  1. Yea I guess your right. Im really in the leave it alone crowd. I was just saying if they did. But your right its actually pretty much identical. I didnt really think that through. I really think everyone is used to the system we got now. It works so why change it. It would be aggravating trying to build a registry set with 2 different grading systems out there. There would be alot of buying coins and switching them over to one or the other. That may be something they have in mind also. Charge a fee to take old coin grades and put them in new plastic under the new system.
  2. Im like you. If they did change it at all it would be better with a 100 point scale than a 10.
  3. I was wondering how they was gonna do the registry so I looked it up and found this.
  4. That one is in pretty good shape compared to most 1919 cents that come out of rolls. Nice find Mr Bill.
  5. Ive just been sitting and looking through the registry at all different types of sets. Theres so many out there I want to try really bad. In reality though I better finish the 3 I got started. The main ones is the quarters and halves. But I think its healthy to have at least one or maybe 2 small sets also that only require 5 coins or so. That makes it easier to complete and also gives you a break from the others every once in a while. I want to state thats just my opinion. Others may find something that works better for them or may not want to work on anything else. Thats just the approach Im using and my logic behind it. Theres so many beautifully designed coins out there. All the very talented engravers. Its hard to collect them all unless you do a type set or something. Which is something Id be interested in doing. I got a type set started but I havent really worked on it. I just bought coins I liked and added them to it as I got them. But as I looked through the registry I visited some of my friends sets on here. I go admire them every once in a while. They got some stunning coins. And I looked at some sets of random different denominations. Theres so many different ones I love to start but in reality I cant do them all. Its like going to an ice cream shop and trying to figure out what flavor you want when you love them all.
  6. So sorry to hear about your nephew. That breaks my heart to see anything happen to a kid. Ive bout worried myself gray headed scared for my kids. Its something that is constantly on my mind. Its very tragic. Its got me all teary eyed reading these post. I wish theyd hurry and find a cure.
  7. Very sorry to here this. Thats always been my worse fear. I dont know if I could bear it. Im very heartbroken reading this. If theres anything you ever need give me a holler. Ill keep sending prayers your way.
  8. Very impressive coins. I love the way you put those together. That would make a nice print to blow up and hang on the wall. Or a floor mat or something. Those would look good arranged in a case like that and hung on the wall
  9. Im with Goldfinger. It needs to at least be mentioned. How to battle counterfeiting.
  10. I discuss and talk about my collection on here a whole lot. I feel safe talking bout it here. But very few people around home know Ive got it. I got several neighbors who would break into my house in a heartbeat to fund their meth habit. They all know we both work and they brave enough to try it if they knew what I had. I dont think anyone on this forum would come from way off to get my small collection but some of my neighbors could walk down and get them we live so close. They robbed bout everyone around.Stole a brand new four wheeler off me back in 2001. Still owed $5,000 on it. Had to pay it off and never got it back.
  11. Ive actually found a couple of the so called spitting eagle clashes also on quarters. The ones by the eagles beak. I forgot about those. But the one in the picture above is the best one I found. Its really neat.
  12. I enjoy the major clashes. I currently only have one and I found it in change on a 1966 quarter. It was a very interesting clash. I would be tempted to buy coins with major clashes but it seems all the very cool ones are being sold at very high premiums. Heres the one I found. I thought it was a neat find so I put it in a coin flip just to keep back in the collection.
  13. Id say with that app out the listings on Ebay and Etsy will really start getting crazy. I bout fell over laughing when it told me that 1909 Lincoln cent was worth $109,000. Its really not funny though. Wonder how many people out there will not know better. And how many will take its word and buy something like that. Ive only been in the hobby for a couple years and I can already see where its heading. I can only imagine how the good ole glory days of collecting was. Would love to have started back then. Before social media took a major toll on everything. And all the endless sources making it easier to spread misinformation. Im sure bad info was being spread back then also. But it has to be alot worse now with You Tube, internet, and now coin grading and pricing apps. I can only imagine whats waiting on down the road.
  14. I almost started a set of the early swiss 1/2 francs. I still may. Not sure how hard of a set it is. I ended up going with German 1/2 marks instead. Those 2 caught my eye when I was looking for a foreign set to work on. Ive only got 1 half mark so far so its not to late to switch to francs. The half marks are gonna be a challenge for all MS coins. Theres several of them. Havent look to see how many half francs are in a set.
  15. That was my thoughts soon as I seen it.
  16. Was we the first country to use .999 silver in our coins? I read something on this a while back but I cant remember.
  17. Ive seen it all. I was on Facebook looking at deer pictures and saw a new coin grading app. This thing is kindling on the fire. Its called Coin Snap. You take pictures of your coin and its supposed to grade your coin and tell you the value. This will be very bad for new collectors. I went to google play just to check it out. I know better than to use anything like that. I was just investigating to see what kind of garbage was going to get newbies thinking their common coin is worth thousands. I installed it just to check its accuracy. First I checked a heavily circulated 1922 peace dollar that would probably grade as fine. It told me it was xf and worth $65. Then I checked a 1909 cent. It told me it was xf and worth $109,299 Then I checked a Henning nickel. Told me it was a regular Jefferson nickel worth $1 at very fine. So it didnt spot that it was a counterfeit. So not only is there YouTube, Etsy, and other things on the internet. Now theres this. On Facebook it had several comments from people bragging on it. Just spreading the news if no one has saw it yet. Its the first time Ive seen it. Ive seen other coin apps that were helpful in helping identify coins but tthis is the first Ive seen that grades and gives a value. This cant be to good.
  18. Pretty neat. First time Ive seen on of these. What year is that?
  19. Love those funnel webs. This is the exact coin I was talking about.
  20. Make it as long as you want my friend. Add anything you want. I enjoy reading everyones stories. Awsome collection you got. Reading yours brought up a question Ive been aiming to ask for a while now. What kind of a price difference is there between buying off Ebay and going to shows and buying? I know the show lets you see in hand what your buying and probably more of a selection. But can you get better deals alot of times at shows? I cant wait till I get to go check out my first show. I want to save up some money so I can bring back a couple coins. Id love to just go and check everything out but it will drive me crazy if I cant bring home some souviners.
  21. Im very happy so many people has contributed to it. Hopefully we can keep it going. I cant take all the credit for it though. Our good friend @zadok pitched the idea to me and gave me the honor of starting it. It has turned out very educational to me so far. Got 2 of my coins attributed that I never dreamed I ever would. Hopefully others can learn from it as well.
  22. They seem to be elusive in my neck of the woods. Ive went through thousands of cents and Im still yet to find one. I never knew which years so I checked all of the Lincoln Memorials from 92 and up. That chart will help me know which ones to focus on.
