My Personal Numismatic Page

What if I am out and about and happen to come across some coins for sale? I use Liberty Street's Coin Manage software to keep track of my coins when I am at home or with my laptop. But what if I am out and about and happen to come across some coins for sale? Well, I've created some space on my personal server to keep track of my coins so I have access 24/7 via any computer or my phone. http://www.jeremyabbott.com/numismatic To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Is a Foreign Coin Really Foreign?

When I was younger I really enjoyed traveling to other countries. Most of the pocket change from those travels went into a box upon my return. I've been neglecting my journal and my certified coins for the last few months. I do have a good excuse as the addition to this site of the world coins guide awakened a desire to catalog my foreign coins. Which brings up the question 'Is a foreign country really that foreign?' I've stayed at Hilton hotels and Holiday Inns. I've eaten at Burger King

A Fly on the Wall

Have you ever wanted to be a ?fly on the wall? and listen in on a conversation? I had just that exact experience last Friday at the ANA?s ?World?s Fair of Money?. Greetings all, I had a fabulous day at the ANA?s "World's Fair of Money? in Chicago. On my arrival at the convention, one of the items on my ?must see? list of things to do was to view ML Moser?s collection of pristine Morgan Dollars at NGC?s table. Walking towards the display, I noticed several people huddled around the display view

Could There Be a Different Standard

Between the Foreign Coin Graders and the U.S. Graders? Well, I picked up a package from NGC today that had 9 coins graded and one coin bodybagged. The bodybagged coin was my 1874-S Trade Dollar with chopmarks. As some of you may know, I have a custom set made up of chopmarked coins and the 1874-S was destined for that set. Since all my Foreign chopmarked coins have come back Details Graded, I was very surprised that my Trade Dollar came back with a statement that it was not deemed worthy of

Jefferson Nickel upgade.

Moving up in rank While at the ANA show in Rosemont yesterday, I hoped, but was unable to fill my two open slots in my early Proof Jefferson Nickel Collection. I was, however, able to upgrade my 1942-P Silver from a proof 65 to a proof 67. An attractive coin with just a little edge toning. The upgrade was good for a gain of 134 points, and a five position improvement in the ranking. How about a nice big bowl of Cheerios

US Mint and Cheerios Promotion for the 2000 Lincoln Memorial Millennium realease Hi everyone, I just recently purchased this 2000 NGC MS67RD Cheerios Promotion Lincoln Memorial to commemorate the Millennium. This promotion was put on by the US Mint and Cheerios and approximately 10 million of these pennies were placed in boxes of Cheerios cereal. To date NGC has graded only 66 in this grade with 1 graded higher. As always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting To see old comments for

My Collection of Hard Work and Lots of Money

A 10 yr collection, what should I do? Any ideas of what I should do? Hello everyone! I've collected for over 10 yrs. I totally enjoy the hobby of collecting. I have been a few times at the brink of selling off my whole collection. What is listed here in graded coins is not my total collection. If I sold I could possibly get all bills paid... and not be crazy with the collecting bug that won't die. I have complete coin sets in PF & MS of the yearly coin sets from 1999 to cur

State Quarters.....

Are finished! Whew. I finally broke down and bought the 1999 Silver set. I got them in today and just finished entering the serial numbers. It's so nice to not see any blanks when I look at the set. I'll take pictures over the next couple of days and be 100% finished. Next is to focus on my Lincoln Cent 1934 - 1958 set. Not counting the 1955 DDO, I am only 22 coins away from finishing that one. The Kennedy Proofs, I am around 20 coins away as well. Happy collecting to everyone! Mar

1916 D is completed!

SHe is on her way home I just got the update and e-mail saying that my 1916 D mercury dime is finished on its way home! She graded "AU Details." I truly was hoping just to have it come back genuine and possibly an XF details. I am very happy with the results! I have a fellow collector who keeps wanting to buy it....I told him that i really dont want to but i am always open to listening what he has to say. There is always a price! It has some damage but it is a high grade for that coin! NGC pr

What a Year!

A year ago Well it been a year today that I joined the collector society My main intenson was just to have a inventory list of my coins But I have learned so much, for example pick graded coins from the top 2 grading companies. Also I have made my share of mistakes for ex. if the price on a coin is to good it probable a good reason to be cautious.I have enjoyed reading the journals and dealing with other collector who has the same intrests. There has been a lot of journals about auction and fini

A Noticeable Improvement

In Coin Design The Citizens Coin Advisory Committee has recently provided their recommendations for the Silver Dollar and Gold Half Eagle to commemorate the War of 1812, more specifically the Francis Scott Key's Star Spangled Banner. Their recommendations seem to follow a much applauded improvement in overall coin designs from the National Park Quarter, to the Indian themed reverses of the Sacagawea Dollar, to the design of the 9/11 Commemorative Medal. Here are the recommended designs, w

Still haven't sent my coins in for grading

I don't know what the procrastination is all about. I'm just literally afraid I will do something wrong. We all like to know what we're getting into before we jump in the pool. We don't want to look stupid, after all. The only way to get experience is to just "do it!". The coins are most likely NOT counterfeit but you never know. A perfectly honest, but naive person like me could get one and sell it thinking it is real. Then, old naive me would buy it from them.... I had a little pr

The cornerstone

Patience is a virtue... Purchased from Catbert on 6/16/2011. He was kind enough to send it off for grading to NGC before then sending it along to me. It is one of the most stunning examples of a Conder Token I have ever seen. Exactly 2 months after I had verbal acceptance of my offer, I received it today (8/16/2011). I will say, patience was definitely a virtue in the case of this one. Many thanks to Catbert for his willingness to work with me, and ultimately for his being willing to part with

ANA COIN SHOW JITTERS...

And I'm Not Even Attending. As show time approaches, I notice a building of anticipation and excited tension. Somewhat like the pre-game jitters in high school football. Although, my only action was pre-game calesthenics, and some excellent "bench-riding", but I digress. I've not attended an ANA since 2003, in Baltimore, but none the less, I experience this great anticipation every year. So, it's not the auction. (I don't generally bid with the "Big Boys"!) It's not the multitude of d

Fall is Close at Hand Here and so are plans to Wrap up my Registry Additions for 2011

I have finished assembling raw coins for submission for this year ..... Fellow Collectors : Its tough sometimes to decide which coins to submit and which to hold back for next time . As we all know the entire process of slabbing coins is quite expensive . So I have managed to go thru and pick out some interesting coins to send in a few of which are worthy of mention : 1884-S Morgan clearly uncirculated but very darkly toned , 1953-S Franklin very high grade virtually FBL extremely dark grayish

another gem for the Morgans Greetings once more ya'll Today I was fortunate to add three spectacular coins to two of my collections. I added the PF70UC from 1985 and 1986 to my Kennedy's and added a MS65 1888 to my Morgan collection. It had been a while since I had upgraded the Kennedy Collection and I have been on the prowl for a really superb "gem" 1888 which I was lucky enough to spot on line and won. I have attached a photo of the Morgan. Moondoggy To see old comments for th

Was Sheldon really that wrong?

Or do some of us just have more money than common sense? - Another long one As we all know when Dr. Sheldon had his book Penny Whimsy published he was presenting the numismatic world a detailed catalogue of early large cent varieties (known at that time for the years 1793 to 1814) as well as an approach for pricing these cents. Under his concept every die variety/die combination would be assigned a value in its basal state (1) which was the lowest collectable state. Now more than likely his
