  1. ITs a typical CC, frosty and bright but lots of chatter and marks. I would grade it as a 62, just too many bag marks for anything higher
  2. @Hoghead515 Just a heads up, there was a nice Washington quarter someone is selling here on the sale forum. I don't know if its still there or one that you might need but if you have not seen it maybe you will want to take a peek.
  3. Just out of curiosity could you expand on why/how you see this as leveling the playing field.
  4. To my thinking its sort of inevitable really, I'm not all that sure that either service wants to embrace CAC, but to ignore its status in the marketplace would be rather foolish. CAC has been in operation now for quite some time and on the PCGS forums many members were wanting and requesting CAC sets for several years on their forum prior to PCGS creating their CAC sets. So at some point both services saw the writing on the wall and felt that keeping customers happy (most anyway) is better than any slight possible negative perceptions of not including the CAC acceptance within the registry in some way. I am not surprised to see this, I am just curious if including CAC in the registry here at NGC in this way will be positive or negative long term. From the tiny sample size of this thread and the thread on the PCGS forum about this the overall sentiment has been more positive than negative, but far too small of a sample to make any determination from.
  5. I have not checked his website for awhile, when I did my setup from Ray I worked with him to customize as I already had a copy stand and lights. As I recall one of his base systems was around $450ish all in around $500 with shipping. He does offer some additional items, most are for super close-up work but I do recommend getting his diffuser which greatly helps with getting the lighting dialed in. That $450 package was for the camera, software, lens, basic stand, and lights if memory serves me well. But if you have any of those items already then I'm sure that Ray can work with you to provide the pieces to fill in the gaps. Ray's website
  6. Have you contacted NGC's customer service? This section of the forum is usually where new collectors are encouraged to post questions about the coins they have; and while some of the NGC staff do peek into this section its not always on a regular basis. Asking your question in the "ask NGC" section Here or contacting CS directly will get you answers in a more timely fashion
  7. I'm not at all surprised a year or so back PCGS introduced CAC only sets on their registry so it seemed only a mater of time that NGC would find a way to get CAC involved too. I think my only concern is the bonus points for green beaned coins, CAC approved coins are and have been receiving higher bids/prices in the coin market. I'm afraid that this move could actually widen the gap that already exists. Bonus points for gold beans makes perfect sense, but should be an interesting development to watch as all this unfolds. I wonder if this was a step forward towards the rollout of the ANA registry platform.
  8. The melt value of your war nick today is $1.56 for the silver content, that value changes each day slightly with the spot price of silver. Your coin is too worn to have any collector value over its silver melt value, still a fun find when found in pocket change.
  9. Congrats on your results, passed = green bean, exceeded = gold bean.
  10. Per the NGC release: Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is pleased to announce that the NGC Registry will recognize and score coins evaluated by Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC), starting May 19, 2021. I certainly see the ideology in recognizing coins with the CAC acceptance in the registry, but I wonder if awarding bonus points will be a positive or negative result for the registry.
  11. If you can please post photos of your nickels, review the sticky at the top of this forum section. If you can provide nice clear cropped in focus photos of both sides of each coin we may be able to answer your question without you spending and money. However if you cannot or we are not able to help than I'm quite sure that the folks at NGC will indeed be able to tell you for sure.
  12. The postal service moves in mysterious ways!
  13. It can, but I have a pool so that helps, and within a few hours I can be in the high country to cool off on weekends so its alright. When I really want to cool down the wife and I head to San Diego and play on the beach for a day or two. That is what I have always liked about living here, it is hot but so many ways to find relief and the winters are awesome. Well that's enough off track on your thread, hope you have a great time at FUN and get a chance to meet some of the forum members. If LB ever gets up and running maybe a meet and greet there for forum members too.
  14. I'm in Phx AZ, nothing like 122 degrees at 1PM for a nice round of golf.
  15. You want to melt on the golf course you need to come here. I've always enjoyed the LB show, and I would really like to do an ANA show in Denver as I could crash on my daughters sofa for that show, bucket list show.
  16. FUN is a no go for me, flying still requires a vaccine or an expensive rapid test so that is a no for me. Personally I have never been to any show except the LB show which is a long drive but at least I can drive there. With the cost of flights, rental car, lodging, and food I would have nothing left to spend on coins so just no point in going to any of the east coast shows.
  17. The tier you need to use is tied to the valuation of the coins, if your coins are all worth $300 each or less you can use the Economy tier which is $22 per coin plus shipping and handling. The down side to the economy tier is that it is very slow, according to the NGC site it looks like they show the economy service at 53 days. Of importance you need to understand that the turnaround times are work days not weekends or holidays and that the time does not start until your package has been opened and a recorded into the system, so economy including shipping both ways could easily be three months. The next tier up is the regular which is for coins valued up to 3K each, this tier (early bird/standard) costs $38 per coin but the good news is that the turnaround time is much faster currently showing 20 days. If your coins are higher in value than 3K then there are additional tiers for those, so choose the tier you need biased on the value and/or the speed of service you desire.
  18. As proofs are expected to be fully struck strike characteristics like FS or FBL are not needed.
  19. This the most cost effective system that provides great results right away that I have seen Camera I have one of his systems and once you get the lighting down it works like a dream, and Ray is very good about helping you get the system dialed in. Now if you don't have that much to spend then there are several tutorials here in the US coin section of this forum on how to use a newer smart phone camera with excellent results, here is one of those. Coin Photography The biggest hurdle no mater what kind of camera you use is having and using the lighting correctly.
  20. Welcome to the forum, that is a very cool find and yes it does have some small value over the face value. In that condition I think you could sell it on a site like eBay for $5 or $6 dollars, it does not look to be in good enough condition to have it graded by NGC. Do not attempt to clean or "improve" the way it looks or you could lose all the extra value.
  21. While I have never done so my thought is that NGC would go ahead and remove them for you, however by doing this you run the risk of having your submission returned to you ungraded for not following the NGC guidelines for submissions. My suggestion is to contact customer service and discuss this with them, if you have a concern or physical issue that would prevent you from removing the coins from the holders I'm sure that they can work with you to find a solution.
