  1. No it wasn’t worth it , that coin damaged so bad on front (obverse) of the coin full of scratches looked like some took sand paper to it . Remember not to buy coins just because they are cheap , collecting isn’t about buying cheap coins all time. It takes me sometimes months saving up money to buy the coins I want to have a nice collection I wouldn’t waste time on cheapo wore down cull coins and that coin looks worse than a parking lot coin so scary I wouldn’t even carry it in my pocket . Sorry I didn’t sugar coat it , steer clear of coins like that save your money buy something nicer that you will appreciate more as well too
  2. Well the NGC coin in picture above isn’t even close to BU condition more like a basic UNC. Coin nothing to write back home about
  3. $15 coin in BU condition and you pay another $380 ! For a label in a slab wow ! Seems like a good deal ! NOT
  4. Coin Conservation is only worth it for more expensive type of coins or pattern pieces or scarce type of coin . I wouldn’t send in $80 Morgan for Conservation . However for raw coins there are dips out there that can remove some ugly toning (not all) . It’s risky for a new collector that doesn’t know what they are doing . Since you mention they are in slabs I wouldn’t waste my time on them just sell them off or trade them in for better coins
  5. Sometimes ordering any coin having it shipped through mail first class makes me a little nervous sometimes but so far I haven’t lost any coins in mail , but it risky business seeing some company name on top with wording “numismatic” “rare coins” “coins” too easy for theft to happen all post office worker has to do is scan the package been dropped off and walk off with your package … if I’m sending someone a coin I wouldn’t write coins or something on header but even tho insurance covers it still having the real coin in your hand is better than insurance payoff . Probably better send higher quality coins through registered mail or something have the person come to post office and sign for it right there on the spot
  6. @James Zyskowski nice Mexican Libertads the earlier years 1onza . They have some nice toning . I used to collect Libertads
  7. Surprise they offer you refund on 2 coins they should have buyer buy some insurance when buying coins “risky business” sending collectibles through any carrier . That sucks 2 of them were lost in mail (An honest employee would turn them in highly doubtful I agree there) then it just became theft on their part if they decide to keep something that is not their property
  8. @weiyan55555first off do not try to clean them and find a nearby dealer to do an appraisal for you you’ll need pay a fee for it , then ask dealer if any of them are grade worthy to send in for grading ? Some years Yuan Shikai Fatman are worth getting graded the pull in a nice premium … But if you have no intentions of selling the coins anytime sooner ? There is no rush to get them graded otherwise buy saflips keep the coins in comfortable room temperature like a bedroom closest with small safe , throw some silica gel inside the box with the coins they should last the rest of your life time if they are stored properly
  9. I know an original commemorative high relief Canadian 5 cent 1951 , comes with a very high price tag in MS condition
  10. I believe that’s a novelty coin if you look at bottom is says sunbury Canada . It doesn’t looks like the real Canadian 5 cent . It also says the big nickel on it sunbury I believe that’s mint products
  11. When you get’em @Woods020post a few of them ol’school holders coins up for us to see !
  12. I myself hunt for older fatty NGC holders especially in world coins which are more scarce than US old holders , make sure the slabs are intact no missing holograms or any cracks in slabs lose value there make sure look them all over they pull a slight premium over a regular newer graded slabbed coin . Depends on what series Morgans that you think will “upgrade” (keep in mind these older slabs may have been graded at time they had stricter tighter grading period, that’s why you see a good bit of older slabs getting CAC beans) you’ll expect to pay as little as anywhere from 5%-10% over premium … not too many old slabs left out there they are like buying antique cars !
  13. I believe it’s a few PCGS dealers who are dabbling around in German coin market and other world coin markets trying to establish a “PCGS only” market just like they’ve done with the US market . One German coin dealer I know I buy from time to time I believe he’s a PCGS dealer 99% of his inventory is graded by PCGS I see a lot nice pattern strikes and few hard to find German coins , proofs , scarce dates and so on … but the prices are scary , that’s thing with world coins hard to put a solid price on something once its get graded “top pop” comes along with a wacky made up price to see who bites the bullet to buy it
  14. @Coinbuf I’m starting to see higher prices with PCGS German coins ! As well it’s not just US coins . They are claiming higher prices by Population reports I see some nice german coins in PCGS holders also see a lot nice German coins in NGC holders as well , I’m still not sold on buying by Population reports , there still a lot nice German raw coins out there that just hasn’t been graded yet , I myself own a lot of German coins some of them are grade worthy but I keep them raw for now I have no intention of selling them anytime soon so having them grading isn’t just practical to me right now
  15. I forgot about those two precious metals indeed they are the newest type of metals to invest into for now if someone takes precious metal investment serious
  16. The real bummer in precious metals is the folks who invested heavily into Platinum. At one time platinum was above gold melt value , platinum suffered and took a deep nose dive over the last few years gold shines above all .
