25 2012 FIRST RELEASE ASE JUST BACK FROM GRADING

SHOULD WE CHANGE THE FIRST RELEASES OR EARLY RELEASE to FIRST BOUGHT OR HOW ABOUT EARLY DELIVERY FELLOW COLLECTORS: Just wanted to say a few words on NGCs quality not the grading that was pretty good the holders were a different story. About half of the new First release coins came in a new NGC holder THE NEW RATTLER or more realistic THE NEW THUNKERS They must have ran these thru when QC was out to lunch. I would not be suprised if some of the holders fell apart they were so poorly sealed

Collection Insurance

Thank you. I appreciate the feedback from so many of you. It seems that the two most suggested routes are through the ANA. They seem to have an agent with AXA that offers policies to ANA members. The other suggested route is through my homeowners policy. I had looked into that with my insurance company, but it seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I think I will look into the ANA option. Thank you again for the suggestions. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here.

Some new additions

Rosies are getting better!!! Good Evening All, Just wanted to share a few new additions with everybody. During the past week while at Mayo Clinic getting chemo for my Leukemia and getting lung surgery scheduled, feeling really down, I managed to get a few new coins to help keep my spirits up. I lucked into a 1982P MS66FT. This is the only 1 in MS66FT and there is only 1 in 67FT. Not a bad catch! The only 2 FT for this year. I also got a 1991P MS67FT. Another hard one in this grade. I

Hang in there Ed!

You have plenty of time! Love the ATB quarters! I have my clads at NGC for grading now... regardless of the outcome, I will get a full PF70 and MS70 set for 2012... I have until December to get them, and so do you. I got my 4 certificates in the mail, too and it made my day. Funny how a simple act of recognition goes a long way My ATB quarter set is/was also number one, and will be again before the year is out... the prices are already dropping, and should be around $100 come Fall. You don't

Just receive my 2012 Silver America The Beautiful National Park 25c Proof 70's

Bragging Rights? The US Mint did a nice job on stamping out these proofs. I love this years design better than 2011 except for the Gettysburg National Military Park. I might start getting some of the 5oz if my wallet can afford it. $204 is such a better price than the price I paid for the 2010 series. On another note. Since starting my collecting and joining NGC in 2009 to keep track of my coins in the year of 2011, I ranked #1 for three coin competitive sets and received a (3) BEST CATEGOR

Stack's Auction

Upgrades, upgrades.....how many can I afford? Some of you mat have seen and/or participated in the recent Stack's auction. They sold one of the most extensive collections of high-grade Walking Liberty half dollars ever - hundreds of lots, multiple SETS of MS-66 and MS-67 graded short sets (1941 - 47), dozens of single MS-67 coins. I bid on several lots, expecting to be outbid on most or all of them (as typically happens on ebay or Heritage). Sure enough, the "You've been outbid!" e-mails s

RE Early Release

Misleading Qualification Early Release Labels do not adhere to guidelines as to defining coins that were released early. The sole determining factor in evaluating a coins' release date is the date on the shipping order included in every package sent out by the Fullfillment Center. NGC does NOT use the date the package was sent to you as the determining factor in issuing labels. An example that I have used in the past regarding this subject was my shipment of two(2) four coin sets of 2007 Proof

Something You Rarely See Over Here

Inspired to share my Bulgarian coins Inspired by JAA's excellent and inforamtive series on his Phillipine coins, I wanted to share my growing interest in Bulgarian coins. My wife being Bulgarian, we often have occassion to travel there. I did some reasearch on their coinage, and learned a few things that interested me. First, the Bulgarian National Bank is also responsible for minting coins. You can go to the bank in Sofia, and they have a specific teller who handles proof sets and the c

Nobody wants them...

A funny moment at the local Whataburger I was in a really bad mood the other weekend and I really just didn't feel like cooking so I went out to a Whataburger that'ss a mile or so from my apartment. After I ordered I was just sitting there waiting, mostly ignoring everything around me when something one of the girls working the registers said caught my attention. I have no idea why this just happened to pierce the fog of my own thoughts floating around my head but it did. She said, "instead

A COMPLETED TRIFECTA

Achieving Interim Goals Is Fun! I always had a bit of completeness compulsion. It shows up in my focus on finishing any sets started. Some sets are too expensive, so type sets and mint sets are a satisfying alternative. Some large sets take a while. With these, I sometimes set interim goals to satiate my desire for completeness. In the past, prior to my desire to collect the entire Liberty Nickel series, my goal was to collect an uncirculated set of what I called my Trifecta: the 1885,

1937 M Five Centavos with Lamination - The Other Side of the Coin

The reverse of this specimen has some very unusual strike characteristics. Check out this interesting error coin which I just added to my Registry Sets. http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetListing.aspx?PeopleSetID=51257 As you can see from the attached picture the reverse has sharply struck center details, but has a great lack of rim sharpness. The Castle with Crown, and Half Lion/Half Dolphin in the central devise is the sharpest I have ever seen on a pre-war Common

Check out this interesting error coin which I just added to my Registry Sets. http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetListing.aspx?PeopleSetID=51257 This specimen has some very unusual strike characteristics. The obverse has a lose of detail on the right side of the volcano, and the left side of the pedestal, which is typical of 1937-1941 USA/Philippine Five Centavos. There is also a Lamination (Mint Error) on the rim at 3 oclock. The reverse has sharply struck center de

Early Releases - Aren't They All The Same?

2011 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set Coins are ALL Early Releases If every 2011 25th Anniversary ASE set was sold by the U.S. Mint in less than one day how can any of the coins in these sets not be Early Releases? Assuming the box was sent to NGC unopened then all the coins are the same. The cut off date is just a silly way to force folks to send in their coins quickly and pay for labels that add no value or points. Of course the U.S. Mint will make you no promise as to when each co

Early Releases... or are they?

Is NGC's integrity for Early Releases cut-off dates above reproach? If your answer was yes, please continue reading. Here's the big question of the day, and I wanted to pose it for the group:   For those collectors who submit coins for Early Releases, or for that matter, even the new First Releases designations, or those who might collect coins with Early Releases labels, are you under the impression that NGC is "pretty solid" on their published deadline dates for a particular coin issue?

It's been awhile

Since I've posted an entry Good morning, everyone. It's been awhile since I've been on here. A lot has been happening in the hobby, to say the least. The PCGS coins being deleted from the sets has probably been the biggest story as of late. I've been working on Commemorative half dollars. I like being able to get a different design with each order within the same set. It is also a nice reminder of what has happened in the country in the moderate time I have been alive. I was born in 19

GEM Proof Beauty in the mail to NGC for Grading and High Resolution (300 DPI) Imaging

I'am really excited about my newest acquisition so I decided to submit it to NGC under their World Express grading tier. The trend over the past year for Modern Commemorative Silver Dollars have sold 23% over NGC Coin Price Guide value. So where do they get their data. What to do with PCGS PR and MS 70 coins

Question Hello Everyone, I have a question for members or for NGC. If I have world coins that are graded by PCGS in PR or MS 70, can I cross those over? I know in that past NGC would not allow 70 coins to crossover, but the change in registry sets are the crossover allowed? If anyone knows or has submitted any coins for cross over since the recent change, please let me know. Thanks To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

NO CHAT BOARDS???

Hmmm things keep disappearing around here I logged into the chats this weekend to read up on different threads started this month. I don't know what went wrong but it sure didn't get repaired before the weekend started. Good luck trying to have a conversation in the chats. Probably messed up when they deleted all those PCGS world coins. Ha Ha
