Just quick cell phone pics.  Bought this for the Hallmark holder more than the coin, but I do like the coin as well.

I would love to watch someone who gets my home rolled coins.    As I bank at a credit union they require all change to be rolled, so I routinely deposit around $200 - $300 each month, but those rolls are guaranteed to be a waste of time for anyone that roll searches.

Bought this at the same time as my newest US coin addition.  Like that this coin is largely bought for the now defunct Blanchard holder.  But I also really like this design and almost pulled the trigger on a similar silver coin last year.   My patience was rewarded with this gold coin.

This little gal arrived just before the bell rang and this year's registry closed for judging.   I was very happy to add this coin as it brought my New Orleans Type set to 50% complete which is a major milestone for that set for me.    The remaining coins will be very tough to acquire as most are incredibly expensive, and several are difficult to find attractive examples of.   These photos are from the dealer that I bought this coin from.

For a strike to be "off center" there must be some portion of the blank planchet showing and it must have the same portion of missing strike on both sides.   Anything that is seen on only one side would be a slightly MAD (misaligned die) or perhaps a tilted hub.   While both of these are technically errors, they fall more into the realm of poor quality control and are so common that they have no value to knowledgeable collectors.

Type collectors usually focus on obtaining one coin of each type in the best possible condition and, accordingly, usually choose a common date that is more available in high grades. Date and mint collectors seek to complete sets of one or more chosen types that include rare issues that may be virtually (or actually) unobtainable in the highest grades. It usually makes sense, therefore, that type sets in the registry are scored exclusively for the grade of the coin and relative rarity of the entire type, while for date and mint sets the score for each issue is based on a combination of the rarity of that issue and the grade of the coin. Otherwise, true type collectors with beautiful high-grade pieces wouldn't be able to compete in the registry with date and mint collectors (like me) who could assemble "type sets" out of key date issues in much lower grades.
NGC might consider an exception for certain specialized type sets, such as the "New Orleans Type Set, 1838-1909, One Per Denomination" in which both @Coinbuf and I participate. Most type coins that were struck in New Orleans are much harder to find than coins of the same type from other mints, the one notable exception being the Morgan dollar.  Some types were only made in New Orleans for a single year's issue and are rare. One such coin is the 1839-O half dollar, of which I have an uncertified example with full Very Fine details that would almost certainly be details graded as "cleaned".  (The 1838-O is an extreme rarity that is "noncompetitive" in date and mint sets.)  Scored as a type coin, the coin would only be worth 273 points, while in a Capped Bust date set it would be worth 654 points and might be worth submitting.

Doesn't look like VAM 4 in hand, likely just a function of the poor lighting and cell phone pics.

In order to be considered "off center", the coin would have to show an area of unstruck (blank) planchet on both sides.  If it appears "slightly off center" on only one side, the cause would be a misaligned die, which is generally regarded as a quality control issue rather than a mint error and not considered worth a premium by knowledgeable collectors or attributable by grading services.

Are you sure the mark is on the coin and not on the capsule?  And if on the coin why not simply return it for an exchange?

Just a very well circulated and worn coin, I've seen many early teen wheat cents that look like this over the years.

The coin has been subjected to high heat.  That caused the clad layer to separate and expand like a balloon.   As it cooled the clad layer bubble fell back and this is the result.

Is that a Vam-4, the Double Star on one of the stars to the left of the Date...or Does it have to have the Doubling in the Date, inside the "6" as well? Maybe Not but enjoyed looking super close up at your Coin, very cool...P.S. The Hallmark Holder reminds me of when I collected them, then sold them all at a fair price regardless really of the coin in them. Show in N.C. years ago is where I saw a large display of them. Not saying this coin is a VAM but some Day in Near future the last remaining odd Coin Holders will go, nice variety of holders over the years. I should work on Posting some Crazy stuff as far as Holders, in the Early Days I have one Israel coin graded in an Earliest one holder....Peace

Translation:  I have no clue what I am talking about, but I am going to go ahead and post some random stuff anyway before I go hide under a rock after people realize that.
And I never knew that a "double die" (as opposed to the usual "doubled die") is called a "dice".  You learn something new every day.
