  1. Ebay has never been consistent with how or who they side with when these issues arise, it used to be that Ebay almost always sided with the seller, then at some point they began to move more to the buyer side on disputes. It is a case by case decision but it does seem that from the stories I have read/heard Ebay will side with the buyer in many cases in recent years.
  2. In looking at the photos in the auction I am reminded of why I do not trust the PCGS TV. I have no doubt that in the right light tilted the right way the coin has all the color the TV shows, however in hand and under normal lighting conditions I suspect that it looks much more like the slab shots in the auction. Sorry that this one did not work out but these come up with some regularity so I'm sure that you will find another "right" one.
  3. Its expensive for the type compared to recent auctions at that grade level, cheap for the color. I cannot tell you if its worth it, I know that for myself I would let it go as I do not pay large premiums for color. But in this market and timeframe I think that coin will hammer for more than the current bid.
  4. 38-D's were one of the best made in the series, I'm guessing it is MS65. Most of the minor marks look to be planchet marks that did not fully strike out when the coin was coined.
  5. And the answer is that ACG called it MS66, my photos made it look slightly PL however in hand it is not and has strong luster bands which I am still working on capturing in photos. Few attempted; and it would have been difficult from the photos; but I think this is VAM 18. Myself I think its a liner 64/65 a coin that would be 64 5 out of ten trips to a grading room and 65 the other 5 trips. This is one of the coins/holders I've collected as part of my holder collection, I enjoy collecting the history of the TPG's and their holders and it makes a fun side project to coin collecting for me. I hope this was a nice break from the usual, now back to the regular parking lot find discussions.
  6. From what I have been seeing just about anything that is eye appealing and/or with toning is white hot right now. Heck even unappealing ugly toned coins are bringing moon money often.
  7. My money is on MD, its a very dramatic example and cool from that standpoint but still MD. No matter I would save that one, its cool.
  8. Damaged is my guess, there is such a thing as a ragged clip but that would require an in hand analysis by an error expert.
  9. Just to clarify NGC will note some VAM's but not all and to have most noted on the slab you have to pay the extra variety fee. You can find the VAM's that NGC does identify in the grading section on the main page, under the submit/variety section. Unfortunately I did not see the 1882-CC 3B in the list.
  10. That is a very unusual area and look for a die crack.
  11. I agree with Bobby it looks like a 3B. I would not recomend submitting this coin to a TPG, while its very frosty, has lots of luster, and a super nice reverse the obverse has a lot of scuffs and bag marks. But the real troubling thing is the scratch between the base of the cap toward the M of "UNUM", I think that scratch would result in a details grade.
  12. If you are wondering about the long stain on the obv, that is some type of glue or foreign substance on the coin. A quick soak in acetone will most likely remove it.
  13. There are no wrong answers so give this Morgan your best shot even though my lighting was not the very best for these photos; I'll show the grade on Wed AM. For extra credit see if you can id the VAM for this coin.
  14. Those are commonly called impaired proofs, I find them from time to time and collect these as a fun collection from change.
  15. Its an American Legion hall, not huge maybe 80 yards by 30 yards wide. My camera case lens cover is sorta messed up so the photo looks rather dark and smoky which it is not.
  16. The coin does not look "dirty" it appears to have been a slightly proof like coin that was over dipped and now looks hazy. The yellow tint may in fact be some dip residue that was not totally rinsed off and has resurfaced over time. NCS might be able to conserve the coin to remove the old dip residue but the hazy look is likely there for good. Its also possible that under different lighting/angles the fields may be brighter than they appear in these photos.
  17. This show is a very long running show, as far back as the mid 90's perhaps longer. I have seen (I have even setup as a dealer at this show many years ago) this show with more dealer and collector attendance when it was at a larger venue in the early 2000's, but for this current venue this was a very good turnout for both. This was not the first time this show has happened this year, it was shutdown much of last year but has been happening on and off for the past 3-6 months. All the regular dealers that I know who were there today seemed happy and remarked that business was brisk, hopefully they were all able to make a few dollars for the time invested. There is plenty of dealer to dealer traffic in the first hour or so before the show opens to the public, and just like big shows the dealer to dealer deals continue through out the show.
  18. I stopped by the monthly local coin show today, strong attendance with 30+ dealers and lots of collectors. Plenty of nice collector coins, a few new dealers that I have not seen before or at least not often. It seemed that coins were moving back and forth and sales were happening both ways. I sold some foreign junk silver, Canadian and Mexican silver dollars along with some cull Peace dollars. I also was able to sell a 1913 $5 gold Indian and an 1884-CC Morgan for small profits on both. There were a few coins that I was tempted on but decided to hold the cash for now. Hopefully shows are starting back up in the area that you reside and will continue to do so moving forward.
  19. I agree that the coin you have in your op graded by PCGS should not have been called FS, there are several significant major cuts/hits/disturbances of the steps on that coin. But TPG's make mistakes and this coin is proof of that, if you own that coin whatever you do never crack it out as the chances are high it will never get the FS distinction again. It is coins like this that fuel the conspiracy theories that some submitters get special treatment.
  20. I have not done this in many years but what I used to do was use MS word to type up the info I wanted spaced out on the page. Then use a circle cutter to cut a circle around the info just the size of the album hole, fill the hole done.
  21. It depends on modern mint products it can be fine, however for an older coin the chances are that you will not receive a coin in quite as nice shape as the auction photo. Hopefully in this case it works out well for you.
  22. Congrats again on your award, those plaques are very nice and the Morgan is a nice award addition.
  23. Thanks to you and the team for adding this set, just a couple of days in and already 8 sets which shows that this is a well received new set addition.
  24. I would also think twice about spending extra for insurance on something with such a small value, I would likely just use priority mail as that comes with $50 worth of insurance and call it done.
