My RE to the less than honest.

Swindlers Lawyers and Thieves OH MY!!!!!!!! Dear Journal: I believe that what ever you are going to do sell, give away or crack out, I repeat what ever you are going to do, remove the coin from your registry. That?s what I do and the only right thing to do. The world is full of crooks, cheats, swindlers and being part of the world in general why wouldn?t we have our share. Being a member of our society doesn?t automatically bestow honesty and integrity on you. You have to have them before you

EAC Convention - Saturday (Day 3)

The disease is called Copper Numismaticitis Although EAC is, I think, the largest numismatic specialty club, the "show" aspect of its annual convention is on the small side. What would draw me back to Annapolis for a third day? Well, for starters, the bourse is dominated by copper, and more quality copper than can be seen at one of the mega-shows. But more than that, the overall program is full of interesting and informative events, and there is a personal element that makes a day/night contra

When do you release a coin sold

I had a buyer try and register a coin, he just won on ebay I try and keep a coin in my registry until the new owner gives me feedback. Once I sold a coin on eBay and the new owner decided to list it in his registry right away. He didnt even pay for it! Another time a guy who bought the coin, listed it on his registry and then returned it to me. When I tried to re-register the coin, NGC would not allow it!? So when is the correct time to release a coin from your registry?

Half Way There and No Turning Back Now !!!

Half Full or Half Empty This Registry Set is Goin' Strong !! Well I have reached a personal milestone today with the addition of yet another registry coin into my Washington Quarter Set . I now have by count 50% of the set listed . It's been MORE fun than I ever envisoned and I am even more excited now than when I began in early March . I will soon be listing some better dates as they arrive back from NGC , coins that were previously graded and slabbed by the likes of PCI and ANACS ...which in

RE Kamakazy

Don't Blame You! It has taken alot of effort and alot of money just to get to where I'm at in the registry and it is nothing short of fraud to electronicly boost someones property. I register every slabbed coin I get and when I sell them on Ebay I keep them registered until the rightful owner receives it in order to keep some jack@#$ from "borrowing" it. It may be a slight problem but at least only people who have a right can use the number. This also allows people to look it up and verify the

EAC Convention - Friday (Day 2)

Good stuff... Friday morning the car started again, and we were off to Annapolis for the second day of the EAC convention. My wife went along to go on a Historic Walking Tour of Annapolis led by John Kraljevich, who grew up there. Later in the day, she recounted much of it as we walked around the historic area and had dinner. When my wife boarded the shuttle bus, I went back to the lot viewing room. This time, it was to see the Dan Holmes middle date large cents, which are up for auction in

EAC Convention - Thursday

Nearly stranded in Annapolis As I start writing this, the EAC (Early American Coppers) Annual Sale (i.e., auction) is probably winding down. I decided to skip that last event because I didn't like any of the coins enough to consume money I've been trying to save for a lot or two in the sale of the Dan Holmes middle date large cents next month. But there was a lot I did attend. I left home around 8:15 AM on a foggy Baltimore Thursday morning to get to Annapolis for the 9 AM grading and counte

Money Is The Only Object And Obstacle

Coins or food ? more difficult choices. Well, I cannot say my collecting has slowed down any but the additions to my collections have been rather slow in coming. As always, lack of resources is the biggest obstacle. I won?t by coins on credit. We?ve worked to hard to get ourselves out from under the credit cards. I will not even begin to talk about all of the deals I?ve had to pass by for lack of funds. But true to my nature, I have not been idle and my collection is still growing albeit slowi

A "Rarity" Comparison that may surprize you...

There really is "no comparison"... Greetings Collectors, I went to the bank yesterday and brought home all of my Franklin halves so I could spend the weekend taking a close look at all of them. I then for the first time actually looked at the census to see just how scarce some of the dates throughout the series were in "gem" MS-65 with the "full bell line" designation. I knew that several of the dates were very scarce but the actual numbers really surprized me. This being my favorite silver

Modern world coins

The coin community appears very U.S. centric Having only started to collect coins in the last two years, I am relatively new to the hobby. One thing that I am curious about is how seemingly focused most U.S. collectors are on U.S. coins, particularly as it relates to modern bullion pieces. I have a fledgling collection of China Panda gold coins and also the U.S. First Spouse series. One thing that surprises me is how hard it is to find reliable price data on World Coins. Numismedia a

"One Very Nice Chunk of Silver"

Unless "extraordinary" this will be my last photo of any Silver Bars... Greetings Collectors, I had a few minutes as several $2.50 Liberty Gold coins I am currently watching on eBay are a little while from ending so I just wanted to share a photo of the "centerpiece" of my silver bar collection. I made mention of this bar in a post of a few days ago but with it pictured with all the others, it could not be seen very good. This very heavy bar is 4-inches long and 1 1/2 wide X 1 1/2 inches thi

Some additions to my collections!