  17. Last time I dumped silver back on market was back in 2011 when silver almost topped $50 an ounce … so far I haven’t sold much silver since then hopefully in next 5 or 8 years silver goes up and over $40 or so an ounce I’ll unload more back on the market right now silver is still cheap and easy to get
  18. @Gofiga I ain’t no expert I don’t consider people to be experts in coin collecting but some folks have spent their entire life studying and collecting certain coin series or specific type of coins that earned them a title to call themselves “experts” … To me a majority of us are just humble collectors that have a passion for collecting coins , And we read and read and study and study as much as we can about coins so we don’t have to ask so many questions . knowledge is power . what type of coins are you interested in collecting to start off ? US coins ? World coins ? you want something that appreciates in value that has a good market that is mostly in demand so you can make a profit is you decide to sell ? I don’t recommend new collectors spending hundreds of dollars on “raw” coins unless they know what they are looking at and knowledgeable about a specific coin they plan to purchase raw . Otherwise familiarize yourself with a specific coin dearies and learn what the prices are going for who buying and paying at prices before you even think about purchasing a coins
  19. I’m no expert , never ever will call myself an expert when it comes to coin collecting …. But for world coins I’d go with NGC , now both PCGS and NGC as you know they do not grade on the exact standard if you look at if you look at enough PCGS coins and NGC coins of same coin and grade compare the two you’ll start see why both companies establish a grading market and standard of their own… Not saying they both are better than each other (I don’t drink the PCGS “cult” kool-aid thinking every coin my collection must be PCGS it’s worth more money it’s more superior than every other coin out there graded by a different grading company) but I own both PCGS and NGC and ANACS coins . However I’m a NGC member , a guy I work with is a PCGS member so we both can send coins if we need through each other … I haven’t sent in raw coins for grading for long time, most of time I just buy the coin already graded and keep my raw coins raw as they come
  20. Seems like he’s retiring everything comes to an end nothing is built to last forever
  21. @Quintus Arrius seems like you want highest rooster you can get for the highest grade achievement ? Only way do that is to look at the roosters in person before buying . When I order coin or bid on coins in European auctions , I know not to have my hopes set too high for very high grade coins when the dealer is describing the coin showing a photo with a coin or a medal that has few carbon spots on it. When a dealer overseas says a coin is MS65-MS70 (I don’t know why they use MS70 grade classic coins don’t grade out that high anyway) . For classic coin to even get MS65 that coin has be in best shape minimal bag marks or nicks and proper desire toning (not dullish aged hazy toning). Most of time when I win or buy a coin that dealer stated that is BU it’s mostly a typical UNC. That will probably grade out MS62-MS63 … Thats okay with me I didn’t over pay for the coin and it’s for my Raw coin collection I don’t have intentions having any graded. Overseas they have different “style” of grading they probably think us Americans are just too picky with our coin collecting hobbies when it comes to owning the “best of the best we can get graded” but I don’t fall for dealers overseas or any dealer even in USA saying a raw coin will grade out to be MS65-MS70 over the internet with a few pictures
  22. Old post that was resurrected, I’ve noticed a few old post popped up today on here don’t know why
  23. I see it this way the value of ASE or royal mint products is equal to same as 1oz silver private round to begin with a lot of other people feel that way as well when it comes to modern silver today … When you take it dealer they don’t care where it came from if it’s 1oz silver it’s 1 oz silver to them they will pay accordingly to that they don’t care … However the market does have some interesting “graded” bullion that does sell among the newer collectors at prices way above melt price , I myself collect some modern silver coinage because I like the design on the coin sometimes we all get tired of looking at older classic coinage we take a step out to buy something a little newer to look at . But you’ll never ever see me paying hundreds or thousand dollars for MS70 bullion coin I don’t need waste money that bad to build a registry set to gain some bragging rights “look at me ! Oooga booga” I’m master collector I have all 70’s but to each their own take that what is driving the market up when it comes to ASE or how about the new Morgan dollars ? Another thing to watch out paying very high prices for silver coins is spotting issues that’s a killer like RWB said gets some spots on it nobody will want it . Spotting is beyond control sometimes
