  1. Those look great my friend. He sure does a really good job. Hes got some real stunners to work with. You got some amazing coins in your collection.
  2. Im not seeing it. Looks like a regular cent. It dosent look like the ddo from variety vista to me.
  3. Just damaged after it left the mint. Theres all sorts of different things they come in contact with that turn them all sorts of colors.
  4. It sure is brother. I think the hunt makes it exciting. Looking at all the ones and then the perfect coin comes by you and a good deal on it.
  5. Great additions JP. You been getting some nice nickels. I cant wait to start on my dimes. Its finally starting to clear up where we can work more steady. Havent bought the first coin in a few months and its absolutely driving me crazy. Im gonna try to put a set of full torch silver roosies together. Im wanting to do a set of blast whites on them. Set of ms67 or higher if I can. I may just be getting my hopes up. But Im wanting to slow down on this set and save back a bit out of each check and pick the right coin.
  6. Very well said. There are some wonderful people on here and are very generous.
  7. MD is very common. When Im roll hunting quarters, I can look at 10 to 15 and 3 or 4 of them will have MD. Some quite dramatic. Looks neat sometimes but still worthless machine doubling. I finally ened up learning what a true ddo is. Out of the thousands of coins I looked through I only found 2 true ddo's. Found a barrel full of MD's. They are just to common to be of interest.
  8. I learned the hard way also. I made some buys on coins that were damaged, cleaned, etc. I wrote them down as expensive learning lessons. Finding this forum is the best thing I ever done. Ive learned a whole lot of these guys.
  9. Thats what im waiting on. Prob just try to work on a set of ungraded ones eventually. And if I dont get any I wont lose no sleep.
  10. I remember when I was a very young kid I would look thru dads coins all the time. He wasnt a collector or nothing. He had a cup that had a few wheaties and buffalos. Bout all culls but I thought they were really something when I was a very young age, around 6 or so. I loved those things. I think thats alot of the reason I collect now. Started with that cup of junk coins. They are still priceless to me now even in the rough shape. He eventually gave them to me and I still have them today.
  11. It sure looks good but I dont want to say for sure. It will help to also look at the feedback and see if it is a reputable seller. I always check out the sellers on everything I buy on there anymore.
  12. I would consider that a very cool collection. Not unfocused at all in my opinion. You were focused on what you like and thats all that matters. Those are all very cool coins with an interesting history and its very neat you have complete sets.
  13. The reason Im gonna leave mine to my children is because they enjoy collecting also. I never thought about it in a way if they didnt enjoy collecting. Thats why im planning on enjoying mine until its time to plant me under a big tree and then hopfully they will get all the enjoyment I do from them. They still enjoy looking through them now and ive already gave them a few. Got two boys.
  14. If it were me it would depend on how bad I needed the money. If i didnt need it I would preserve it for my children. Unless they get hooked on drugs or something when the time came to do it. Very sad to see something like that happen but it does. If i needed the money very badly I would try and sell them on Ebay. The only shops we have close to us to sell to is pawn shops and they want you to give them to them for nothing. Not saying all pawn shops are like that but our local ones are. I know they need to make a profit but my goodness. Thats why I would pick Ebay. You can get what you want for them. Unless they are priced way to high. These are just my opinions. Others may be way more knowledgable and have better advice on the situation.
  15. Looks like its been dipped in acid at one time to me also. Its got that look to it.
  16. Its definately had some type of grinding tool took to it. Wether a dremel tool or what, we will never know. You can see the abrasive lines on the reverse. Also the the diameter is still there. If it was broadstruck it would be flattened out some and the diameter a little larger.
  17. You can also compare your quarter to the graded one. See the side with the rim on it. See how it has all the little lines running side to side where the design was. Thats a sign someone has used some type of grinding tool on it. If you ever use a grinder you will notice how it makes the same abrasion marks on metal. Also you can see the coin has its same diameter and the rim is still on one side. Then notice the graded one has the rim beat down on both sides and the design is distorted a little from the coin slightly stretching. It dosent have its original diameter due to flattening out slightly. Someone has ground down the other coins. Dont know why people do those sort of things but if you do alot of roll hunting you will find all sorts of oddities due to human damage.
  18. What they are saying about being washing machine or dryer coins is when change gets left in the pockets of pants when people do their laundry. Sometimes the coins work their way down below the tumblers and get stuck. Then roll around as the tumbler rolls constantly wearing down the coin little by little. Ive found them in that condition breaking them down for scrap iron after they tear up. I broke a dryer down about a month ago that had over $5 worth of change in it where the owner didnt clean his pockets out good.
  19. I still think theyre hideous. Plum awful.
  20. That is some very interesting facts. Thanks for sharing that with us. Thats a really cool token also. Id say a few were probably used as flipping tokens back in the day.
  21. When I first started I had trouble posting pics. Always said my photos were large and other things. I ended up finding a photo editing app at Google Play Store where I could crop them up pretty good.
