I have that SINKING FeelinG

That it's DejA Vu All Over Again. OR Let Me Rant A Bit. A while back I purchased a 1958 Canadian Dollar from a dealer on Ebay. I tried to register the coin and it turned out someone still had it registered. Okay, minor annoyance, it seems to happen a lot here. Then by chance, I noticed a post from another member explaining how he had finally "tracked down" the dollar that had (disappeared) several years ago when it was lost during shipping from his dealer. In fact, he had ordered all of t

LET ME APPOLOGIZE PUBLICLY

I GUESS BY ASKING FOR PRAYERS I WAS SOMEHOW WRONG! I AM THE ONE WHO A FEW DAYS AGO ASKED FOR PRAYERS ON THE TWO ROLLS OF 1987 SILVER EAGLES, TO GRADE OUT WELL. I AM DISABLED AND STRUGGLE WITH MY FINANCES FROM WEEK TO WEEK AND THOUGHT THAT MAYBE A FEW MEMBERS WOULD PRAY THAT GOD WOULD BLESS MY FAMILY AND MYSELF. I RECEIVED A NASTY RESPONSE FROM A MEMBER, I WON'T NAME ANY NAMES BUT BY READING A FEW OF THE PREVIOUS JOURNALS I AM SURE YOU COULD FIGURE IT OUT. THIS MEMBER SAID HE WOULD "PRAY THA

WOW

Boy was I put n my place! Hello, Just wanted to thank a fellow collector for pointing out the errors in my ways. He knows who he is. As it was pointed out, I am on the road to hell as a matter of fact I took away from his message that I am the conductor of the train! The way the original post was worded we were all supposed to pray he got lots of high grade coins for him to sell. And keep 1 for his set. After his response I was informed that he would even sell 1 if that is what he got

A Disappointing Re-grade, but with a Silver Lining

What I wouldn't give to know the criteria by which my coins are graded. At least I have some solace knowing my coins are consistently graded. In December of 2009, I bought a MS-64 1917 Type 1 Full Head, Standing Liberty Quarter. I remember my glee when I reported the same in a post and suggested that I might submit it for a re-grade. My SLQ is blast-white and has good luster. Additionally, it has extremely sharp devices with very few contact marks. To go with a full head, are full toes and fin

One more to add

This is a really nice Mint State 65 My latest purchase arrived today. An 1879 S Rev. of 79 Morgan Silver Dollar in MS 65. I am really pleased with this acquisition as this coin is super in appearance. So another new neighbor arrives in "Morgan Park" and we welcome him with open arms !!!!

Collecting Goal For 2010

I love the competition! I love the NGC website, the points and the rankings. This helps to make the hobby even more fun. I have decided that my goal for 2010 will be to end the year inside the 2000 ranking. As of now, that would require 10,000 points. I figure that with everyone else upgrading and adding to their sets this year, I would probably need about 12,000 points to be safe. I have a few plans for getting there, including completeing my PF70 Presidents set and my PF69 State Quar

The 2000 $1 with 10c obverse MULE A classic decimal rarity in high demand. Just before this coin was to appear in the single bible of Australian coins "Greg McDonald's Pocket guide to Australian coins and Banknotes" I decided to buy a couple of high grade mules I got this one.. now sold it at great profit Lesson for the day. PUBLIC awareness of an investment coin will push the price up far quicker than anything else. I bought this coin for a reason, and it paid off I have another.. w

The One That Got Away

A Fish Story of Another Kind 10 seconds to go, my finger was poised on the send button, I had already filled in my bid amount. 9 8 7 6 FIVE, I hit the send button, my $130.00 bid ready to obliterate my foes when..... goshdarnit, I had to confirm my bid on the next screen and my prize, my MS64 1925 Mercury Dime, had been claimed by another eager bidder for a measly $95.17. Next time I will hit the send button at the 12 second mark. Yup, that's my new strategy. http://cgi.ebay.com/1925-Mer

Caught in a Conundrum

to unslab or leave slabbed? Since I finished up my Walker Short Set I've decided to take a break from higher priced coins and registry hunting. Instead I've started 2 albums and am really enjoying working on them. A little insight into how I'm building my Barber Half Set........ I really, really like the look of a Barber in the VG8-10 grade to VF30 range. The reason I'm not hunting for higher grades is for several reasons. One is obviously the money involved. Barber halves are a relatively

Broke into the 200's!!

