  1. Thanks Joe, Like everything Woods said if you are looking at the reverse it is called a DDR . Also if you can get a better shot with your phone I use a couple of books or something to lay the phone on to get a close shot. I did look up the 1990-D DDR and there is no reference ,not to say it is not a DDR but without better close ups it may be what we call ( DD ) Die Deterioration or ( MD ) Mechanical doubling, both of these happen in the minting of a coin and can fool the best of us without a good look.
  2. I would love to see a new find, I look at nickel rolls all the time. Please post a photo so we can see it Joe.
  3. The SMS coins are not proofs just nice BS coins and they all have some marks. It is to fuzzy a shot to give you a good answer I would say you got a little of both a greasy worn die . LoL
  4. Sorry to say it looks , Cooked and cleaned
  5. I don't think it will change the value, they are whatever the market will get you.
  6. I am very hard grader myself. Some of the slabed coins I think are overgraded. If I worked for a TPG everyone would hate me. I was looking at a MS 64 nickel the other day with no steps.. Ok I understand that but with hardly any columns, doors or windows. Hello, that was a slide under the table piece. I guess I am to fussy.
  7. Ya I think it happens to most of us. In the beginning I only want to save a little of this and maybe a few of those maybe one or two of that . LoL When I started the nickels it was just the war set short and sweet. Now I am working on the full set the other day you said something about 84 years of coins. Well the full Nickel set is over 200 coins and the full set with proofs is almost 300 coins so I may be at this for a while and I may need more room and money if I keep going.
  8. Wow a big batch of coins. Again good luck. I hope you get some winners to cover your costs. Sounds like you have a shop Rick ? I will have to look you up next time I am in Rock Hill.
  9. Get out must have been a treat even if it was Wally World. I hear what your saying. There are a lot out there. I have been saving any circulated Reds I find to put in some new Whitman folders. No MS coins just road warriors that I have been picking up over the years. Like this piggy bank 40 I found yesterday.
  10. What Mike said or a caped die. The caped die is all stretched out from taking a beating and UNUM is backwards which makes me think caped die. It looks like I can see the outline of Lincoln underneath it. A nice piece.
  11. Sorry I agree with Mike. I also wanted to point you have a 1980 D showing in this thread and that year only has a DD listing for a 1980 P.
  12. LoL That's in my price range . It's really funny how some Nickels are just a low value and others are out of sight. Before 64 are mostly higher and after is lower on quite a few. Then there are those that cost more to slab them than they will ever be worth in my lifetime. But now that I think about it all coins are like that in general.
  13. Thanks Rick, Good luck with you admissions. It will be a long road because I am a cheep old SOB . I try to get MS 64 or higher on most of my slabed nickels for under $20 Or at the most 1/3 of NGC or PCGS list price so it takes a lot of shopping. Sometimes I get a crazy deal like I picked up that 89 and some others in my set for $2 and that makes up for the ones I have to pay regular price for. It all works out in the end I guess I just cant afford to many at once.
  14. Welcome.Lacyweb. Well I do not see any of the markers of a DD but it is a worn 1980 with 42 years of road time so it may have contact marks that make it look like a DD. http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1980PDDO001.htm Here is one listing of a 1980 DD for you to compare it with. Nice pictures anyway next time try to post a full front and reverse of the coin first so we can get a idea of the overall look of the coin. You can have a DD on a coin but if the coin is badly worn out it will not be of any great value. Just a keepsake.
  15. I have the set in a book of circulated coins but only a few in graded slabs so far. The NGC Registry requires the complete set of 12 so it is still a work in progress.
  16. I got some more set pieces today a couple of FS Jeff's and a nice 1947 66 toner. I had to pay a little more than I like for the 1940 but I got such a good deal on the 47 and 89 it washed my tears away LoL I can't complain.
  17. Welcome Hess1978, I see you referenced a coin machine ? When we say Dryer coin it is not meant as a coin operated dryer, it is what we say for a coin that has been stuck somewhere that it has constant wear and reshapes the coin.
  18. Speaking of looks. I like the new avatar photo Hoghead The beard looks a bit longer and has a little gray.. It gives you that lifetime look of experience. I like it
  19. Sorry The photos are to fussy to see anything at this end. Is it in plastic I can see what looks like a scratched up plastic case?
  20. Oh, Thanks Alex. I just broke my own rule, let me rephrase . He looks like a past president with a wig on .
  21. I am a wondering about the bird on the reverse ? It looks more like a Hawk or Crow than a Eagle
  22. Welcome Nate, I have a few proof sets myself . it looks like you have more than just those spots it looks like more near the edges on both sides ? I can say that even though the mint is very carful when making the proof sets sometimes a speck of foreign material gets on a coin or is in the metal itself. After a while it will stain or corrode the metal.
  23. Remember folks you saw it here first on the NGC Forums. Georges nose Zit... LoL
  24. After a closer look we have a chip + dent Here is a single one and then one on top of another just to show there are more than one out there.
