You are correct Hoghead, The truth is Bill when it comes to any variety if you don't pay it wont say. So I think it was not asked for. They are both minor VAM'S that's for sure but not worth the extra cash to whoever sent them in.

Welcome to the forum, If you look here it will show you some RPM's and other variations. http://www.varietyvista.com/

Yes the 1897 was a real clean looking coin for a MS 64 it has a couple of very light marks that I think may have held it back from being graded a MS 65 but looking at it with my loupe the doubled 1 the pit marks on the back and the patina really caught my eye. I could not pass on these coins for that price. They are Both VAM'S the 1899 has open 9's. Now if I could find a 1895 and 1896 for that price I will be real happy..

Thanks Hoghead , They are not big money Morgan's but they look nice and fit my budget.

I think I did good today. I picked up this 1897 for $90 and this 1899 O for $70. The hologram on the 1897 is worn a bit and the holder on the 1899 has a crack on the back corner. All things considered the coins are very very nice and at that price it was almost like getting the 1899 for free.

“Average” coin collection?
J P M replied to The Neophyte Numismatist's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
The old me was a coin saver not a collector. Now I buy coins for there beauty and as a investment so I guess I am collector now For myself I try to work on one set at a time but when searching for a item I may find something for another set that is a deal I can't refuse so.... I am always working on more than one set now days. My BU ASE and my War Nickel are done mostly. In reality the sets will never be totally complete if there is always a better coin to be found than the ones I have so it is a never ending hobby LoL -

I got this one from a dealer who was going out of business but what Hoghead said was correct E-Bay has them all over the place. They make a clad set also it may be cheaper. -

1983-P Quarter Spitting Eagle?
J P M replied to Cresencio's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
As Bob said there can be many variations. If the hub tilled in the clash the curve would be in a slightly different location so yes there can be many of these out there. The question I would think is, it will only be worth a premium if it were on a AU, BU ,MS or Proof coin. All the coins I have seen posted are very worn and are worth Face value IMHO. I see stuff that is just plane junk for sale on the internet. YouTube hype does not help and It makes me sad that some one new to collecting will buy the coins thinking that it is something special when it is not. I think it makes it difficult for the good dealers to sell there stuff. I save any worthy variety's until I run out of space to store them because I like odd coins, -
This was waiting for me in the mail when I got back tonight . I have been looking for a reasonable graded 1903 but everywhere I look they seem to run a little high in price. I thought this was a good deal at $88 and I am very pleased it looks much nicer in hand than it did online.

Nothing wrong with a $24 free coin Patman , no matter how bad it is . Is it suppose to be Columbus at the wheel

I am with these two on that cent

Not a nice looking coin it looks like pewter, and I agree with RWB it is kind of morbid. A cool story my mom used to tell was this. Her dad my grandfather worked for the White Star Ship Line in England as a chef , he was assigned to the HMS Titanic for her first voyage but at the last minute he was transferred to another ship. Lucky for my mom and her 10 siblings I would say

Wow I am sorry you got a bad coin, but just at a quick look it is so fake the stars the dental and rim are screaming at my eyes.

So I went back to where I bought the other proofs and found this nice 1963 proof it is not a Cam but I am amazed at how mirror like it is. Quite a cool looking finish for a coin of that year. I have some 60s proof coins but not as chromed out as this one.

Very cool stuff Bill -
Ya I found these in a case at a antique store in Columbia TN. I may go look again and see if the quarter, Dime and penny are there also. LoL I saw these two coins while looking at a 1974 DD half but someone thought it would be worth more money if they just gave it a little cleaning. I hate it .I find wonderful coins out there and they end up being junk.
-
We were out shopping around and I found these 2017 proofs . I have a lot of older proof sets but not any newer single proofs samples and they just looked to nice to leave behind. They are not worth a lot but they were cheap and l liked them so who cares.

I think you coin is a good looking Nickel. It looks like it has been around the block for 140 years and has lots of scratches, it may have been summited for restoration but it looks like it may have been passed over. Sometimes the won't restore it if they feel it wont help the coin I have been told.

I have purchased coins form Great Collections and there has never been any paperwork with a coin or attribution marking on the slab indicating the coin had been through conservation or not.