Added some very nice commemoratives! Hi everybody, I just wanted to update everybody on my new purchases over the last few weeks. 1986 Statue of Liberty 50c MS69 2006 Ben Franklin Founding Father MS70 2007 Little Rock MS70 2010 Disabled Veterans MS70 2010 Disabled Veterans PF70UC The Statue of Liberty I purchased raw and I thought it had a good chance at a 70 but it was not to be. My Disabled Veterans though did very well. 4 out 5 of the MS came back 70 and 3 of 4 of the Proofs c

Once you start collecting, you keep on collecting memories with them.

Before I was a member of the American Legion and I was a member of the United State Army, I was a Boy Scout. I just submitted the both of the Boy Scout commemorative coins for Grading. We all, including myself, try to remember when we started collecting coins. If we can remember back that far. I know I started before I was ten years old because I tried to get a Merit Badge In collecting coins. I received and still have a token of the 60th year of Scouting. My dad had and still has a collect

More Purchases, Another Decision

it's so nice being out of debt. Hi everyone, I guess I should say I'll be out of debt in the next week or so, as I still owe on one credit card, but I feel it will be paid (hopefully) in the next week or so. I'm quibbling on the amount I owe, but I'm confident both parties involved can come up with an equitable solution. I've been working on my main goal for 2010, my Franklin half set. (As a sidelight, I started a proof Franklin set, but I have no timetable on when I might really starting

Slowing Down A Bit

But not stopping. This past Sunday my Wife and I purchased, for me, a 2007 Mustang. I have had a passion for Mustangs since my earliest years and owned a 1966 for a time in the 80's. Until 2005, I considered the last good Mustang to have bee produced in 1972. Long story short, when the 2005 redesign hit the streets, I promised myself I would have a Mustang by the time I was 50 (2008), but with other spending priorities arising, I sort of let the dream go and almost thought it wouldn't happen.

Broke my own rules

eBay may not be the most trustworthy source of coins, but there are ways of getting amazing deals. I am hunting for a 2008 Silver Proof Kennedy, PR70 on eBay. I bid on one, but I broke my own rules of engagement. I missed winning the coin by 50C. This takes time and timing, so it may not work for everyone, but if you do it enough times you WILL find great deals. When you find an item that you want DON'T BID ON IT! Use the Watch this item function and keep an eye on the coin. Decide the h

Floored by the Conservation Society

What will collectors think in 100 years? I just read NCS's article on conserving carbon spots. http://www.ncscoin.com/news/enews/2010/April/article1.asp Wow. When is conserving conserving, and when is conserving cleaning? The great thing about some coins that were cleaned 80 years ago is that they've had time and circumstances to tone again. But put a newly conserved coin into a slab, wait 80 years, and in 2090, they won't have changed a lick. What will collectors think then? I sup

OF COURSE!!

Just when I thought things were going good! Hello everyone, I haven't entered into conversations or added anything significant to my collection. I just got a prime coin back, and wouldn't you know it. The Registry is down. Oh well.....I can wait. Congratulations to Todd for his diligence, and persistent attitude. It does pay off! Well, I am off to find a few more winners for the December deadline......Planning ahead! Good luck and happy collecting to all!

If only this Franklin had "Full Bell Lines"...

It would join the only other "one coin" in existance... Greetings Collectors, Just wanted to share a recent purchase. I picked up a nice group of Full Bell Line Franklins on eBay recently along with two MS 66's that were not full bell line coins. This is one of them. This 1953-S in "Full Bell Lines" is the "Holy Grail" of all Franklins. There are only a handfull in MS 65 FBL and only one in MS-66 FBL by both of the "top two" graders. The Endless Journey

Morgan Madness I?ve collected coins since the mid 50's when my mom gave me a few Indian Heads, 1 Flying Eagle, and a very worn 1868 2 cent piece. My interest in numismatics has had peaks and valleys since that time, but I still have those coins. I delivered newspapers between 1959 and 1965 and managed to salt away some silver halves even though part of me was fighting the ?saving? part. Eventually, I started to collect in earnest and Morgan Dollars became my favorite. These huge, silver dis

FINALLY MADE IT!!!

Hit the top 10! I love Roosevelt's Good Evening, After several months of intense searching I have made it to the ranking of 10th in the Roosevelt Dimes Proof. After completing the proof sets 99-09, last year, I had a good start on the 65-date proof dimes, so decided that I wanted to try to get to the top 10 ranking and I am there. The hard work starts now! Holding on to the spot. Upgrades will be quite costly and difficult to find. (cost effectively that is) It breaks my heart that in or
