looking for a 1 oz gold

im not sure if this is the place for this... I apologize if this is innapropriate for this but i have been really dying for a 1 oz gold coin, whether it be a buffalo or eagle. I just think they are beautiful! Anyway, i decided today that i would like to try and trade. I have a 20" 14k gold figarro necklace that weighs exactly 42 grams, or in coin i have a PCGS certified XF45 1909 s VDB lincoln penny, PCGS 1914 D graded VG 10, 1909 s I.H. in an old green PCI holder graded VF 20, lets see.... al

Oldest one yet

1760 years old horse coin I have been looking at the ancient coins for a while, trying to find one with a strong strike and with enough history to merit a position in my horse-themed set. There are several ancient coins from Greece featuring the winged horse, but most of these Pegasus coins are well out of my budget. Some of the very old "quadrigus" Roman coins feature a chariot being drawn by 4 horses (thus the QUAD part of the name), but again these are often priced for several hundred dol

A small addition to my 50c Commemoratives

and at a great price! Hi everyone, Just wanted to share my latest purchase...a proof 1996 Olympics Swimming 50c piece. I have been looking for the 1996 swimming and soccer coins for the last few months but I only found ones that were way over FMV. When this one came along on Ebay, the seller's pic still had the sticker price of $44 displayed on the slab. I contacted him and said that I would pay his asking price but he refused. Now get this...his reason was that the sticker price did not r

Coin Show Weekend!

And now a dimemna... I've been working on selecting my very best dimes for another submission to NGC. Still waiting on the 70-D DDR and Broadstruck 71-P Roosies to come back from NCS conservation/NGC grading, but now I'm getting antsy to submit more top grade coins to NGC. I have the "save" pile whittled down to about 20 coins that I believe are top grades and had planned to whittle this pile down to 8 or 10 coins for my next submission. Generally, the local coin shows don't produce much i

100 Greatest Set

A nice collection. I saw the newest set of 100 Greatest coins and thought that it was referring to classic coins. I read in Numismatic News that it is referring to modern coins. At that point, I thought that it would be a pretty fun set to colelct. Although it still looks like a fun set to collect, I can say that the majority of the coins are way out of my price range. Coin number 2 is the Sacagawea/Washington Mule. I believe 11 known. To anyone that can complete a set, I take my hat

I looked back at my first journal entry and what a surprise !

The name of this company is 'NGC', not 'NGS'!! Hi, all I hope everyone is doing well... and you're collections are moving along! Now that I know what company I'm dealing with (-: I can move on. Today, I am going to pack up 5 coins and send to NG? (I think that's what I will call them from now on). Is it good luck, bad luck, no luck at all, proper, or improper to tell what coins you are sending in? Well, I am, anyway because I am so excited. 1 - 1993 $2 - 2 ounce silver Kookaburr

A Healthy Diversion and a Tribute to Manned Space Flight

After purchasing an 1893-S Morgan for my collection, it is time for a brief break to pursue a newfound love. Greetings everyone, with a little encouragement from E4norbi, I have found a new appreciation and love for the Eisenhower Dollar. It?s not that I got up one morning to discover I liked the Eisenhower Dollar, but rather it?s something that has developed over time. In other words, it is a culmination of events along the way ending with E4norbi?s latest post to propel me over the top. T

COLLECTING VARITIES

Has anyone at NGS even hear of varities? I compalained to NGC about the fact that they do not make room (slots) for major varities in competative sets. To be specific I asked for an additional slot for a 1902 silver 5 kopek, Bitkin #178 Small Crown or a #179 Large Crown and got the stunning reply from Mr. Garcia that they don't recognize the difference and I should just enter the one with the highest grade. I guess I should just throw the other one away since it doesn't mean anything to NGC

NGC MS67 Red 1972 Lincoln Memorial Population of 15

Upgrading and filling in the blanks Hi everyone. Just added this nice example of a NGC MS67RD 1972 Lincoln Memorial to my registry sets. With a NGC population of 15 and almost half off the list price I could not resist. Not the highest registry point value but still top grade. A lot of the Lincoln Memorials from the 70's have low registry point values which I don't understand since most of them still have low populations. Still needed it for my registry set, therefore I thought it worth t

Who owns my coin I just brought?

