Looks like a few German 2 or 3 marks not sure which are sitting at top of the bag they are pretty circulated I don’t know who would waste time counterfeiting a worn German mark

@BBrown75 like I said I wasn’t singling you out you made a Great post .. apparently on daily basic this same type of doubling is talked on daily basic here new collectors posting on here instead of reading old post on this subject such as yours is a good explanation and example worth reading, the post a picture of what they believe is doubling we give a response it’s not answer they want to hear we never see or hear from them again  … instead a lot of them come on here wants an easy answer take no mind to even learn what the hobby is really about …

I may have sounded blunt or little conservative about the subject I won’t apologize for that and I’m not the only member on here that talk like that … I mean no offense to anyone when I say “OUR” Hobby that’s “ALL” of us me, you , everyone on this forums From beginners , Novice to advance collectors … it’s is indeed Our hobby we love to do 

@J P M whatever makes someone happy I have no problems with that … I been just wondering what all hype is about double die stuff when mostly it’s just die deterioration which is pretty common … I mean books and articles been written on error coins , seems like folks are quick to take on here post pictures expect the answers (sometimes little disappointed or mad they don’t have what they assumed they had) … In my days there was some tough love when I had a question about a coin series or so on ! I used get answer like READ the BOOKS and learn !!! Rightfully so they were right gotta do your homework before asking for easy answers all time… I was at coin show years ago the table next to the table I was looking at some Buffalo nickels I over heard a dealer talking to collector or another dealer I’m not sure he had a lot error coins on his table he said something like “if you can’t see it with naked eye or under a 5x loupe” it ain’t worth anything ! I assume he was talking about error coin of some sort 

on another note your 82’ Lincoln cent is a hard call if it’s a planchet error or if that post mint damage … when I look at observe at word liberty it looks like it was struck sharply in place at one time like a normal Lincoln cent should look like in that area now it’s kinda rolled over into the split area leads me to believe it was post mint damage also reverse of the coin the split looks a little curled up during striking under pressure you’d think the pressure would of flatten it somewhat even with the surface of the coin? … but again I’m no expert at this error stuff like a TPG that looks at thousands and thousands of coins more than I ever look at in my lifetime 

@BBrown75 I’m not picking you out so don’t take it wrong …you been collecting casually … But I often wonder what sparks a newer collectors trying to get into our coin collecting hobby why they automatically start off trying to spot error coins I been noticing it a lot lately on here? Error coins are more for someone who been in hobby for long time advance collector who researches and reads up a lot books on error error coins they basically devote a lot of their time collecting error coins. 

Now a days with modern technology and better machinery at the mint the errors are very very minor not even worth mentioning… I don’t know if new collectors are getting wrong message from some YouTube videos made by a guy who has no knowledge about our numismatic collecting hobby making up a bunch wacky misinformation and claims that error coins are pulling in a lot money and so on I’ve heard these rumors I don’t watch YouTube about coin collecting …

I myself rarely dabbled into error coins I never found them that fascinated but I’ve read up on it enough to know what it’s somewhat about … Our hobby not about getting rich off error coins I think the wrong message is being spread to newer collectors our hobby is more of passion sometimes turns into a obsession it’s about collecting and preserving and gaining knowledge and for some of us we spend far far far more money acquiring coins for our collection than we gain back

I was beginning to think the late Oxy-clean commercial guy Billy Mays was here asking questions about the same coin in 8 different post. Apparently they are of all different coins in each post

collecting German coins get interesting there’s many paths to go down … There’s a Krause catalog devoted entirely for German coins thick as an old telephone book for Germans coins dating back to 1600-present day… a lot good information for anyone interested in German coinage and history … European coins and other world coins are starting to gain some popularity among collectors now a days

@abigaileicher8 they can be valuable depends on conditions of the coin and authenticity earlier years and key dates , semi key dates , few varieties in the wheat vent series …. But best you can do is take some pictures of

I agree too much light as well as photo shooting through magnifier ? Ignore magnifier get light to cast on side of the coin  if it’s too bright cover the the light with clear White paper … you want the coin somewhat “natural” as of you was standing few feet away from a window on decent a day holding coin in your hand looking at it try keep that picture in mind how color of coin looks and luster as well …

iPhones can take somewhat decent enough pictures of a coin if you lay coin below and stack some books or small box about a good 4” above the coin rest iPhone on the books/box or whatever you’re using to hold phone steady set it on 3sec burst mode … then crop the picture bigger

Taking good decent pictures of rainbow toned coins and proof coins are little more tricker but with practice you’ll get better at it after a while you’ll get the hang just how to get lighting decent or NO lighting at all if you let natural light shine through a near by window few feet away if you angle right works good enough or even better than artificial light

