  1. That clears up alot of questions I had bouncing around in my head.
  2. I sure dont but it seems he had an impressive collection. These scrapbooks are very interesting. Stacks advertizes selling off several impressive collections from different people. Ive always wondered how many of us own some of the coins now that has been advertized in these books.
  3. Ive been reading through some Numismatic Scrapbook Magazines and I saw something that caught my eye in a January 1944 issue. Does it look to you all that Stack's is advertizing to sell one? Heres the advertizment.
  4. I agree. Its a very nice coin!! Glad he shared it with us.
  5. Very nice!! Beautiful coin!! You done great. Nothing dumb about it in my opinion. I love the coin. Very lusterous and in wonderful shape. Anyone would love to have a beauty like that in their collection.
  6. Want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
  7. When I first started collecting I rushed and bought some problem coins I now regret. I since learned to have patience. Theres always a better one out there with a better price.
  8. Ive seen them posted on here before. People finding them and wondering what machine at the mint caused that error.
  9. How many collectors on here collect colonial day coins? I love those old coppers. Vermonts, Connecticuts, and several others. I like those old Fugio cents. Also like those really old shillings. Dont have to exactly be struck in the US. Coins our founding fathers would have packed in their pockets. I have a love for those old coins. If anyone has any theyd like to share I really love to see them if you want to post them. I enjoy the history of that time period more than any other. All I have is that one copper I shared a few post back.
  10. Seems like the mint had poor quality control in those days just by looking at their coins. The dimes were espically horrific. Ive seen several of the cents with mis aligned dies. Seems like the most crappy coins I see are from the 80s. Looks like they didnt even try to strike good coins in those days.
  11. Which sac mule was it that the big contraversary is over? I remember people saying a mint employee made them on purpose but PCGS slabbed a couple. Im not sure if thats exactly how it went but I remember seeing something like that.
  12. All the time. You wouldnt believe the crazies we have to deal with on a daily basis. It will keep you on your toes. Constantly have people bout run over us. Espically flagging.
  13. Yep. It would be fun to get the ones that are reasonable to get, but some are plain out impossible. For a guard rail installer anyways.
  14. You tube is great for mechanic work. Ive watched several videos for different projects. But it irks me to see some of the coin videos. I quit watching them period now. Mechanic work is the only reason I click on you tube now.
  15. Several of the US ones are super rarities also. Wont be able to collect them all. But can some.
  16. Thats what I was pretty much trying to say but didnt know how to say it. Who knows which ones are good or not. About 100 bad ones per one good one. Its pretty much useless trying to find that one good one. Thats what I hate about topics such as coins on there. Anyone who can upload a video can put it on there wether its true or not.
  17. Im thinking about it in the near future. Thats why I picked that one out. We started letting each other pick our own Christmas gifts.
  18. Like @EagleRJO mentioned some stuff on YouTube is excellent. Such as the ANA videos. There are other ones thats good to but most spew pure trash. Espically the get rich off pocket change videos. Those are the worst. For every good video there are 100 that spread the worst lies ever. Its hard to know the good from the bad there are so many you have to look through. Your better off reading books such as a Red Book. Its very informative. I recommend it as a guide for any new collector getting started. They are very inexpensive also.
  19. Talking bout one of these aint ya? This is the one I own. They aint that rare. You Tube is a horrible place for information. Theres good info on there but tons of misinformation. You can get on Ebay and buy one graded cheaper than you can get one graded. This one is high grade and made the full torch designation. Got it around $40. When you submit a coin not only do they charge a grading fee they charge for shipping and insurance. Not counting shipping and insurance sending it there. It cost me around $75 to $100 to have a coin sent in and graded. Grading is really just for high dollar coins and bulk submitters. The reason you see coins graded and at a good price is because most of them are sent in bulk by dealers at a discount. They send in 100 or so coins.
  20. I looked them up and watched a very cool video about die clashes on large cents. The guy done a great job. Very educational.
  21. First time Ive ever heard of it. Thanks for sharing. Id like to watch some of those.
  22. Back in the late 80s, early 90s we had a guy in our hometown that was Abe's twin. You couldnt tell them apart looking at a photograph of Abe placed beside him. Beard and all. He would help out in the community and play Abe in school plays and things like that. I tried to find an old picture of him but was unsuccessful in my search. Im sure someone in Olive Hill has a picture somewhere. It would blow your mind if you seen him. If I can ever locate a picture of him Ill share it on here. My sister and I were very young and we would go up and talk to him when we seen him out at stores and places. He would play right along. He was a great guy and loved it when the kids would come up and call him Abe. Sadly he died in the mid 90s. Im not sure exactly what of but I do know it was natural causes.
  23. I just looked at my old reciept and the old lady bought it for me for Christmas. She paid around $40 for it and its NGC certified at MS67 full torch. I cant send one in to have graded for that.
  24. Ive been looking into working on a set of Franklin proofs. I always check them out on GC each week and those 3 years always go for big money. Espically the 50.
