I'M BAAAAAACK!!!
I love the way coins are graded too.
Hello everyone.......oldies,goodies, and newbies
You shouldn't worry about the crappy silver Eagles. There are way too many to mean anything. I have them, but only so I can say that, truthfully. If you think they grade thouands of coins per week, and every coin is scrutinized by at least 3 graders and all use a 5x anything.......I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
HOW NAIVE ARE YOU PEOPLE???
We collect coins as a hobby.
They grade coins as a business.
DO THE MATH!!! MORE COINS=MORE MONEY
Try to get a "good" coin graded. See what you get then.
Check all the PF or PR 70 coins in either PCGS or NGC for the Canada $20 silver Commems. Not enough for one hand. A coin struck almost by hand, and handled as a piece of art rather than a coin, gets a 69 or lower? Most mintages are 25K or less too. It's a travesty to the process. Canada did get the Olympic medals too!
I just lost a 1 of 10 mintage, proof coin, graded a 64. It's too bad that between the grader and encapsulation, it got fingerprinted on both sides. I was offered $100 for it. It's $600+ raw. Try to find me another in OGP to send in. Mine now is mere scrap metal. You all worry(too much)about a lousy $35.00 coin that has more reputation than value. ASE set prices are tumbling.
I grant this. If you pay for a 70, you should get a "PERFECT COIN". If the trend of eyeball grading continues, the industry will suffer. DON"T BUY THEM!!! SEND THEM BACK UNTIL YOU GET A 70.
You want the coin, but they have your money. Time to switch things around. I am almost done with my sets. Raw coins are running out. I will update and upgrade as necessary with graded issues. All my dealers have a decent return policy, so I feel quite confident as to quality. Buying from reputable dealers is a key also.
I have some fine graded sets. Hopefully they will retain some value in the future. I feel badly for those that have to go through this, as I have been there.
NGC, PCGS, or whatever. If you don't like it......don't settle.
Buy the coin and not the slab. If it is mis-graded, they do have the BBB and Attorney Generals. Junk is junk. Caveat Emptor!
Keep up the good journals. I can see things are pretty much status quo.
