  1. And hope to whatever you may believe in that SlickCoins or Ratzie33 (if they're actually different people) isn't the one to find them.....
  2. I love it, man!! I just love it (the ornery cuss part, of course. Not the rest of it. That part's sad and horrible)!! And I've been known to get a little ornery myself, esteemed sir
  3. Wow.....that's horrible that you had cancer twice but amazing that you've beaten it twice. You gotta be tough if you did that!!! And you're right.....none of us does get out of here alive at that.
  4. That makes sense, Kurt. Given what Roger said, it definitely sounds like that was the situation with the 1913 Liberty Nickels and, especially, the 1894-S Barber Dimes. It's not surprising that they would have some proof like character without being full proofs....I mean, look at Morgan Dollars from roughly the same time span......many P/L coins in that series for sure. And that would likely be true of many of the 19th and early 20th Century series if they survived in the huge numbers in mint state that Morgans did due to sitting around as backing for silver certificates.
  5. I didn't know the man, but it's always sad when a community loses a member. And cancer really sucks. It takes too many good people. I lost both my mom and stepmom to it last year. My deepest condolences to Mr. Pope's family and friends.
  6. No prob, Kurt.....glad we can move on from that other thread and go forward talking about and enjoying the coins!! That's all I've ever wanted on here in all honesty
  7. Now that's interesting, Roger. So what would you say? Would you consider them regular circulation strikes or some kind of specimen issue? You make very good points that they really aren't proofs, especially in the case of the 1894-S dimes. If San Fran didn't have the correct press to make a true proof, then the 1894-S dimes cannot be proofs. I agree with your stances on both coins, but I'd love to know what kind of strikes you consider them to be.
  8. Not quite, Kurt. I have to respectfully submit two other times that I can think of that this happened with the quarter. 1916 had the Barber and the Standing Liberty and 1917 had the Type 1 and Type 2 Standing Liberty. But, of course, that 1916 Two-fer would be a pricey one.
  9. Thanks Hog!!! But I'm not quite done yet.....Antiqued Cleo was the last rare one. I still have four rounds to go: Cleo in BU, Anubis in BU, Osiris in BU and Sekhmet in BU. And then Ra is coming out in the two finishes at the end of this year or beginning of next. But I'm getting there and I sort of have a complete set......I have all of the different designs now, just not all of the different finishes.
  10. Don't be too hard on it, Hog......it's a nice Philly Washington from the 1950's. Most of them look terrible, even in MS. Die fatigue starts to become extremely common on Philly coins right around the time your quarter was struck. I've sold a few of the Type B reverses in my resale venture and handled plenty of silver Washingtons during my time at the brick and mortar shop, and none of the 1956's I recall looked nearly as nice as your coin does. It's one of those dates that's really common ugly but extremely difficult pretty in MS.
  11. I don't know where to put this but since the Elemetal Mint made it and they were based in the U.S. when they existed, I'll post her here. I just worked out the deal for my antique finish Cleo round!!! That was the last rare one I needed for the set! Here's the sellers pic, but I'll be photographing her myself when she arrives:
  12. Me too!!! If someone would like to put an antique finish Cleopatra silver round from Provident Metals' Egyptian Gods series in my mailbox, I'd be very happy with that person!! But in all seriousness....Hog's quarter is really nice, isn't it? Especially since it's a Philly coin.......the quality control people at Philly in the 1950's seem to have been asleep at the switch much of the time. Denver coins from that time period seem to be much nicer than most Philly coins, in my experience.
  13. I didn't take what you said in any bad way at all, GBrad. It's a fact....there are plenty of bad sellers on eBay. There are more of them all the time and it makes things tough on guys like me. I just wanted to show my appreciation to Alex for what he said from the context of a good guy on eBay who wants to be fair to his buyers, who wants to have repeat buyers and who wants to sell you good coins.....almost any expensive ones are NGC certified, too.
  14. Alex, as a reputable eBay seller, I thank you greatly for this, my friend. It's much appreciated. We're not all bad. Some of us, like me, just want to sell you a good coin at a fair price so I can go out myself and buy a good coin at a fair price with the proceeds.
  15. Now that sounds like a lot more fun to me, Hog, than one 4 million dollar Liberty Nickel!!! I'd definitely get myself some more Roman Egypt coins for sure. And I'd be looking for this trial strike for a gold 4 oz Cleopatra Egyptian Gods round. Apparently, Provident Metals was going to have a run of these minted to demand but the project was scrapped.......probably not too many folks in the market for a 4 oz gold round. They apparently made at least one trial strike, though, according to Worthpoint. If I had "I just sold a 1913 Liberty Nickel money", I'd be trying to find out if this trial strike still existed and if whoever had it was looking to part with it. I guess I just went against my own stance on mega rarities in a very weird way
  16. I'm with Mike and l.cutler.....definitely just environmental damage. Your coin was probably buried and then found by someone with a metal detector who dug it up, saw it was just a 1995-P dime and therefore nothing special and spent it.
  17. I'm with Mike....that is a beauty!! Very nice Merc, LemE.
  18. And I thank you for saying that and sharing that Ronnie and for understanding their stance on free speech and the freedom to peacefully protest. I know that's a sticky issue, especially at this moment in history, so I thank you for saying that from the bottom of my heart.
  19. That's probably a good plan, Mark. I think the price will continue to drop as well, especially since it's become known that there are going to be proofs next year and who knows what kind of silliness after that. The Mint should have left the 2021's alone and left them as stand alone products. But, of course, they didn't and here we are.
  20. I like the holder, too James!!! It makes me wish that the U.S. Mint had managed to make all three of the different finishes for the Jefferson Nickels last year. Those would have looked sharp in a multi-holder, I bet. I myself was actually hoping to acquire one of the BU 2020-W Nickels, but they sadly did not happen
  21. And once again, my friend, I'm hoping we can put this to bed and talk about some coins!! I'm going to actively work to stop taking the bait myself, Mark, though it can be hard. I made a couple new additions to my ignore list and that's definitely helping and resulting in an improved NGC Boards experience!! In better numismatic news, I may have a lead on an antique finish Cleopatra round for my Egyptian Gods 2 Oz. silver round collection. I'm definitely adding her to the set, as you recommended, Mark! As this round only had a mintage of 500 in this finish and is the rarest one I still need, I'm hoping this works out!!! Gotta be careful though.....regular rounds have been antiqued privately, so I have to make sure this one has the serial number and everything. Wish me luck!! So, does anyone else have any new purchases or leads on that special piece of numismatic material that they've been seeking?
  22. If you want to get U.S. Mint products, yep, definitely need to know those release dates and you need to be ready to strike like a hawk when they go on sale if it's a high demand item with a limited mintage. As for older coins, there are many different outlets for those, depending on what you want to collect. There are many respected dealers with an online presence now, so you can find coins for almost any collecting interest if you look hard enough. This comes in very handy if you want to collect things that are a little more eclectic or if you don't have a brick and mortar shop near you.