With new additions I'm there HELLO!, I am buying a few more Roosevelt FT's today. With these additions it will put me in the high 200's (overall rank), but in there at least. Picked up 3 more coins for Rosie set. Got a 58,63, 63D all 66 FT. I will never be too close to the top ranked, but when done (year 20??), it will be a solid set. My heirs will be proud to have such a med-high quality set. All white, no toning allowed. (Hope I didn't tweak anyone with toning comment, Sorry) I prefer as

The trouble with slabs....

They take up so much room! ) I realized a little while ago that slabbed, certified coins sure do take up a lot of room in a safe deposit box. Not that I am complaining, mind you. I love my coins and I love knowing that they are not fake. I also am blessed to have the ability to collect. That is something I do not want to take for granted. I have gotten to the point where I need a larger safe box, as the lid is popping off of mine due to the volume of coins. Someone would make a killi

The Original Pregnant Chicken

Precursor to the 'skinny chickens' seen today. I guess eagles were better fed back in the day or maybe they just wanted to be able to put the word CENT across their breast. Couldn't pass this coin up even though the funds to buy have temporarily dried up. I've been looking for this coin for some time, but the specimens I had found left something to be desired as far as being able to read the reverse. This coin has a nice strike with no major distractions and fits nicely in my ancestry set.

Been Awhile!!

Damned Priorities!!! Greetings all! It has been quite awhile since I last added a journal entry or even checked in here to read any other journals. NOT that I don't love being a member here, just that life has a way of making one busier than normal. I am trying to finish all of my Undergraduate studies as well as work full time and be a husband and father, so my time here on this great site has been limited as I try to juggle everything. My passion for the Silver Eagles has not les

My NGC PF69 Statehood Quarter Set

should i keep it sell it or even trade it Yesterday I finally got the last coin to finish out my NGC PF69 Statehood Quarter Set and almost half way done with my NGC PF70 Statehood Quarter Set. I just started my PF70 after I got my territories PF70 and I plan on getting the National Parks in NGC pf70 when they come out also as well as trying to get the quarters before the statehoods. So do you think I should do the same with the PF69 or should I get rid of it (sell/trade) or leave it as i

First day quarter release..... I have been collecting coins since about 1970. I have bought hundreds of coins along the way. But the only thing I've never figured out, is why I would want to sell a coin. If I bought because I wanted it, then I probably still want it.... I have worked on getting a full set of proof sets since the begining, and now just lack a couple of the early years. I am also working on completing a set of proof American Eagles. I love the PF70UC models myself, but that will

Starting My Journal

What do I talk about? Hmmm. I haven't been at this for very long - about a year now so I've still got a lot of things to learn when it comes to buying, selling and collecting coins. So far, it's been mostly inexpensive coins that 'caught my eye'. I have a few coins that are rather expensive. I've also bought a bunch of new coins that are not slabbed.

The Heart Aches of Coin Collecting

Just Checked NGC POP Report Now After reading the new report for coins graded by NGC for Iceland. I became depressed over what I seen .....A complete set of 1940 proof coins which I have been searching for in the past six years of collecting Icelandic coins from the Kingdom Era 1926-1942. NGC had at one Time graded all but the 1 Eyrir before I started this collection and hoped that they would show up at some point, that never came. Last year in July a 1940 and a 1946 proof sets came up for auc

I'M BAAAAAACK!!!

I love the way coins are graded too. Hello everyone.......oldies,goodies, and newbies You shouldn't worry about the crappy silver Eagles. There are way too many to mean anything. I have them, but only so I can say that, truthfully. If you think they grade thouands of coins per week, and every coin is scrutinized by at least 3 graders and all use a 5x anything.......I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. 1950 Jefferson Nickel NGC MS67

Obtained a 1950 Jefferson Nickel NGC MS67 from andrewscoins on E-Bay for $156.77 and 201 points The auction was one using a gavelsnipe bid of $175 for the following E-Bay auction: andrewscoins Item number: 120545562780 Item location: Delray Beach, Florida, United States After receiving the coin, it is certainly not good for the grade. Significant planchet flaws exist and the coin has more than it's fair share of marks. I grade the coin MS66 at best.

Peace Reins Tonight

Just upgraded my gallery pictures not all yet 80% Wouldn't you just know it, I just get my pictures update on my Peace dollar collection and they are a lot better than they were. IKE Variety If there is a variety in 1972 I'd also like to know what it is as I'm trying to make sure I have them all. I do know that my Dansco album doesn't have a space for a variety in 1972. The varieties are in 1976 and the way to tell the difference is in the letter size. Either narrow or fat letters. If anyone has better information on any other varieties please let me know also.
