I would also like to add: KUDOS to NGC for such lightning fast turn around time! Holy cow! I hear the other guys have 3 to 4 month wait times. 1 week turn around is just darned great service!

Congratulations, Walter! That is great news! And a Saint is always a welcome addition to any collection!

...which is why I no longer buy silver bullion, and have switched to gold. Silver is nice, but it weighs too much if you plan on investing 10's of thousands of dollars. Plus, it's very difficult to sell that much silver unless it's to a local shop. So, yeah, the aluminum foil trick only works on individual coins, or a few coins. I just received a $5 gold Indian that was shipped this way. -

When I buy gold or silver coins these days, I always ask the seller to wrap the slab in aluminum foil when they ship. This creates a faraday cage, and masks the gold or silver from metal detectors. All they will detect is aluminum. It's sad that we have to resort to such things, but here we are. Sorry your coin disappeared. -

Who Will Be the Next Q. David Bowers in Numismatics?
DSessom replied to Tyrock's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
I can't think of anyone in the hobby that could come close to Q. David Bowers presently. Those are some exceedingly big shoes to fill. -
Do you have a direction in the hobby?
DSessom replied to ldhair's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
For about 15 years, I have been mainly collecting V nickels and Shield nickels, and buying other things of interest along the way such as US type coins, graded modern proofs, and US currency. Lately, I have shifted to US gold coinage, mainly because I see the direction gold is going and I'm afraid that gold will be far out of reach in future for me. -
$1 trillion platinum coin, anyone?
DSessom replied to DSessom's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
Just for fun, I calculated how much platinum it would take to equal a trillion USD in bullion value. That coin would have to weigh 64,330,746 pounds - or 32,166 TONS to actually be worth 1 trillion USD! To put that into perspective, imagine 9,727 Hummer H2's. That is the equivalent weight that a trillion dollar coin would have to be. LOL -
DSessom started following $1 trillion platinum coin, anyone?

A $1 trillion platinum coin could save the US from economic catastrophe in less than a month. It would be fast, legal, and no bigger than a regular coin. https://www.yahoo.com/news/1-trillion-platinum-coin-could-100000669.html

Agreed, except for the proofs and reverse proofs. They look spectacular in a TGP holder. Just my $0.02.

$2.50 gold coin from 1928 - Any info
DSessom replied to Red84's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
All great info above, but if were me, I would contact a reputable dealer and have it submitted for grading, just to insure that it is indeed genuine. My dad had two of these, about a decade ago and I talked him into sending them to get graded. Both came back counterfeit. I personally have a hard time telling the difference between genuine and counterfeit when it comes to gold, and some of the $2.50 and $5 Indian gold counterfeits are VERY good copies.
