  1. Being that I am primarily an ancients guy, I can only think of two blast white silver pieces I have to share right now. Here's my Sobek round for my Egyptian Gods 2 ounce silver set. He's one of the two. I've posted him before, but these pics are my own rather than the seller's:
  2. Large silver is very nice. I've been pursuing the Sunshine Mint's 2 ounce ultra high relief silver Egyptian Gods series myself right now and I'm loving it. Lots of fun and amazing designs (I should take a pic of the Sobek one for this thread...he's about the only blast white numismatic item I own!. Him and the Khnum one as well), I'm having a blast with them!! Peace Dollars are lovely and they're a great set to pursue.....and like you said, much more affordable than a full set of Morgans or Walkers!!! And there's nothing wrong with having to make allowances grade-wise with the '34-S. That's one TOUGH coin in high grades!! To me, there's nothing wrong with a nice VF-XF for that spot whatsoever.
  3. No problem, Raygun. You're quite welcome. Good luck!
  4. Very nice, Mark. My fiancée would be very into that coin
  5. Based on the photos of slabbed examples on the tab that led to that page, they say MS. So, I'd say they're MS.
  6. Hi Raygun! This page should help you with all for your questions on the 2021 dollars: https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading/morgan-and-peace-dollar/
  7. Very nice.....I'm a sucker for any coin with a good bird depiction on it.
  8. Indeed. And sometimes their decisions make no sense. A few years ago, they considered Canadian Proof Like Sets from 1968-1975 as Proof Like Sets, just like their 1953-1967 predecessors. Now, NGC considers those sets as "Uncirculated Sets" for some reason and because of their arbitrary dividing line and change in terminology, they will no longer designate the 1968-1975 coins as Cameo pieces, no matter how much contrast they have!!! And those sets are the hardest to get with Cameo!!! It makes no sense......if they don't change their ways here, I'm going to have to start sending my Canadian to PCGS.
  9. Very nice, Keith. It's always great to see that 40%ers still show up in the wild from time to time. Thanks for sharing that!!
  10. From what I see, there may be some faint die deterioration doubling on your coin, but that's it. There is nothing indicating a doubled die on your coin.
  11. That's no problem...we were all new once. You're in a good place to learn about this hobby. Keep asking questions and accepting the responses of the members here in the way you have been, you'll be doing just fine.
  12. Boy, it sounds like he really can pick them!! And that makes sense.....I remember hearing about the Back Page thing on the news a while back. Like I said....this kind of stuff always finds a way. My criminal justice acquaintances certainly taught me that!!
  13. I don't doubt that this is true, actually. The lengths that people will go to in order to conduct illegal activities for monetary gain are astounding!! And as someone who has known their share of criminal justice students during their time as a student, I know that criminals often develop their own lingo and codes. While the village I live in is quite nice, the town a couple towns over from it (and closer to a major metropolis known for some sketchy folks) is sleazy as all hell. All kinds of sketchy motels from the '50s and '60s that are now run down and attract some shady types. You're always hearing about prostitution busts over there on the news. It's crazy!!! And they've caught clergy members, teachers, local and state politicians, prominent business people.....all sorts of walks of life you wouldn't necessarily expect in these stings. The crazy thing to me is that they've had so many stings and people still go there to procure the services of prostitutes! Not to mention all of the other consequences of this activity as well......*sigh*. I don't understand why people do things they do a lot of the time.
  14. What you are describing is outright impossible. There is no way that ever happened. One coin was struck in Denver, the other was struck in Winnipeg. Since what you're describing is impossible, logic dictates that your coin is simply damaged.
  15. Really?! That's insane!!! I would never have thought of that but, then again, I'm not in the market for the services of prostitutes. I try to learn something new every day, and I'd say this counts as my new fact of the day
  16. Good deal, JP!! Those are great prices. I've spent more on exonumia pieces lately than that, and yours are actual coins. Very well done!
  17. No problem. I just wanted to explain to you why you were unlikely to receive an answer to your inquiry. It was nothing personal against you, that's for sure. But, yeah, fakers watch this place like hawks on the prowl. The good thing is that most of us who have been here a while are onto them.
  18. That's a weird one. I've seen that tracking result on packages that the USPS has tried to deliver to my house on days after we've had blizzards if they try to deliver before we can get out there and dig out the mailbox. But I cannot imagine why that would apply to a P.O. Box. I'm wondering if the USPS screwed something up with the scan in their system. I've seen that happen before.
  19. Here's the thing......most of us are not going to get into the details of why yours is a fake on here though I have no doubt of what the others said. The reason for this is that counterfeiters watch these boards and they use what they read to make better fakes. We do not want to help them do this. What I would recommend is continuing to look at photos of genuine examples that have been certified by NGC and PCGS and see if you can discern how yours differs from the genuine article. Another course of action would be trying to locate a dealer who is knowledgeable in this area and taking the coin to them. They could tell you the problems with it in the privacy of their shop and not create a source for counterfeiters to make better fakes while doing so.
  20. I really haven't thrown common coins to the wind so much as I've thrown U.S. and more modern World coins to the wind. I haven't collected U.S. coins in more than a decade. Faustina the Younger's coins are some of the most common Roman coins there are and I wouldn't call the Egyptian Gods 2 oz rounds rare, either (with a couple of exceptions) I basically go with what I find interesting or what speaks to me and that's what I pursue, whether it's common or not. But I likely did a very poor job explaining myself in my earlier reply......it's very difficult to apply a collecting goal like a full set of Morgans to collecting ancients because it's a whole different type of collecting and a very different headspace. It's like looking at a bird and a turtle. Both are reptiles and belong to the same family of animals, but they're extremely different in their physiologies and ways of life.
  21. What an excellent find, Karen!!! Congrats!!!
  22. No worries about the reply, Sharann!! I've screwed many things up on here myself and you should have seen me trying to learn Microsoft Teams this weekend.....what a disaster!! Thankfully, my fiancée is working on her PhD in Computer Science and she got me on the right track!! It's nice to meet you as well and I look forward to chatting further. What do you like to collect? ~Tom
  23. Thank you so much for the kind words on Sekhmet, Quintus!! She's a fierce one.....I can't wait until she shows up. Hmmm.....NGC will grade these rounds.....maybe it's time for me to get back on the Registry thing just to share them and some fun Ancient Egypt facts
