters also. Mostly silver ones from 1932 to 1964. On them it depends on the dates. Some are very expensive and some not so bad. On the key dates out of my budget I settle for coins in circulated condition such as the 32 D and 32 S. The easier dates I look for coins that dont have unattractive dings and things like that. I also buy most of them graded. I can keep going and going on what I look for depending on the types of coins I buy so ill cut this short. I try to find the most attractive, problem free, damage free, coin I can find that fits my budget. Im still a new collector so I started reading books wrote about the main series I collector such as GW quarters and Franklin halves. They are very helpful and tell you what to look for in certain dates.
  11. I wanted to share this one a long time ago but couldnt get pictures to post. I finally found a computer to use where I can start posting again. I done some trading with a good friend for this one. It is a true beauty in hand and Im happy to give it a good home in the slab holder box with my other buffalo nickels.
  12. I decided to put together a Dansco album of Franklin halves in BU condition. I got this one on an Ebay auction. It is a beauty in hand.
  13. I used to reload my own ammo and I got one of the older Hornady scales for measuring powder. That is the best scale Ive ever owned. Its very accurate and very easy to calibrate with the weight that comes with it. It weighs to 3 decimal points. If you can get hold of one of those, they are great scales for weighing coins. I very rarely weigh a coin but when I do I use them. Last time I weighed a coin was to help confirm a quarter with a missing clad layer. Thats been over a year ago.
  14. The small date 82 d copper is the is the valuable one. The large date coppers are very common. You would have better chances of hitting the powerball than finding a 82 d small date copper.
  15. I do the same now. When I first started I didnt know much about the hobby and bought some already graded. Now Id rather have all my bullion coins in the OGP. I really dont see the point in having them graded for my purpose with them.
  16. Sorry bout the crappy pictures. I had to email to my sons laptop and add them. I cant figure out how to crop them properly. If i could only use my phone again.
  17. found a really cool die clash. Not worth much but still happy to find it . I put it in a coin flip and put it up.
  18. That was part of my game plan. Theres so much to go through so I figured Id sort through very quickly. Im gonna make a list of some of the coins that there could actually be a possibility of finding. Im not gonna waste time searching for DD and things like that. Ill sort out the dates on the cents that are known for the close and wide AMs and then search them after i got a pile stacked up. Ill look for wheaties and things like that. Not gonna waste time looking for unicorns. Hopefully I can find some to share with you all. If I can post them. It wont let me on my phone anymore. Ill try to use my sister in laws computer. Im not gonna get my hopes up but you never know. Will still be fun looking.
  19. Its been a while since I posted on here and Im laying around at the motel with nothing to do so I figured Id start this thread. My boss is a really good friend of mine and hes a non collector. Hes strictly a cash man. If he uses a debit card then something serious is going on. Hes got 5 years worth of change saved up hes getting ready to cash in and hes gonna let me look through it first. Im going to do it Saturday if I can look through it that quick. He said hes got several jug fulls. Ill keep this thread updated and let you all know if I find anything good, if anything at all. Im hoping to at least find a couple W quarters or maybe the elusive 2009 nickels. I couldve probably waited to start this thread until then but, I get a little excited sometimes.
  20. Im still out the circulation strikes for my album. Hope I can eventually find them. Anyone know right off how many of the Matte were minted?
  21. Dont know if i done good or bad but, I bought both the 2009 P and D cut out of the uncirculated sets for $8.00. Thats the cheapest I could find them. Ive had no luck finding them in change or rolls. They are in great shape where they are still in the plastic OGP bubbles. Would share a picture but they still wont post. Dont know what happend. Never had no trouble before. When I go to add a picture it takes me straight to the home page.
  22. I cringed through the whole video. "Just clamp down on er with some needle nose pliers and dip the good ole dremel 3000 in some heavy duty aluminum polish and burn all that tarnish and dirt off." That has to be one of the worst Ive seen also. If any new collectors are reading this, every single thing on that video is what not to do.
  23. All I can say is I know where it wasnt found. And who didnt find it.
