VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in 1929 Buffalo Nickel Price Estimate
Sure. Or uranium. Place it under your pillow to store it. The incredibly huge majority of people who play with precious metals get their behinds kicked. Anyone who gets into coins for “lucrative” reasons is a foole.

I’ve been doing it for 61 years. I was grading coins waaaaaaay before there was an Internet to misinform me. You need to look at thousands of coins. NOT PICTURES OF COINS! Coins. In your hand. In proper light.

VKurtB got a reaction from powermad5000 in 1957 D Wheat penny mint mark error
What makes any error or variety valuable is an excess of demand over supply. Put another way, if someone, hopefully MANY someones, are willing to fork over “currency of the realm” in order to obtain an error or variety coin, then it will have value. But that is NOT what is happening in the VAST majority of cases. We have seemingly gazillions of roll searchers out there occasionally unearthing a truffle (not unlike the metaphorical blind pig), and their precious find is greeted with either a lengthy yawn or an excessively polite, “gee, that’s neat”. But unless people are peeling off greenbacks to buy these precious little nuggets, it’s never going to be worth the time and resources used for the hunt.

You are approaching wisdom, grasshopper.

Just understand up front that the likelihood of finding one of the rare pieces is infinitesimally small. They’re called rare coins for a very valid reason.

VKurtB got a reaction from Jason Abshier in Robbery in front of Denver Mint 1922
I have not, but I have OBSERVED ANA Chief Judge Joe Boling carrying concealed in Pittsburgh, Phoenix, and Colorado Springs. He admits “feeling naked” in Chicagoland, Rosemont actually, due to the prohibitions there. He’s an Indiana dude.

Yes, this is true. In my state, I may concealed carry even WITHOUT a permit, but the 67 county sheriffs still issue them for out of state reciprocal purposes. It helps when I go back to Pennsylvania or in Indiana, for example.

Worse. At least in politics there are basically two versions of truth. On the Internet, there’s thousands and thousands of lies for EVERY truth.

VKurtB got a reaction from powermad5000 in 1969 S penny DDO, or no DDO I can't tell
There are a few “lesser” doublings in 1969-S cents. But the “good one” is so obvious that no glass in even necessary. There are also some widely spaced strike doubling examples in 1969-S. I have one. I saved it because it almost caused me a heart attack, but it was NOT hub doubled.

Amateur only in the technical definition sense of the word. Rank? Not that we know of.

Oh for crying out loud! PLEASE STOP THIS 1964 SMS baloney! You don’t have one. Period. Full stop. End of story. Ross’ first photo shows an unusually messed up 1964 half dollar. People need to get a grip!

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in What does "Quality Control/Finalized" mean in grading process?
Hmm. I have never had an order that NEEDED anything changed. I guess my ability to CORRECTLY fill out an NGC form makes me a unicorn?

Or…, hear me out please, you (the OP) could put error and variety hunting aside and search for the best coins possible. Just a thought.
-
VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in Is this a double die ?
It actually DECREASES the collector value of the coin.
-
VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in Is NGC correct or mistaken about this Spanish Real?
‘Stralian, mate, down under. It was, however, a shilling, so the error is forgivable. And she’s a right looker, too.

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in A little something for Goldfinger
Yeah, maybe the CCP needs gold for bullets when they invade Taiwan. Me? I’d prefer to collect broken fuselages from downed Communist Chinese planes.
