What does the NGC holder that contains the coin say its variety is?
I don’t want to sway anyones vote one way or another but I will post the label after a bit.

I picked up this 47 D/D piece recently. This is the only RPM that NGC recognizes listed as VP-001. CONECA lists this as RPM-001. You can see the first impression peeking out of the bottom of the second punch with the second being punched slightly counterclockwise. According to Variety Vista there are 2 more RPMs listed for the Denver pieces from 1947.
According to the various variety sites this is also listed as a DDR. I am certainly no variety expert by any means and I have really looked this coin over. I did find the one die marker they show which is this very small die gouge. The rest of it I just don’t see. Sometimes I wonder how they come up with some of these. Guess that’s why I’m not much on this doubled die stuff.
Here are a few links.

Not too far off from what they look like from the mint. So much smooth surface area on the obverse. They don’t stand a chance. Nice circ find.

I'm really not totally sure @Lem E as the reverse looks just as good. It is sitting in my SDB so I can't currently access it right now, but maybe I will revisit it again in the future and take another look. I remember sending it in and I know I didn't expect a 65 but I really though it was a solid 63 and maybe a 64. I do remember there wasn't a lot of chatter on it so maybe the graders didn't think it was fully struck??
It is one of my favorite coins though and looks great!
That’s a shame. You would think it would be pretty obvious why it got a 61. Still looks like a nice piece no matter what the grade is.

They probably withdrew it to be able to put out something much worse.

The US Mint has the opportunity to do a lot of cool things but they don’t. I would like to see something along the lines of a multi year reissue of the 7070 type set coins in the original composition, size and design. Give me that 1804 dollar on a nice silver planchet like it was intended. Reissue a 3 cent silver or a half dime in the correct size. Once I saw it was going to be released as a gold coin I became disinterested. I like gold coins but I would rather see a flying eagle cent in bright red copper than on a gold blank. Throw out a couple different designs per year. Collab with Dansco and have them make a new album for this or something. There are things the mint could do that would be interesting to collectors. A reissue of a commem from 2017 or another gold Kennedy or god forbid more Morgan and peace dollars in my opinion is not it. At a minimum, do something you haven’t already done.

You still have a fantastic collection though
Thank you. That always means a lot when it comes from fellow collectors.

I thought you to be pretty hardcore with the nickels @Lem E. I say that in a way as nothing but a high compliment, btw.
I appreciate it but I’m not that hardcore brother.

Definitely damage.

Does this mean to have a true complete nickel set I also need to get the coin from uncirculated rolls as well?
The set is big enough as it is. I think you would have to be pretty hardcore to do that.

I took the quiz... and somehow feel disappointed. In fact, cheated! If you're going to go through all the trouble of re-issuing the 1909 VDB, why wouldn't you include the S.F. mintmark? Some designs already enjoy current use. I have nothing against S.L. Walkers, but aren't they already being accommodated in bullion?
Some really interesting greatly appreciated but seldom seen examples are lost in the sauce while the Kennedy Half is promoted as one pick. Why aren't the ones being minted now being distributed for circulation? When's the last time someone even got one in change?
I'll not say anything more, but if you talk classic coins the first thing that comes to mind are "obsolete" coins which have long been withdrawn from circulation. Whole categories of wonderful series were overlooked. It's supposed to be a tribute to the 250th anniversary of the U.S. and instead of re-introducing the Two-Cent piece, the first to feature the motto IGWT, we've got apparatchniks shoving wild-haired coppers down our collective throats.
I am going to write the BEP and push for re-issuance of the "Educational Series" of notes.
Thank you @Lem E for the sneak preview!
Yea I thought you would be able to nominate anything and not have to pick from a list. I also wish they would do a re-issue of the coin as it was and not a gold coin unless it was a gold coin to start with.

I never knew these were tough, but I do understand that the circulation version is tougher than the matte version in the uncirculated set. Finding really nice ‘05-‘10 circulation pieces is important for completeness.
These were available through the mint in P&D rolls and bags too I think. I went through about 4 rolls and most of them were pretty marked up and lots of nicks. None of them looked great at all.
Another problem is that the TPGs have misattributed some of the satin finish coins for high grade circulation strikes. I have a top pop MS-68 6FS 2006 coin with a population of 2. The problem is that it is a satin finish coin from the uncirculated set with the wrong label. Makes me wonder if the other top pop is a satin finish coin as well. I have seen others like this. I can’t in good conscience put it in my set, but I have seen others that do have them in their sets.

So here is my question. If the mint packaging has the potential to tone these coins in an unattractive way, should they be removed from the packaging to preserve the coins natural state? I have seen both the 94 and the 97 nickels with the unattractive yellowish to sometimes brown toning. These satin finish coins don’t seem to respond well to this type of toning. It may be the pics but it kind of looks like these two coins are starting to tone on the reverse? I’m not saying they should be sent to a TPG for grading but do you just leave them in the mint packaging and hope for the best? For the record, I generally agree most things in OGP should be left in there.
