WHERE DID THEY GO?

I still have them A lot of my Canadian and New Zealand sets are missing from the Registry. Some are #1 sets too. Where are they? Is anyone else experiencing this? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Catching up

What a difference 2 months can make... It has been quite some time since I have written a journal. Indeed, it is a whole new year. At the time of my last journal I was finishing up the last few details of the coin descriptions in my horse themed set. Thanksgiving was just behind us, and Christmas was just around the corner. The hu-bub on the boards was still centered around the US Mint 25th Anniversary ASE fiasco, and the cut-off date for the NGC Registry Awards was closing in. Now, a sh

Coins or Notes its all Numismatics

If you have not been reading the Collectors Society Notes Journals you are missing some very interesting and informative presentations. As you can tell by my Collectors Society Screen name (JAA USA/Philippines Collection) my primary numismatic interest is the Philippines under United States sovereignty. In addition to USA/Philippine coins I also collect Philippine notes, especially the historically important Philippine Emergency and Guerrilla Currency of World War ll. I am fascinated by th

A timely follow up to entry on Obscured Set and security

Home security and the security of our collections is a serious issue In reading about a good reason to obscure sets, security, I came to think that talking about security for ourselves and our collections is a topic that is worthy of periodic exploration. One topic: INSURANCE. Whether it is theft or disaster (fire, hurricane a la Katrina style), having adequate insurance for your collection is important. I know another member who recently posted a question about insurance for coin collect

Moondoggys has the right stuff

Learning to post messages on various message boards can be a challenge Seems that every message board has different rules to follow. I have discovered, in my short adventure as a coin collector, using NGC Journal board is no differnt. I want to thank Moondoggy for his trial and error research and for passing the info onto other posters. Semper Fi! Jack

Testing out Moondoggys Theory

Keep your quote fingers crossed unquote Folks, Here is a picture of my 1923 Peace Dollar, same source for both, an illustrious member of our Forum and Board. The 1923 is a little baggier than the 1924 although they both graded MS65 later, Malcolm To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Have finally figured out the problem

this is a temporary workaround till NGC finds a permanent solution I have finally figured out why when we post a journal and we want to have it discuss on chat board it does not give us the option on a majority of journals but it seems to work on a few. When you check Use Message boards login and you enter your info to have your journal be able to be discussed on chat board it will work IF in the TITLE, OR the TEASER, OR in the BODY you DO NOT have ANY APOSTROPHE WORDS at all. There's a Sucker Born Every Minute

This sites' got EBAY beat for SUCKERS This is my first journal so bear with me. A friend told me about a site called Propertyroom.com and they sold coins and bullion,so what the heck I checked it out and even registered. Well I found a few proof sets (silver) that where low so I watched them. They sold for HUNDREDS of dollars, the so call sealed sets from the mint boasting maybe a cameo Franklin worth thousands or a valuable Kennedy Half. The site went public on TV and Radio last week or so I

Neville Chamberlain PEACE IN OUR TIME

Although Neville was discussing an entirely different matter. Folks, Just received very nice 1923 and 1924 NGC MS65 Peace dollars in the mail. They have both been added to my fledgling Peace dollar set which is now a whopping 20 percent complete. I once owned a complete Peace set in a Whitman album but that was sold years ago to fund my ill fated comic book ventures. The set was average circulated (VG to XF) and was purchased intact from well known Pittsburgh area dealer Harold Weitz.

Don't Drive Yourself Nuts!!

You can't use E Bay as an accurate barometer for the FMV of a coin.. After 10 years of using EBay as both buyer and seller, there are a few tidbits of insight that have registered with me on how to utilize the forum to my benefit. First, most Ebayers who use it to buy coins are not anything but monkey-see-monkey do collectors with no understanding. they just know that the particular coin is getting stupid money, so it must be worth owning. The smart sellers capitalizing on this mob mentalit

Digging Deep!

... or even the FHA couldn't cramp my style (too much!) Coin Journal for the week of 02/06/2012 through 02/12/2013Another week of bargain hunting... and it really had to be bargains for me! My son is purchasing his first home (a nice condo in a great part of town), and a problem arose when FHA said the condo did not qualify for their program (of course, only after weeks of paperwork and outlays for inspection, etc.) We had to scramble to help him, when the down payment went from 5% to 20% (as t

Does this drive you nuts

I see this all the time When an auction starts (particularly on E-Bay) and it runs oh say 7 days. Also say it starts out at $.99 and there are always someone who thinks they are going to actually get a $200.00 coin for under $10.00 so they bid it up to $10.00 Then John Q comes along and he bids it up to $100.00 on the first day, now comes the people who run up the price of the coin till it is beyond FMV. They bid it up to $200.00 on day 2. So day 5 comes along and someone who has maybe 25

NGC Grading Results

The grading results are back for the 1903 Proof Peso that I submitted to NGC. NGC gave the coin a grade of PF64. In my opinion this coin is a solid PF65 and possibly PF66 so I may resubmit it at a later date, particularly if I can do so during a Meet the Grader Session at one of the ANA shows. in the past I have had some luck with having undergraded proofs upgraded and this beauty certainly deserves another review. While the PF 64 rating is disappointing it is still a beautiful coin and far

A Clear Path

Ahead for the Beaw's Den. Folks, As most of you have probably experienced, everytime I see a coin or collection I admire (Like JAA's Philippines coins or any of Brandon's Horses) I have an immediate compulsion to start the same collection or obtain the same coin they have. Heck, I even set up a special Ebay search for the 2007 Falklands Crown after seeing Gary's example a day or two ago. This is my chronic condition I call Collectivitus Nex. Well, I have given it some thought and I have

Addendum to my Coin of the Month

Britannia and the Falkland Islands Nations that commemorate events of national significance through their coins are oftentimes able inspire their citizenry. For instance, the United States through the imagery of its bicentennial coinage reminds us of our nations greatness (dollar), its permanence and values(half dollar), and its struggle for freedom and liberty (quarter). The two-dollar bill (a favorite of mine) inspired us with a portrait of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (I s

NGC World Express Grading Tier

I reported in an earlier Journal that I had submitted a coin to NGC under thier World Express Grading Tier. As I stated in my previous Journal entry I am quite eager to have this coin graded and imaged so that I can add it to my Registry Sets. http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/SetListing.aspx?PeopleSetID=51257 I have been monitoring this submission since I put it in the mail and am very impressed with the speed that it is being processed by NGC. RE: MVCoins --- Early Releases - Aren't They All The Same?

Well, the coins really are the same, but that wasn't what I was asking, so a point of clarification. MVCoins raised an issue in response to the question I posed to the group, asking are the coins in the holders with the Early Releases label from NGC not the same as coins which aren't in those holders. For grading, value in NGC Registry price guides, and for points - the answer is yes, they are certainly the same. Whether or not a collector places greater value on coins with the label is a

Coin Insurance

Any Suggestions I'm looking to insure my collection. So far, I have not been able to get a lot of information from the large insurance companies. All I've been able to find quotes for are from insurance companies that I've never heard of. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to who you have your coins insured with? Thank you for the help.   Marcus