Coin enter is own by someone else. What to do... My surprise when I entered my 2004 JEFFERSON 5C HANDSHAKE NGC PF70 ULTRA CAM into the registry only to find that the person who sold it to me still has it up in their coin collection or the person who sold it to him has. Now I have to wait till NGC contacts the former owner and he/she releases it. Or I will be pissed off. This is the second time this has happen. The frist time I contacted the seller and he removed the coin that day. God bless hi

A few More Exciting Recent Finds in Pocket Change !!

And some perplexing questions I can not answer about a Penny .... Hello Fellow Collectors : I have posted a photo of some pocket change finds from this past week . A 1960 Roosevelt Dime , a 1920 Lincoln Penny in FINE , one 1943-P Jefferson War Nickel , a 1966 Kennedy Clad Half , a 1917-P Buffalo Nickel ( yes I nicodated it to bring out that well worn date ) and finally a 1955 Lincoln Cent in a very un-usual uncirculated condition ....even stranger it's a Poor Man's Double Die Variety with the

A couple newbies

Been a while since I've written... I was away the past week or so, taking a break from work and visiting some family. I ventured back to where my parents and siblings all live in the middle of the Great Plains, where temps were over 110 more than half of the week I was there. Needless to say, I spent most of my time indoors as I'm a softie living up in Minnesota for the past 8 years. When I returned back to the slightly cooler temps of the Northland, I was greeted by several arrivals in th

HEY Kamakazy!!!

Your timing will be about perfect. B A, AND of course--- ALL FRIENDS, I am glad you have finally got some sort of answer out of NGC on those coins. It seems they are very busy these days but can't afford extra help. I hope your grades come back great and can't wait to see what your points will do. I am sending off my last payment on TPETERS Silver Eagle Proof set =15,000 points (WOW). Been busy cleaning house "my site page". I put up allot of 69 Coms., eagles, presidents and more. I have ma

Open Letter to NGC and Registry Members

Just what is really disliked ? a long post For those of you that may have looked at my custom set you know that my total collection contains well less than 200 items which includes ancient, medieval, world and U.S. coins as well as medals, tokens and jetons (so really not much of any specific collectable area). I have started selling off my collection to supplement my retirement. Anyway with well less than 200 items in my collection it must be considered small. However it does contain a cou

Just complete the National Parks Quarters 2010-Date, Proof set to date.

Wondering if they will be any made for the year 2012 and up. Just complete the National Parks Quarters 2010-Date, Proof set to date. Although I have 4 PF 69s I am hoping to find replacement for them. The way silver is going up it might take sometime. Money is an issue here after I purchased all 5 of the US Mint Collectors 2010 ATB 5 ounce silver. Next I am working on the US Presidential Dollar series, which might be moot if they stop making the series because of expense of making the coins and

Phase 1 Complete

The selling of my problem gold completes the first phase of reorganizing my collection. Greetings, three weeks ago I wrote of a major shift and reorganization in my collection. This shift in my collection started the day I bought a VG-10 1893-S Morgan Dollar. Since the 1893-S Morgan Dollar represents the most money I have ever paid for a coin, there was no way I could have purchased it without selling something. Oddly enough though, according to Numismedia my 2009 Ultra-High Relief St. Gaudens

A New IKE for My Proof Set

And other miscellaneous stuff. Yes indeed, my Proof Eisenhower Registry Set is now just one coin short of being complete. I just picked up a 1971S Silver PF69UC IKE for a very reasonable price. It?s amazing what a little bit of patience will do for you in this hobby. Typically, these go for about 50% more on EBay than I paid for this puppy. The only IKE I need to finish the set is that ever pesky 1973S Silver Proof Coin. I?ve seen these things (PF69UC) consistently go for well over $50 on EBa