@Coinbuf no I don’t count cash , but however my CNC lathe is right next to the candy/pop machine . I see everyone who approaches it everyday at work 

again I have a lot younger guys working here I rarely see younger people carrying money they use their iPhones to pay for everything … My “everyday routine” glory days with candy machine gotten best of me I’m watching my health as I age now a days… But back in the days Little Debbie was my favorite girl! and I cannot lie about it 

times sure are changing , got to a Walmart sit down on bench by the check out you’ll notice more and more people pay with credit/debit card than you’ll see someone paying in cash … I can’t remember last time I saw a person pay with check at food checkout …. However to this day I still pay all my bills by personal check ! I don’t trust that online debit transactions for my bills … one time my wife paid electric bill through our online banking … some how they tripled the amount of bill took me a whole week I went to bank and explained to stop the payment now ! They said they couldn’t it MUST go through the. I would have take up with billing company to refund me the money they took from my account … what a shame I have no control over my “own” money at the bank all because the billing company screwed up and tripled the amount when we did NOT authorize it ! … in the end they did refund me back though … since that day on my wife and I only write checks to pay the bills the Ol’fashion way !!!

also around my town and area I’ve notice a lot of the bank branches shutting down over the years and going under one roof … everything pretty much being done online now a days , if I want to go inside a bank to talk to teller get a personal loan for a car ? There usually only 1-2 tellers inside the bank anymore … I have drive all way to other side of town ! Just to go into my bank branch when in last 30 years I’ve had (4 bank branches) within 2 miles of my house either way ! Not no more …

I used read into collectible paper currency when I was bored , but I never dabbled around into buying it maybe someday I’ll pull trigger on it and start collecting some paper currency just to have a small collection. I’m more into coins tho

@Henri Charriere Actually I believe I saw once $100,000 that had President Woodrow Wilson on it … I highly doubted it circulated much maybe among banks and higher up folks who had that kind of money

Not in my neck of the woods I don’t see it that way , even at my work place all Vending machines are equipped with Credit/debit card 95% of employees use their debit or credit card to make snack or pop purchase.. We were supposed to make that move back when Canada gotten rid of their cent … somehow we hung on to our beloved Lincoln cent … it had a good run for a lot years the longest running US coin ! Time to lay it to rest I won’t miss it … as for nickels? They don’t usually circulate as much anymore same could be said for Dimes … now a days everyone uses credit cards and debit cards to make purchases 

How much you want spend ? First figure that out … how serious do you want to collect Morgans (keep in mind they are very popular coin to collect plentiful and over hyped on prices) 

finding Morgans with a clean cheek very minimal contact marks is the key to collecting higher graded BU Morgan 65 or higher up to 67 and, MS 68 (high roller grade for deep pocket collectors)… As for PL and DMPL stick with anything above PL/DMPL in grades 64 and higher … usually 63 and under has a lot distraction marks although still collectible if that all your budget allows, keep in mind you can always upgrade your coin by trading in your lower graded/value coin or selling it off privately then buying higher graded coin to replace it

@World Colonial I do buy coins that are on my bucket list when they pop up … I wouldn’t miss a chance at coin I really wanted , but last year was slow year for me finding the coins in grade I wanted for my collection … you and I have few things in common we buy older catalogs and books,  I use them for a reference.. 

right now I’m waiting on the First catalog Kurt Jaeger had printed in 1975 old but in good condition for its age make a nice addition to my numismatic library hopefully it comes soon in the mail

@MIke_Mike well in that case welcome back to the coin collecting hobby…I’m sure now a days the coin collecting hobby looks a lot more different than it did back in 70’s .. today there’s a lot more knowledge in hobby now books been written on world coins today makes it more easier for us to collect stuff, catalog and give it market value… back in 70’s 80’s even 90’s early 2000’s dealers were not really hyped or interested in world coins they would throw large 10-20lbs of mixed world coins in Bargain bins they could be bought cheap … fast forward today internet and auctions and so on some old world coins have increased values … Although there’s still a lot world coins that aren’t worth much at all but still fun to collect for their designs or so on. 

if you want to get a little more serious about collecting world coins that are worth more money or build a collection for your kids to have when you pass on someday, stick around here and take a look in world coins section read some forums on here you’ll learn a lot stuff some of us invest a lot of our time reading books and socializing on here about world coins we learn something new everyday. Same could be said about US coins as well on here

My grandmother made it all time . I actually hated it ! It was food that would sit there at a party nobody wanted it only one of my uncles would eat it he actually liked it . Just about every party someone’s aunt or mother always made pierogi with sauerkraut and sauté onions , Islay’s BBQ chipped ham sandwiches were popular too , Philly cheese sandwiches are trademarks of Pennsylvania
