Kennedy Half Collection
I started the day needing 14 more coins to be complete. I had some credit card cash available, so I decided to see what I could get towards this collection.
I ended up winning two auctions on Ebay; a 1965 SMS 66 and a 1966 SMS 67. That will bring me down to 12 before having a complete set.
One of my collecting goals was to complete this set. It's going to come down to the wire, but I think I can make it. It will be nice to turn this into a "maintenance set" in t
The easy half is done now the fun begins!
I just added a 1945 Washington quarter to my 32-64 set, which is now 50% complete. It took me a couple of years to get this far but worth it i think.

I started with good intentions of sticking to certian coin series, but have found myself wondering all over the "map"
When I started to get serious with my coin collecting (no longer just setting spare change aside in coin wrappers), I started out with a typical series (Eisenhower Dollar coins)which I would place in an album. But now, while that set is not fully complete, I have found myself to have several albums for numerous coin sets (lincoln cents, 1964+ dimes, washington quarters, stateh
Proof 1873 3cent Silver NGC PF68?
I just submitted an 1873 Proof 3 cent silver coin to NGC. I have looked at all of their graded PF67 ones and have many opinions that this could be the very first PF68. So hopeful on this one. If we get it back at the PF68 would the registry set owners of proof 3 cent silvers be interested? I hope so...

Almost there
Hi, my first entry. I am collecting MS70 2011 Eagles. I think I have a complete set as it stands now with what I can find out in the market. The hardest one was the Eagle BRN/Gold label, and the ALS non-early release. I will get them listed and pictures added as soon as I figure out how to do this stuff. I am a computer newbie also. As I figure there are 12 different MS70 Silver Eagle holders in NGC right now. I also have nearly all the PCGS 2011's. Someone help me out on
Treasure from the SS Republic
Hi All, wanted to share a photo of my favorite coin, it is an 1842-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar from the SS Republic. It is slabbed by NGC with Shipwreck Effect.

my son was born in 2009

or if anyone has the entire collection of '09's they want to sell?
As i undrstand it, the silver eagles have a proof, uncirculated and a bullion coin. i know what a proof is, but whats the difference between the UNC and the bullion? I dont know the ASE
and other ramblings.
Since I posted my last journal entry, the days have flown by. Between work, home improvements and really doing some thinking on my collection.
First off, I have 2 more competitive sets to add. I decided my name here (Iowa Silver Baron Bammer) should be one of two components of my collection. However there will be some gold (for example my Carson City type set and a little foreign gold). The second major focus will be the west, as evidenced by my (soon to be updated) Wild

Hi everyone. Yep, got the dreaded this coin is currently owned by someone else blah blah blah blah blah. I just can't help but laugh because we all experience it and we all know how frustrating it is waiting for the coin/coins to be released to you. I will give NGC credit though for sending out an email to the so called owner or they will release it to you within a certain amount of days. I have had other
From The Goldberg Long Beach Auction
From The Goldberg Long Beach Auction I added this lovely toned 1840 MS62 No Drapery. Gobrecht's intricate Liberty Seated Design combined with the tiny 15.5 MM diameter and 1.35gram Weight makes this series well worth collecting. The earllier Bust designs will be of great challenge down the road.

oops...
I received my invoice in the mail today from the recent auction. The auction that I mention was the pre-Long Beach auction by Goldbergs and it was held over several days. I watched the auction on the day that the US half dollars were auctioned and as I wrote in a prior journal-I was thrilled to find myself the winner of 2 of my 4 internet bids ( even though I missed my lots live bidding).
Well the next day of the auction was paper money I believe and then the final day was world coin

Does this explain the Washington Dollars without edge engraving?
Here is an extract from an article I read today:
"A North Wildwood, N.J., man who worked as a police officer at the U.S. Mint today admitted stealing $2.4 million worth of error coins from the U.S. Mint and selling them to a coin distributor in California, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced."
the story goes on with more deatil but suffice it to say, this is a big WTF. He apparenly was a major reason those Washington Dol
is it bullion or collector coins
Ii recently wanted to purchase the 5oz ATB "coins" I went online and found them for 289. and about a week later the mint started selling the collector version. Well as I only wanted the mint releases and thought the problems with distrabution were resolved I called the firm I had ordered from A***x and my "coins" were still two weeks before shipment was due I called to cancel my order only to be told that I had purchased bullion futures and I was stuck with

Would you buy a coin that has this
Would you buy a coin that has been "thumbed"? My own opinion is I would not as it takes away from the beauty of the coin. For those that do not know what "thumbed" is, it (was/is) a way to I.D. a coin you possessed.
The only problem was the oil and acids on your thumb etched the coin permanently. I do not know if NCS can remove this or not but I believe for the most part that practice has for all intents and purposes disappeared.
I just happened
What gives?
I have started to focus my collection on obtaining a proof and mint set from each year. When I receive a set, I add the set and then individual coins from that set into my database. I was going thru the 65th Edition Red Book to see what the 'going prices' were and was somewhat confused on the pricing.
1966 Special Mint Set: $8.00
1966 Kennedy Half Dollar MS63: $7.00
1966 Washington Quarter MS63: $1.00
1966 Roosevelt Dime MS65: $1.25
1966 Jefferson Nickel MS63: $0.25

You can buy your modern MS/PFUC 70 coins from a dealer or with a roll of the dice buy them directly from the mint at a lower price and hope for a 70 grade on your submission.
I recently purchased one each of the P&W mint marked 2011 September 11 National Medal from the US Mint. The next day I sent both medals to NGC for certification and eventual incorporation into my ?Inspirational Ladies? custom set.
Since some of these medals are already certified, I found ?Modern Coin Mart? offering
It's on the front page of this weeks Numismatic News!
It is reported that the set will include a Reverse Proof!
Says it is supposed to be released end of October!
100,000 sets, 5 per household.
Not a silver eagle shown, but is an 1836 quarter eagle.

Beautiful 1828 horse
This post will be quick and short. The past week I have acquired a couple new coins to add to my horse-themed topical set. The one that I have been waiting for most to arrive in hand came today. It was everything I thought it would be, and I'm happy to add it to my set.
The coin is an 1828 16 Gute Groschen, a part of the German States issues for Hannover. It has exceptional luster, some reverse toning, and great eye appeal. I just love the detail in the mane and t
