  1. Hes got holes dug up everywhere. . Looks like a D9 dozer been in their yard. Sadly thats the only thing he found that was exciting. He called me all excited saying he found a silver ingot. I looked at it and it was a chunk of aluminum broke off something. I got a kick out of that. Hes found all kinds of modern change. The only thing I found was a 50s era wheat cent that was badly damaged. I did find an old worm off a moonshine still. And a dog tag from ww2 era that has the Lords prayer on it. Im still looking though. I just know Im gonna find a decent find soon.
  2. He found that one in his front yard. That was a heck of a find. We do alot of metal detecting on private land here close to the house. We got quite a bit of public land around here close also such as Daniel Boone National Forest but I think metal detecting is prohibited on it. Luckily where I live out in the country there are several land owners who give us permission to go on theyre properties. Ive never found anything nice myself. Yet anyways. The oldest coin I found was a badly damaged 50s era wheat cent.
  3. Still been cleaned. Theres other evidence of cleaning other than the color. You can tell by the hairlines on the obverse. Its still a keeper in my opinion. I wouldnt have it graded if it were mine. Id store it in a coin flip or a coin capsule. I dont think its worth grading. Sadly my sisters step son found one about the same caliber while metal detecting. Before he could get hold of me to look at it he scrubbed it with a tooth brush to remove the dirt. I was heartbroken when i seen it. If hed just called me sooner I couldve advised him not to do that. From what ive learned on here cleaning a coin was common practice in the old days. Thats why u see so many older coins with cleaning. Now its frowned upon by true collectors. I can see why. It ruins a coin in my opinion unless its conserved professionally by experts such as NCS.
  4. It looks like its been spooned. For whatever reason people take a spoon and repeatedly tap the edges until they flatten out like that. I guess some may be art projects and some may be boredem. Some may do it to try and pass them off as a mint error to a newer collector. Hard to say what people are thinking when they spoon them.
  5. If it were mine I would store it in a coin flip. Its a neat find but I wouldnt waste the money grading it. It runs into quite a bit of money after paying for shipping and all the other fees on top of the grading fee. Its close to $100 to have one graded and its only worth a couple dollars or so.
  6. Maybe uncirculated. Details. After a second look it what I thought was a little bit of rub may not be. It was the way I was looking at it. But it looks like its been cleaned to me at one time. Im just guessing. Im not very expirenced on these.
  7. Alot of times I have to compress photos before I can share them. I downloaded a photo compressor from google play and it solved my problems.
  8. Definately a large date which is very common in copper. You would have a better chance finding bigfoot than a small date copper.
  9. It was educational for me. Thanks for sharing and starting this thread.
  10. Thank you. I cant believe I got it right on my first guess. If I hadnt seen it in the holder I would have thought it was a circulation strike. That was my first guess was it was labeled wrong. It didnt have that proof appearance to it. I been curious the past couple days and I wasnt sure I was correct or not. Thanks for confirming it. This was a educational thread for me and probably newer collectors like me. This is my 4th year of collecting and reading books in the hobby and Im still totally lost on alot of things. Im learning more every day though.
  11. I was hoping more would have guessed at this one. Ive been very curious to the answer. I never got the chance to read @Sandon reply before it was deleted.
  12. I agree with the others. You can tell where its been harshly cleaned at one point in its time. You can espically tell by the scratches on the obverse. Also the natural luster is gone and replaced by the dull gray color.
  13. Can u get a better picture? Looks like a large date to me but the picture is to blurry to tell for sure or not.
  14. I believe if they were mine Id just leave them in the coin flip. Like others said they really aint worth the price of grading. You can buy other coin holders for alot cheaper if you want better protection for them. Its your money though. Spend it how you want. But it cost close to $100 to submit a coin after shipping, grading, and all the other fees.
  15. It looks like just damage. Looks like it took a hit and pushed the metal up out of that scratch making it look a little like a cud.
  16. If any of you all ever hit it and need a place to lay low, your more than welcome to come hide out at my place. your more than welcome anyways. even if u dont hit it.
  17. Is it not a proof? Im not very knowledgeable on these. Ive not looked at enough to make calls but if I didnt see the label I would have thought it was a circulation strike. I am still a newbie though.
  18. I agree with the others. Ive dug them out of the ground while metal detecting and they would look like that. Its do to exposure of enviromental conditions.
  19. He is a handsome fella. Just kidding. His pictures on google looks alot like that Weird Al fella from back in the 90s.
  20. Theres some interesting info about Leopold 1 if anyone likes history. I love it myself. I just took a quick look on google and read a short amount on him. Going to read more tomorrow after work. Very cool to buy that coin and own a little piece of history from his empire and era.
  21. That helps a whole lot. Thank you for the info. That pointed me in the right direction. Now Im going to have to do some research on Leopold 1 of Habsburg.
  22. I know the old saying is, ¨Read the book and then buy the coin,¨ but, I didnt follow that advice. I took a wild hair and bought a world coin I currently know nothing about. I really liked the design and it led to this purchase. Is there anyone on the forum that collects these? I dont know if it was a wise decision or not. Has anyone ever seen a coin you knew nothing about and bought it anyways? I been wanting to add more diversity to my collection. More world coins. Its got a few dark spots but I would probably have also if I were that old. It actually looks a whole lot better in hand. Im happy with it. Does anyone know what language that is? Id love to decipher it and read what it says.
  23. Thats a beauty. I can see why Henri likes them. Thats a lovely coin.
