  1. I have an AWS Postal Scale (plug or battery powered) that has performed well for outgoing packages. 25 kilogram max, displays in increments of 2 grams. It also has English (lb./oz.) measurements. That's probably fine for a bag of bulk coins. If someone local has (for example) a few Morgan/Peace Dollars for sale, though, I'd rather have something that tells me a more precise weight than 26 grams. The coin could be anywhere from 25.01 to 26.99 grams and the scale would display 26. That's way too much of a margin for my liking.
  2. I'm looking for a scale accurate enough to help me test 90% silver dimes/quarters/halves/dollars. "Junk silver" bought face to face at a show or from a local seller. I know there will be some variance, because as coins circulate, they get slightly lighter. I also realize weight is not the only test. Just looking for an inexpensive tool to add to my "kit" before I go out and start doing this.
  3. I'm looking to pick up a digital scale to weigh coins. I want it to be portable, so I can take it to shows and such. To suit my purposes, the scale should be able to weigh/display 0.01 gram increments. There are hundreds of options available for purchase online...probably too many choices. Does anyone have a relatively inexpensive (<$25) recommendation?
  4. Thanks for the reply. I've heard of Littleton. The others are new names to me. I'll check them out.
  5. FYI - for those who may not have heard... PWCC has been in business for quite a few years; however, they were recently acquired by a large company called Fanatics. So, they have a reputation (this could be good or bad, depending on who you ask) that might not match the current company's way of doing things. The founder of PWCC stayed on briefly after the change in ownership; however, he is gone now. They parted ways earlier this month, I believe. To make a long story short, I'm treating PWCC as though they were a new company.
  6. * * * This is not a buy/sell/trade post. I'm just looking for info * * * I'm getting back into collecting after about 15 years away from the hobby. My previous experience was mostly limited to saving interesting coins I picked up as change. I'm not worried about the authenticity what I found back then. They're mostly lower grade examples of common coins; think wheat pennies and the occasional silver dime/quarter. Nothing spectacular; however, great for filling holes in a Whitman folder. As I pick up collecting again, I'm trying to figure out which online vendors are trusted sources for a few specific types of coins: Wheat pennies, graded: 1931-S; 1914-D; 1909-S; and 1909-S V.D.B (not high-grade...F to VF or so) Wheat pennies, ungraded, semi-key dates (1910-S, 1911-S, etc.) "Junk silver" rolls of dimes, quarters, and half dollars So, basically, I'm looking to finish the wheat penny collection and pick up some junk silver. Which online vendors (or options, such as eBay or the forums here) are good options? My main priority is avoiding fake or altered coins. (I realize the answers may depend on which coins we're talking about...eBay may be fine for graded coins but a nightmare for junk silver, etc.)
  7. It's not in the greatest shape; however, I've got a pretty clear picture of the mint mark. It looks like something odd is going on. I can't quite tell if this is an S over D, a D over S, or just a beat up S coin. My numismatic experience comes from grabbing coins out of pocket change throughout the years. Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
