  1. No hype really. The close AM is normal for a 1995 cent (business strike). I believe the only thing to look for on 1995 cents is a DDO on the Philly coins. Here is a link with more detail on the various close and wide AM coins.

  2. In recent weeks I have noticed that NGC has added a new slot in the complete Jefferson nickel registry set. I saw where the complete set went from 300 coins to 301 coins and it took me a few minutes to figure out what they added. The slot added is for a 1939 S (MS/business strike) with no reverse step variety attribution. There are already 2 slots for the 1939 S coins with both the Rev of 38 and Rev of 40 varieties. Coins with either reverse attribution will NOT fit into this slot. You have to find a coin that was graded before these attributes were assigned. NGC automatically assigns the reverse type for any new submission. Currently the NGC census shows 300 coins across all grades without a reverse variety shown on the label as simply 1939 S. I have to assume that a certain percentage of these 300 coins have been cracked out or resubmitted over the years to gain a reverse type designation so this figure may be decreased. Good luck and happy hunting to all my fellow Jefferson collectors.
