  1. Well the CAC price guide shows a 67 with a guide price of $260, so if you were able to get a bean it might add a small bit of value over the cost to submit. So while not a big price boost the other intangible factor is liquidity, and its difficult to predict if the bean would increase either the price or liquidity significantly more than the old holder currently does.
  2. Great looking new additions @Woods020, congrats.
  3. Now that is parking lot gold right there.
  4. I would not spend the money to grade it, in Mar 2020 an MS64 was auctioned at Heritage and sold for $65 which likely was break even or in the red for the seller after sellers fees. Impossible to comment on a possible grade/value from just these two close ups (remember to post full shots of both sides in the future) but I'm assuming this is a circulated coin, so I would guess its value is far less than the MS64 example I cited.
  5. I can sure understand the temptation, the only word of caution I would give is that this may have been silently net graded down for those aforementioned wispy marks rather than call it cleaned. Not saying that's what happened but if you have the opportunity to have a barber expert review it that might be a good idea before you crack it.
  6. Mostly as you mentioned these were novelty giveaways and used for promotional gigs.
  7. It is a very nice coin that presents well with nice luster, a touch of color, and the strike look solid. I'm also thinking the wispy marks on the cheek and neck may have held it back some, MS64+.
  8. I suggest that you save your money, this coin will not be attributed as a wide AM. You posted this same coin on the PCGS forum and received the same answers there, this is not a variety just a normal cent for that date.
  9. Welcome to the NGC forum, things are a bit more laid back than you are used to ATS.
  10. Its a badly mangled Lincoln cent worth $.01 if you can get someone to take it in exchange for good or services. If you are asking if this is an error it does not appear to be one from what I see in your photos.
  11. I see no reason to split up the submissions, that only costs you more in shipping and overhead fees. I have heard of dealers splitting a coin that they feel is a possible problem or questionable color coin when sending to the TPG's in order to not put extra suspicion on other coins; but I don't see that as an issue with CAC. When I submit to CAC I send a full page of coins or as close as I possibly can, that splits the shipping and overhead costs over a larger number of coins.
  12. I cannot say what factors JA uses or if he has any special considerations when reviewing the coins sent in, I suspect that given the many tens of thousands of coins he has seen that it is not difficult for him to quickly discern the nice for the grade coins. I would not consider the field chatter an automatic death sentence, over the years it has always seemed to me that the TPG's were rather lenient on that for CC Morgans due to the rough handling they received during transportation from the Carson City mint. I have never heard JA express any thoughts on that issue that I can recall so its very possible that my guesses are overly critical, please update with your results as it will be interesting to see how you do.
  13. My guess: 83-CC green 85-CC not CAC, too much field chatter 78-CC not CAC, again too much field chatter 91-CC green Both the 83 and 91 look under graded but I'm not sure from the photos that a gold bean will be awarded. It seems that very often to get a gold bean the coin has to be almost two grades under graded.
  14. Yes that is an NGC 5th generation holder, the last version of the fatty holders. Here is a link to an old thread with a list of the NGC holder generations that was put together by @Conder101 NGC Holder generations The list has not been updated in some time so many of the newer generations are not shown.
  15. I saw that thread this morning too, I was not aware of this packaging before and it does present some interesting ideas for getting new collectors involved.
  16. Some spectacular copper has been displayed in this thread , thanks to all for participating and keeping it alive and vibrant.
  17. Neat change find for sure.
  18. QA will say anything just to get some attention as most here ignore what he has to say.
  19. Difficult to be sure, however when you see lines that run parallel and move across not just the fields but also the devices that is a very good sign of a cleaning or damage due to the coin having been scraped across a surface. From the photo it seems to me that the lines move across the bust so that triggers a cleaning in my mind, perhaps the graders will feel differently as they have the benefit of the in hand look.
  20. This is the read I'm seeing from the photo, I've outlined an area of the obv field that has an odd look to it in addition to the numerous hairlines that go across the coin in the direction of the arrows that I've drawn. Lighting and lens angles make photos a poor substitute for in hand evaluation so I may be over reading the photo, and in this case I hope I am.
  21. I agree that it looks cleaned, I'm no expert but the letters look funky to me so I'm wondering about this being a counterfeit.
  22. I have not seen one before but I think that its a gift shop souvenir/token that may have been purchased by an individual that visited Yellowstone Park in the past. From the photo I would guess its made of brass but that is just a guess.
  23. If I understand your question correctly I think your asking if you have an Accented Hair (not extra hair) Kennedy half. If that is the case then yes I think you do have an AH Kennedy, difficult to say for sure but from the photos the coin looks hazy and I would think rather doubtful it would go CAM and almost no chance of a DCAM. The decision to have it authenticated/graded and slabbed depends on what you intend to do with the coin. If you plan to hold onto it for a long time there is no real need to have it slabbed, however if you want to sell it then getting it slabbed with the variety noted on the slab may be beneficial. It would need to grade at least PR66 or better to be able to break even on the costs to slab and sell, imo (from these photos) your coin will not grade that high. Here is a comparison photo of a regular and AH Kennedy for your reference.
  24. Yes those photos are much better from those I have a slight concern about the coin having been cleaned, the area just right of the head under "Y" sort of looks like a patch of hairlines. Also just in front of the mouth, but its also quite possible that those areas are just how the toning formed. If you know of a good coin shop in your area I would walk it in and ask for their opinion, photos are good but an in hand look would be better to see those areas. Assuming that those areas are fine then I would guess a grade of AU53, the details of the coin support an AU58 grade but I suspect that the grade would be lower due to the heavy hits/cuts on the obv and the slightly negative eye appeal of all the black spots. Still a nice key date coin.
