No question old holders sell for a premium. I am currently enjoying the benefits of some of that. I think the point I was trying to make is that aside from a small number of "Slab collectors", who buy the plastic and not the coin, most people pay a premium assuming the coin is under graded. I contend it is a low percentage that are. That is more than likely skewed by many of the ones that would upgrade have done so by now.

... ive seen so many auction/collections they all seem to run together, its often diff to keep them straight...i had a private viewing of the eliasberg collection n no rush in looking at the coins, to be honest i remember the disappointing coins more than the amazing coins, he was more of a hole filler than a highest graded collector, the best portions of his collection were the sections where he bought other collections en bloc n added to his collection, i bought a few coins from his collection but they r not the brightest stars in my collection...the garrett n norweb collections were more impressive in quality, specifically the garrett collection where quality was paramount...the few norweb coins i possess r more my favorites than my eliasberg coins...but as u say its still a part of my sharing numismatic history....part of what makes the hobby interesting....

I agree with Woods, it's weird looking but still just damage. For future reference please post pics of the entire coin, obv and rev, in addition to the close ups. Giving out the date is helpful too.

Looks like PMD. Appears it took a hit and the metal on the bottom of the lobe was displaced.

Farouk auction followed closely by Eliasberg auctions. I would truly have liked to have just been able to view Eliasberg’s collection intact.

A new beauty I bought today for the shop. I have to image it properly once it is in. In person it's a rainbow.

SO SAD, to announce this: after many years of coin collecting.... I am posting this with a heavy heart. I love coin collecting and everything that comes with it... but I am officially done in #2022! This is taking up too much of my time. I’m struggling to keep up with the everyday chores of cooking, cleaning and maintaining the home, so something must give. I have decided to get rid of all my gear and supplies. Below is a list of what's available. Serious inquiries only, and please don't insult me with low offers. Thanks for reading and understanding... 1. Vacuum cleaner 2. Dustpan and broom 3. Mop and bucket 4. Pots and pans 5. Toilet bowl brush and cleaner 6. Laundry detergent 7. Iron 8. Work clothes 9. Lunch bag 10. Winter jacket and boots Any serious offer will be considered. Every little bit helps for more time to coin hunt.

Do you have any idea how expensive they are? And the penalty for canceling the contract is truly criminal. On top of that the last one I had subbed out the work to a cleaning lady anyway. I’ve about figured out it’s cheaper, and a heck of a lot less headache, to just burn the house down when it gets too dirty and build a new one versus getting help on match or e harmony 😂

I metaphorically “stole” a 1951 set in the original packaging, back in September at auction. I got it for a little over $200.

Welcome to my current hell 😂
Thats my problem. Some things I’ll list for sale, but it will be at a price someone has to talk me out of it. If it sits there I am perfectly ok with that.

The 51 Franklin proof is going for more than I realized. I’m going to start making home made 51 proof sets if anyone is interested 😂. The idea that this crappy set of run of the mill proofs is going for that, plus 12% premium when it hammers, baffles me. But coin prices in general baffle me right now.

This put together proof set of normal proofs, some might even be altered or it may be the case, has 9 bids and run up to $409. What in the heck am I missing? Is there something special here I don’t know about? The description literally just says “1951 proof set uncertified in capital case”. I don’t even see a cameo in the bunch.

Ebay sold prices are running $400 - $550, give or take.
These look a bit hazy, but the price isn't really out of line - yet.
