"More on "Shady Dealers"...

2007 W Burnished Silver Eagle, Sold Out Or Not??? I posted a note earlier today as to being surprized that the above mentioned SE was available when I placed my order today for the Bald Eagle Set. The mint person informed me that the demand was such that the mint had started producing more of them. There was a later post by kjohn that said the mint was out of boxes and now that they have more "boxes" the said eagles were being churned out again. My question is this: If kjohn knows this then I

My 2008 Silver Eagle Proof arrived today

Absolutely stunning This is without a doubt the finest Proof coin that I've received from the Mint. The detail is just stunning. I wish that my photographic skills were up to the task, but unfortunately, they are not. I can't wait to get this puppy graded.... PS: Sorry about the dust on the holder...:-)

CAC the numismatic Good Houskeeping Seal of Approval

Around and around the coins go where they stop nobody knows. I have been in pleasant conversation with the Wisconsin Collection who again states the premise that "CAC just puts a sticker on the third party grading companies holders to say that they were correctly graded or that they are "premium quality." Do we really need that?" I beg the Wisconsin Collection's pardon that I submit my response, to our private correspondance, in the public arena because I feel that the answer has importance

2007 W Silver Eagle Unc.

Its was in the box not the coin!! The mint never did sell out of the 2007 W Burnish silver eagle. They suspended sales only because they ran out of the packaging. Go Figure!! Once they secured more packaging they made them available again.

2008 Mint State Silver Eagles

They're re-designed, but did quality go to the birds? Has anyone else gotten Early Release, Mint State, Silver American Eagles from NGC yet? I know that MS69 coins are not supposed to be perfect. I mean they are, in so many cases, so close to perfect most of us can't tell the difference. But, from a roll of 20 coins, all MS69, the faces and fields of the coins are SO nicked, so visibly damaged compared to years passed, I am in total shock of the quality from not just the mint, but from NG

U.S.Mint Catalog service down

Ya know what really sucks? What really sucks for me, is I placed 3 orders Nov. 19th, and only received one. The other two are lost. Getting the information for the two lost orders was hard, because I could not access my account info. The C.N.R's (cert of non receipt) came in the mail yesterday. I finally found the hard copy receipts, so I was able to fill the forms out. Now, I hope they can sort this out as they renovate their site. And to add another twist, the two that did not show up, were

What we all went through yesterday 1/15/08

Hope NGC hears our crys After all the pain we went thru yesterday trying get on the line with the USMINT, I hope NGC has in the works to make a special designation for the Bald Eagle 3pc Proof Set. That would make up for the very sore fingers from dialing that same phone number over and over and over and over again! Happy Collecting and I hope all of you get thru with the USMint!

The Trials and Disapointments

I really don't know why I try.... Have been calling the Mint since yesterday...and the only answer I get is "we are unable to take your call at this time"...and of course, the web site is down.."due to a change in manangement"...I have resigned myself to being unable to purchase the Bald Eagle commen's. The service we get from them, especially considering the prices and profits they make, is really indicative of the shoddy government attitude prevalent today. And I continue to buy into it, b

To Conserve Or Not To Conserve

Is It better to remove the tiny spot or not From my last entry of my journal I mentioned a coin a 1925 1 krona that was in beautiful unc condition. what i failed to say is that this coin even though it has a wonderful chartwheel, but seems a little dull to me and i think that maybe a little conservation may help it along to a possible MS-66 and or better. And having a brass coin from Iceland that I sent to NGC last summer for grading that came back a MS-62 with note attached to it saying that

The joy of it all

Picked up the last of the Lincoln Memorials during HA Live on 1/15/08. I paid to much, but in the end it doesn't really matter. I have been waiting for a long time to drop a few hundred on the 1984 DDO Lincoln Memorial and the opportunity jumped out in front of me this afternoon. I happened to be checking out the Heritage Live auction to see if there was anything I could steal. Literally, the moment the live pop up screen opened there she was, a 1984 DDO MS-66 by PCGS. Not the most brillia

Bald Eagle Comemms!!

My offer from the mint... Greetings! Yesterday was a terribly wayward day for me professionally. Although I LOVE what I do for a living, sometimes it is hard to deal with people and things politically on the job..so I guess I could call it "a bad day". The homefront is always a place that I find peace and comfort, thanks to a great "partner in crime" a.k.a. "My Loving Wife". As I was sitting at home after work, the mail arrived, and in it was a brochure from the mint tauting "The 200

They are so close to me now....... I just checked my status of my order. They are in Quality Control. Next step is Shipping. They are finally coming home soon. I am so anixious to see the grade. This kind of makes up for what the mint did today on the Bald Eagle Series. I still trying to get through. Good luck to anyone who is. I will let you know how they graded out.

The Mint isn't thinking, nor are they "Customer Focused"

That is the flaw in thinking: That since they are in business to make money, the Mint would provide "customer service." When I received the mailing about the Bald Eagle coins on Saturday, I immediately went online to look (and even try to order). On Saturday afternoon, the 13th, the coins were online, to be "for sale" on 01/15/2008 at 12 noon, Eastern Time. So, I waited. Now, it seems to me that IF the Mint ACTUALLY planned the outage of the site because it was switching providers, it w

Re; What was the Mint thinking?

I agree with you "something is funny about this" I think the mint did this on pupose, Just like you I went to the mint website to order the Eagles, always I like to log on a few minutes earlier before mint items go on sale. The web site was working perfectly until 12:00pm on the nose then everything went down. I think they planned this ( that's our goverment ) Happy Collecting!

New Bald Eagle Coins

2008 is heating up Majority of collectors already called the mint at 12:00 eastern today. Before 12 the mint website was fine, now it is shut down because of the volume of customes it is recieving.I called the mint at noon using speed redial and so did my 4 other family members.I finally got through after 25 minutes of trying. The other family members were helping me out to get in touch with the mint. Now what was the big comotion about..The rare 3 coin set of proofs. The gold, silver, and clad proof

What was the Mint thinking?

Being an IT guy that works in marketing, I'm dumbfounded. The US Mint advertises the release of a series of very attractive coins for Jan 15th (Bald Eagles), and then decides that would be a great time to swap out their Web Service Provider. Hello??? I logged on to www.usmint.gov to place an order for a Proof Dollar and Half Dollar. I get past the Landing Page, and then see this Construction Page that says "Sorry. We are not up right now. We're switching providers. Please mail your request o

Yes, I really need CAC certification - Response

The original author was not knocking CAC ... The author of the original journal was not knocking or voicing displeasure with CAC, they are simply asking if we really need CAC. They are asking questions that we should all be thinking about and asking for ourselves. Your response makes me feel a need to defend this young person?s original intent. In reading the 2007 Registry Award article this person is a young numismatist and I commend him/her for taking the time to think about changes in our

Buy the Coin, Sell the Holder

How many times have you heard in your collecting experience a dealer or fellow collector say ?Buy the coin, not the holder.? Obviously, I?m referring to coins that have been professionally graded. There is much truth in this statement largely due to the fact that not all grading companies are created equal. Seasoned collectors are well aware that education is their best weapon against spending hard earned money on an improperly graded coin. If you spend the time necessary to learn about a spec
